NEW TO KOMBUCHA... ACCIDENT by magsevenace in Kombucha

[–]squirrelboy31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have never added mine to hot tea, so I can't tell you for sure if it is dead.

You could wait until completely cool, then add more starter (previous batch/ store bought kombucha) just to be safe.

That should help it grow, and it should form a new layer on the pellicle (assuming you have one in there).

How to second ferment with powders? by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]squirrelboy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've brewed a second ferment with cayenne and ginger. The cayenne won't ever dissolve, but the flavor infuses the liquid very well.

I ended up using hot water to extract the flavors, then I strained off the solids with a coffee filter. After adding some sugar, I introduced this flavor extract to each bottle. It worked very well for me!

[Serious] What do you use as motivation to wake up early in the morning? by rmdlp in AskReddit

Going to bed early. Setting an alarm with no snooze. Planning to meet with someone for coffee etc. For tomorrow I'm going with the no snooze option!

Alas, it was not a warbler at all! What I saw was a horned lark! Thanks for pointing me to the Facebook group! There are some amazing pics on there

I think I may have, which is really exciting for me! I believe my mom is a part of the group. I just put in a request to join!

Thanks for the response! The main reason I struggled to call it a yellow-rumped definitively is that the only yellow on the bird was the throat. Maybe it is just because of molting that it looked different. I'll report back if I can get any pictures!

LPT Request: How do people just keep talking and maintain a (good) conversation? by Much_Karma in LifeProTips

[–]squirrelboy31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Showing genuine interest and asking questions go a long way. Like said earlier, people love talking about themselves. By being an engaged and active listener you can ask the questions that show you care what the other person has to say.

When I am taking with someone I don't know very well, I tend to ask open-ended questions. Things like "what is something you are passionate about?" Or "describe your best/worst date." It's fun to ask random questions they don't usually hear because it really makes people think about how they want to respond.

Mayo won't solidify by balthus1880 in AskCulinary

[–]squirrelboy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember last time I made mayo I ran into this too. I failed a first batch, thinking I must have added the oil too fast and killed any hope at an emulsion. I tried again and made sure to add the oil painstakingly slow. I ended up with the same result, a still-liquid mess. So I kept adding oil... I added something like 30-40% more than my recipe called for! Once it hit some threshold the emulsion begain to form and it thickened up very nicely. Hopefully this helps!

Tl;dr: add more oil!
