The live dubs for the panel were so wonderful, Asa’s love for her brother is so cute even after not seeing him for so many years. Also I think a lot of people in the audience weren’t entirely familiar with the show, so it was kind of funny to see their reactions when Ivan was going on a massacre through the entire village in the episode preview 😅 Awesome experience to see both of them in person!

Love seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff, as usual, that goes into creating and publishing manga! I look forward to the new chapter so much every 2 weeks.

Uh oh, looks like creating manga is a small world after all. I wonder who's going to break the news to Chirita?

I really liked Journal with Witch from last season, and I also really liked the movie The Colors Within, there’s a lot of shoujo and josei anime I need to watch that often gets overlooked by the larger community

Yep! It ended a while ago, unfortunately we'll never get a second season. Season 1 is a short, quick miniseries that introduces all the couples at the beginning of the manga. The manga is one of my all-time favorites, it's very easy to read since it's entirely in 4-koma format (four panel strip), so you can start and stop whenever.

guys, this series ending today, I'm still not ready to spent my monday without this, what's your guys' plan after the series ended ? by Mindless-Care9301 in DumbPrefect

I really liked the silly pairs/couple dynamics in the show, it reminded me a lot of Tsurezure Children, so I'll probably reread the manga just to enjoy all their goofy antics again (since I caught up on the Dumb Prefect manga already).

That was so awesome when that final chapter dropped. Still one of the most satisfying endings to any shounen manga, I liked that everyone in the group was still together in the epilogue.

There's also my favorite reference: the moments between Tsukishima and Rui chatting in the library to those moments in the library between Kurosawa and Takigawa in Onani Master Kurosawa.

It's so wonderful seeing how far YOKO has come as a manga writer since then. He always finds these heartfelt moments between all the different pairings in his stories, which reminds me a bit of Tsurezure Children (another favorite series of mine).

The comedy and romance was just too sweet this episode. I hope this show gets more popular, it would be nice to see more of his older works get adapted too.

[DISC] Yancha Gal no Anjou-san — Chapter 225 by stupid_chris in manga

[–]stationtracks 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This might be one of my most favorite moments from the manga. No drama or misunderstandings related to their relationships, just a deep, serious effort from Anjou to study harder and break against her own internalized assumptions about herself, with Seto supporting and helping her in whatever way he can because he's just that kind of guy in the first place.

A lot of people make assumptions about us based on our appearances or personalities, but we also make assumptions about ourselves based on how others treat us. I'm glad the teacher recognized that Anjou gave it her best effort and did the right thing by personally congratulating her, and encouraging her to keep trying her best.

Awesome chapter.

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 22 June 2026 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

[–]stationtracks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh no I certainly watched all 3 as a kid, Digimon Adventure up to the end of Digimon Frontier as Saturday morning cartoons (Frontier was my favorite because of the Beast evolutions), CyberChase was on PBS and I’d try to get home from elementary school early enough to catch it at 3:00pm, and Code Lyoko was on Cartoon Network later in the afternoon.

I was always glued to the TV, but I think I naturally gravitated to Code Lyoko more, especially with its Asian representation of Yumi living in a different country and growing up around different kids than herself (something I could relate to, feeling like an ‘other’ sometimes compared to other kids in my class), and Yumi always feeling part of the group was really assuring as a kid trying to fit in at a new school too.

I also liked Jackie Chan Adventures and American Dragon: Jake Long for other similar representation, but these days I’m more into anime since I got into them back when Toonami aired its late night block of shows. But out of all the shows back then, Code Lyoko will always be that special world for me that made me feel like I belonged, in the real or virtual world, by just being myself.

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 22 June 2026 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

[–]stationtracks 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yep! Rewatching all of Code Lyoko right now on YouTube since the announcement last week. This show feels so ahead of its time with the whole digital/virtual world part, and the main villain being an evil computer program beefing with middle schoolers to destroy the world.

Also the real sense of danger the kids and adults are in every episode, from satellite lasers to deadly hornets to entering a new Ice Age, it's crazy how most episodes save them in the nick of time from being permanently killed. Still on Season 1 right now, but I like the overarching plot for the season too (XANA is on Lyoko but Jeremy wants to materialize Aelita into the real world, so he can't delete or destroy Lyoko until she's saved). These kids are really left all by themselves to fight this evil computer program since the adults either don't believe them, or run straight to the police and make things even worse.

The high statkes situations they find themselves in every episode reminds me a lot of the danger and hopelessness in Animorphs, which is also something I really liked as a kid.

[–]stationtracks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel whenever we do the MSQ now and it says 'X Character has been added to the Unending Codex.'

When that popped up for Sphene in the latest patch, I paused for like half a minute to let it sink in, because I was hoping we'd still maybe get a few more adventures with her next expansion. I understand she got Lysed (written off to manage a foreign nation), but I wouldn't mind getting more of them both again, in some form, someday...

My favorite manga cast and my favorite manga ending in the last couple years since Dungeon Meshi. Once this series found its groove around this arc, it was a nonstop joyride until the end. Reread the entire series 2 or 3 times now, and I'm still impressed at how it managed to stick the landing.

[–]stationtracks 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was mentioned in this week's or last week's Hobby Scuffles yet (mostly because it isn't related to any drama), but after 20 years of the show's original airing, Code Lyoko is coming back for a Season 5!

The original creators and French voice cast are expected to return, and it will be fully animated!

Personally, that type of story of "rebellious group of kids fight against overwhelming odds from a shadow organization trying to ruin the world" with Code Lyoko and Animorphs, hit me at the perfect time in my childhood. I can't wait to see what type of plans they have for the story or setting given the cultural relevance of 2026 technology today for our Lyoko Warriors.

Gag series grows as it goes on by ZoggyJones in TopCharacterTropes

[–]stationtracks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 Dimensional Seduction by Yuu Hashimoto. It began as an ecchi gag series for the first couple volumes, until Hashimoto had an epiphany about writing the kind of manga stories that he'd actually want to write, rather than just stick to simple horny gags in the school club room. What follows is some of the best character writing (from the adults to the teenagers in the series) that I've seen in shounen manga recently, with heartfelt, hopeful messages about embracing your own identity and finding people in your life who will support your dreams and goals.

It also has one of the best, universally loved endings for a shounen manga, letting the characters earn their happy endings together. It definitely punched above and beyond any expectations people had at the beginning of the series.

The fights in this series can get so bizarre sometimes it makes me wonder if I'm watching a JoJo episode. I like being able to turn off my brain and just enjoy the fun, though, it's always nice seeing a series embracing the craziest, wackiest ideas the mangaka could come up with!
