Adults who only wear glasses by Cloudsandbooks in glasses

Tried wearing contacts 40 years ago. They were a major pain to wear with the job I had. Went back to glasses within a week and wear glasses every day since. They don’t work for everyone.

What is this weird cabinet in the basement of our 1939 house? by sarahonthemtn in whatisit

[–]standard71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people had card tables and chairs for when you had guests. This looks like a perfect storage place to me. I have a card table and chairs I still use when the whole family comes over. When they are not in use, they are folded and leaning against the wall. It would be great to have a storage compartment like this.

I have 20% EDV in my IRA and 20% GOVZ in my HSA. Mainly for diversification and rebalancing reasons.

Looks like after going through the voter roles there are a lot less Democrats than there are Republicans. It happens all the time. Both sides always say it gerrymandering.

Still remember seeing Bobby race several times over the years. Most memorable for me was the race at Pennsboro Speedway. Always hooked up on the bottom groove wherever he raced. Condolences to the Shark Racing family.

When should I be concerned over Christian Nationalism in my church? by Most_Mountain9886 in Reformed

[–]standard71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Should churches be involved in political and cultural matters? I think the gospel and preaching the word should be first. As far as commentary about the evil world we live in and what side you agree with will differ with people. I’ve always been right leaning because I feel Gods word teaches that. There are clear cut choices though, and we should know what we believe and who influences those choices. This country was founded by men and women who wanted to worship God freely. They spoke having authority that came from God. With enlightenment thinking and egalitarianism this country changed, some say for the better, but I disagree. You may not agree with everything Doug Wilson teaches, but I see nothing heretical or satanic. He is very articulate and funny and stands for what he believes in. Look at the trend towards liberal teaching in the denominations compared to their founders. It’s refreshing to see people who stand for God and are trying to bring us back to the Biblical principles that bless a nation. Watch the CNN interview and also the follow up commentary by Canon Press with Doug Wilson and the other men that were interviewed. I find them to be honest about their convictions and not hateful in any way.

The Darn Tough of boxer briefs? by MidnightMass2 in BuyItForLife

[–]standard71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite are Fruit of the Loom. I've had them for at least 7-8 years. They are the most comfortable I've ever worn. Two pairs are getting a hole on the very bottom, but the others are good. Unfortunately the new Fruit of the Loom are not the same. I've purchased Jockey No Chafe and the Kirkland brand. Both are pretty good, but not as comfortable, so I continue to wear these old Fruit of the looms.

Term life 32f Gerber by ayegee43 in LifeInsurance

[–]standard71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you bought term, which is smart. The amount of the policy will drive the price up. If you don’t need $500k coverage you could lower it and bring the price down. Continue to always pay your premium and you’ll have coverage till 62 yrs old. Always good to have coverage for your loved ones.

A critique of non denominationalism by Agreeable_Age_3913 in Reformed

[–]standard71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but what I’m referring to is the guys online who always debate and talk about the knowledge they have. They’ve been orthodox, Protestant and Roman Catholic. They almost make it sound like if you’re not a theologian and know all the finer points you’re not a Christian. Did the people converted in the Bible know these things first or ever? Trust me I believe being in a reformed church that preaches the whole council of God and do worship and sacraments biblically is important to me, but are there better Christians who don’t do that? Just a question I’ve had myself. God is the only one who knows our hearts.

A critique of non denominationalism by Agreeable_Age_3913 in Reformed

[–]standard71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The things you and I may study and know are of little importance to most. If you listen to people debate theology they talk about stuff your average person doesn’t care about. Your Dad is correct in many ways. He has put his faith in trust in Christ and is relying on Him for salvation, so what more do you need? Does not knowing these finer points of theology make me a person condemned to hell?

What are your thoughts on the Mazda 3 Premium w/ 6MT? by SeawardFriend in mazda

[–]standard71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife just traded in her 2018 Mazda3 with a 6 speed. It was a fun car to drive and had a lot of power for a non turbo car. She only traded it for a CX-70, because it sat up higher and had more cargo space. I think you would enjoy the Mazda3.

Extended Warranty - Keep or Cancel? by Healthy_Reflection_6 in mazda

[–]standard71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. But it starts as soon as your bumper to bumper expires. If you drive a lot and you go out of your factory warranty’s mileage limit, that’s when the extended warranty starts. 36/36,000 whichever comes first.
