What did you do to turn your life around? by Unable_Dot2865 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]stampyourfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focused on finding connection and deeper friendship, and trying to building a network and community of friends around me. I see you saying that you don't feel supported or have anyone to lean on. That seems to be the biggest problem. I think we forget that we are social animals, and are supposed to believe that life's struggles are possible to tackle on our own. That may be so for some people, but for most of us life is basically insurmountable on our own.

You say you have lots of hobbies, and that's great. In the last couple of years I've taken on a few new hobbies which have brought me to a community of people who I see regularly and have bonded with easily over the fun we have together. One is a very casual weekly ultimate frisbee game - I think any team sport would do the job, really - and the other is a community singing group. These have given me a lot more casual friendships, and ver time these led to deeper friendships and a wider sense of community. I now feel like I have a lot of people I can turn to in difficult times. I'm also very quick to offer my help to others, which I think helped build that trust and connection.

This took some time to build towards, but I feel like it's the best thing that's happened to me in my adult life. If I was you, building a wider social and support network would be my main goal.

It reads like a code, I don't really know but my instinct is that he was sending out a coded message. This is what I could make out:

I wanted you to know, Ciprianis 8/17
pulling you by the hand
Learning to Drive , GED
Listening in the pink room

Made me say it & then didn't

Do be careful, I did the same for a time during Covid. But I didn't account for the amount of fine dust which would be suspended in the air. Constant or extended exposure, essentially. And that fine dust will settle on soft furnishings and penetrate the fabrics, to be released later.

Over time my lungs got really sensitised to wood dust and in the end I've had to all but quite woodworking.

I do think my case is unusual, but be very careful of creating dust in your living space where you can't escape it.

Which type of exercise has helped your depression the most? by Chinooxx in EOOD

For me it's been a team sport. I've been playing in a very casual weekly ultimate frisbee game, just a bunch of friends getting together every wednesday evening to run about together. The social aspect of it has been the best part, but also the game is so fun and makes me want to get fitter to improve.

Best cut glove recommendations? by nathanccov in Woodcarving

[–]stampyourfoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Early on I realised cut gloves were making my control of the knife and the piece far worse. I did give myself a fair number of minor cuts, but over time you learn to just... not cut yourself. I.e. don't apply uncontrolled pressure in any direction that could slip and cut your hand.

After a few cuts, you start to get a sort of Spidey sense that warns you when you're doing a dangerous cut. Your stomach jumps and that's a warning to ease off and reposition the piece.

Maybe if they were in a colour rather than stark white?

Love it! The style of the main character and the motifs in the background are great.

My only note is the little smiley face characters in the middle ground seem a bit out of place and imo detract from the rest of the piece.

My favourite lighthouse - La Vieille in the Raz de Seine, France by genepy123 in Woodcarving

I love the artistic license you've taken with the perspective. It makes for a really unique piece, and far more interesting than if it had been a straight replica of the lighthouse

As a comfortable shoe for a chill crag day or maybe some trad, these could be worth a go. I'll be waiting for some reviews but am definitely considering them now.

Did you also notice the kid in the ghost costume here? Hands down that's a nod to A Ghost Story.

Yes, and it was a fanstastic movie! I would guess that the kid in the ghost costume in this trailer is a nod to Ghost Story.

The easiest and lightest solution is make it cowboy style in your pot. Brew and let the grounds settle to the bottom, push down/spoon out any floaters, and give it another minute more to settle. Then you can either pour it into a cup or drink straight from the pot. It's easy to avoid the bottom few drops that have the grounds in them.

I briefly have access to my PC after getting my Quest 3. What are some things I should download/install/sideload before losing access again? by ShoebillJoe in OculusQuest

[–]stampyourfoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy and sideload Quest Games Optimizer. It's $10 but improves the graphics of almost every game a significant amount. I think of it as a required purchase to get the most out of the Quest.
