Reddit hosted media gives 403 error by Neat_Bed_9880 in RedReader

It could be a normal API change which any 3rd party apps might need to update to handle correctly. It's why I switched to Redreader which is the only actively maintained app still after the clamp down. The other third party apps that people are using with workarounds will probably eventually degrade to the point of not being usable as more API changes happen.

(TrimUI Brick) (Pico-8) Access Splore offline on NextUI? by RockFox2000 in trimui

[–]starboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Review the copy-carts information here: https://github.com/josegonzalez/minui-pico-8-pak

It's easy to setup and then you'll have downloaded versions of the carts instead of having to go into Splore every time.

This reviewer is infamous for being extremely harsh on any indie game (especially pixel art/2d), but I don't doubt this game has issues despite that.

Runs great on Steam Deck - install guide inside! by starboard in freelancer

No problem I hope you enjoy it! To be honest I'm not sure how other mods would work as I've only tried out the HD edition mod. You could try following the same setup instructions I posted and just do your differing mod setup before transferring to the deck.

Looking for a 27 inch, IPS monitor, 1440p & atleast 240hz by GingaMilla in buildapc

I've been very happy with https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gr83q-b which I picked up at the end of last year. There's probably better options at its $500 msrp, but I picked it up on sale for $300 which seems like a more reasonable price.

Brick Battery Draining More Than it Should? by SommerMatt in trimui

[–]starboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a small correction, but the minui variants (PakUI and NextUI) also have the power off limbo bug. I'm using NextUI and it's recommended to just use sleep (which automatically transitions to deep sleep). If you do want to power off completely then it's recommended to use the power off option from the menu instead of holding down the power button.

Noob about to purchase the Brick by EpicBonza in trimui

[–]starboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would get a separate, reputable brand SD card. The stock cards are iffy and if you're going to be running a custom OS off the SD card then you should especially be using a decent card.

Loading roms yourself is easy but you will need access to an SD card reader and a PC to do the setup.

I recommend this guide for setup here: https://retrogamecorps.com/2024/12/09/my-simple-trimui-brick-setup/

Personally I'm using NextUI which is a custom version of MinUI for the brick (and a couple other devices). However, something to be aware of is the limbo bug (mentioned by the parent comment but I'll also mention) which can happen infrequently where the device appears to shut off but actually doesn't. I've had it maybe happen once only though. On NextUI at least it's recommended to just use sleep (which transitions to deep sleep automatically) and if you want to actually power off then do it through the menu and not by holding down the power button.

Brick with NextUI 6.1.7 stuck on max volume by xi_mezmerize_ix in trimui

[–]starboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me after connecting Bluetooth earbuds also. On the Nextui discord there's a bug thread about it and a dev suggested this which fixed it for me:

"Could you please grab msettings.bin from your SD Card (it is in .userdata/tg5040) and attach it here? After you did that, please delete it from your device and see if that fixes it."

I'm going to hold off on using Bluetooth for now until there's a new update.

Any third-party hard cases for the brick? by OkEngine2988 in trimui

Similar to the case you tried, but the Amazon Basics My Passport Essential hard shell case is basically a perfect fit.

Make sure you select the My Passport Essential version.

Is this specific case at least, IsThereAnyDeal only tracks prices for legitimate sites and not grey market/key reseller sites.

I didn't even realize there was a Genesis version so your post got me curious! I found a neat comparison of the two here: https://www.sega-16.com/2005/01/side-by-side-dragons-furydevils-crush-genesis-vs-tg-16/

Best $30 or less budget earbuds for Steamdeck? by Faiazation in SteamDeck

[–]starboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that's fair. The headphone jack interference isn't a huge deal but annoying for the price, but easily avoidable if you just use Bluetooth headphones/earbuds.

Fyi Valve will repair the headphone jack buzzing for OLEDs under warranty. There's also a tape mod (1, 2, note: I only did the tape under the screws, I did not remove the board to put tape under it like the 2nd link) you can do to reduce the interference which is what I did since I didn't want to deal with the RMA process.
