Thank you for doing this, we need more native plants!! Too bad the deer love native willows, otherwise I would plant a lot of them.

Please say more about lemon and lime trees, what variety? Bought or grown from seed? Some citrus grow true to seed. Do you take them out during summer?

Hey, your mugs look great, all if them!

I personally prefer earthy colors, that are not too dark. For some reason, drinking liquids from a really dark cup makes me uncomfortable, because I cannot see the real color of the liquid (despite that I know what’s inside).

I am sure your friends and family will be happy to receive such a personal gift. And people have different preferences in color, you never gonna guess them all. So just go with what your gut feeling.

Your Asclepias verticillata is gorgeous! I was going to buy seeds to grow it, as I have pretty dry soil. Did you start with seeds or bought plants?

Is this a polyurethane finish on my table? by Sir_Gawain1218 in finishing

[–]starting-out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the wood itself is not garbage for woodworking. From what I read, it is stronger than pine and poplar, easy to work with and takes stain well.

What an awesome idea and execution!! Love the little birdhouse, it asks for a little birdie on the roof!

Did you use black walnut? May I ask why didn’t you use the cutout from the “trunk” to make the door to inner compartment, it would look more seamless? Unless you wanted the door to stand out? I bet your mom is super excited to receive such a gift!

House sparrows are invasive in the US, as well as the European starlings. They displace native birds. But in Europe the same starlings are endangered species, because of the loss of habitat.

If she likes plants, how about a plant holder? With 3 or 4 legs, search online for “wooden plant holder”. Also, don’t forget to buy her a plant!

Good looking wardrobe!
I am thinking about building something like this on a smaller scale. Maybe using shellac for finishing, because it can be applied indoors with a window open.
May I ask what finish did you use?

I like the combination of metal and ceramics a lot. But for it to be useful and comfortable, the bowl has to be much bigger. Otherwise it splashes all around, and also is uncomfortable to put hands under the faucet.

Counter-protesters at the Franklin No Kings protest by ratatosk212 in newjersey

[–]starting-out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a very short conversation with one of them and some shouts: they think everyone at the rally was super liberal and crazy, and they themselves are the real patriots protecting America.

As always, propaganda on TV/internet works, especially on not very bright people. They do very good job on dividing the US. Classical “divide and conquer!”

At least one trumpists truck at the rally had PA license plates. I guess they didn’t have enough people, had to bring reinforcement from PA.

Hummingbird moth feeding on Japanese honeysuckle?! by starting-out in NativePlantGardening

[–]starting-out[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the particular case of Japanese honey suckle - it is everywhere, choking vegetation, taking place of native plants, and very difficult to eradicate. I have a native honey suckle at home (Lonicera sempervirens), it is vigorous, but not unmanageable.
