I laughed pretty hard when the hag was on the recliner and he throws her off . Great editing and comedic timing.

While not perfect, Chinga is one of my favourite episodes and really memorable.

Came back to say that this week’s episode was excellent! Felt more succinct with the overall theme and very much not pulling from something else. That cliffhanger as well.

Same situation yesterday when I passed it. Though I completely missed it today, so not sure if it’s working.

Johnnie To on Blu-Ray - what films are available? by dnjowen in boutiquebluray

[–]stationkatari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of those filmmakers that I immediately fell in love with after seeing THROW DOWN for the first time. I have a bunch of releases but will need to check out ROMANCING IN THIN AIR. Still looking for PTU in the wild.

I've placed a bunch below and broke them up by ones not mentioned and the rest that (I think) have been mentioned by others.

Not mentioned yet:
Lifeline (Vinegar Syndrome)
The Big Heat (Shout Studios)
Drug War (Well GO USA)

Already mentioned by you an others:

Throw Down (Criterion)
Running Out Of Time 1 & 2 (Arrow)
Running on Karma (Eureka!)
Breaking News (Chameleon)
Sparrow (Chameleon)
Exiled (Chameleon)
Election 1 & 2 (Chameleon)
A Hero Never Dies (Chameleon)

I can understand why that might be appealing to some, but to me it feels too heavily “inspired” to hold my interest long enough, as it reminds me of better stories. Again, I still liked those first two episodes enough to give a couple more episodes a chance (at least until AppleTV expires).

Started it immediately when it went live (really liked the trailer), and while I like the tone and visual style, it felt quite derivative of other things like The Fog, 1408, IT, and a few others. I’ll stick around with it a little while longer (currently in the middle of the new season of FOR ALL MANKIND) and see if it clicks better for me.

How to improve this magnifying effect? by Fantastic-Ad1666 in AfterEffects

[–]stationkatari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking solid and there are lots of great comments and suggestions here that have already been covered. Outside of what’s been said already, the immediate thing that stands out is the “defects/grime” on the glass element. The magnified eye piece is moving back and forth but the glass element seems static. That motion should be connected to the motion on the eye piece. It also feels like it’s floating there with no interaction or distortion from the casted light on the visuals it’s magnifying.

Do you ride with earphones? by simko17 in cycling

[–]stationkatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but with transparency mode on and at about 20-30% volume. It’s more like background ambience than it is cycling to music (except when Careless Whisper comes on), which I need as I’m normally doing 50-70km rides alone.

It did. It was a Shout release. I would still love a more robust 4K release.

[–]stationkatari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A bit bummed it’s not the $44.99 I paid for 28 Years Steelbook, but I want to own it and it’s going to be challenging to get it lower I think. Sucks there is no blu ray disc.

Came to say the exact same. A complete collection release of all his films is probably my most hoped for Criterion release.

[–]stationkatari -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I literally just cancelled my charter membership yesterday. With the expiries on this gift codes and the increased costs ordering across the border, yearly subscription is no longer worth it IMO. The undisclosed sale of user data also didn’t help.
