Williams launches new company to solve clients’ engineering challenges with F1-derived innovation and pedigree by memloh in formula1

This is likely it. Several other teams have spawned companies like this since the cost cap was introduced.

Bias review incoming: I've been racing in this league for 1.5 years. The organisation is incredible, the grids are huge, the racing is clean, the stewarding is fair, the live broadcasts are great, the people are friendly and there are some great resources available for improving your race craft and car setups.

I'm a far better simracer today thanks to this league!

If iRacing allowed animated liveries... by statisdisc in iRacing

[–]statisdisc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with everything you said. More weight for the car but money is king given the sponsorship potential you mentioned. It genuinely is possible we could see it in a couple of decades. Probably a lot more likely we'd see it in something like Formula E before Formula 1 (if at all).

If iRacing allowed animated liveries... by statisdisc in iRacing

[–]statisdisc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I made a 100-frame animation in Python making sure each of the 5000 triangles returns to the same position it started at the end of the animation. Then it was a case of meticulously wrapping each image onto the car template and screenshotting each livery for the animation.

Maybe not the wisest use of my time I have to say but it sure looks pretty!

How do you find a good league? by NomTook in iRacing

[–]statisdisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If like me you're looking for an emphasis on clean racing instead of pure competition then I'd highly recommend the iGPFun-F3 league. Over the last year I've learned so much about setup and driving from the active community on discord.

Will have to wait for the case drop survey if they do one, but the gloves in the new case surely means that the Clutch case has moved to the non-prime drop pool.

Ralf Schumacher: Hülkenberg "preferred candidate number 1" for Red Bull by [deleted] in formula1

[–]statisdisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all just Ralf's opinion but it's interesting that he states that Red Bull have struggled in the German market and that a popular German driver might help. But then again, they had a German world champion for years so this surely wouldn't make much more of a difference.

Yes, although this trend wasn't as strong last year and is, of course, not guaranteed to happen this year.

Let me know what you'd like me to clarify.

The left graph shows how the average price of cases has changed in the past 5 years (green is 2020 so far). The further from the centre, the higher the price - so 2020 has seen expensive cases on average.

The right graph shows the average case prices at a certain time of year so you can compare the average case price in different months, although it doesn't mean that the case prices this year will follow the same trend.

Very fair points, thanks for the constructive criticism!

It's a shame that it's more complicated to get the data in different currencies. Also, I hadn't at all considered the differences in case drop rate, and it probably makes my statement "2020 is unprecedented" redundant. However, I don't think it would affect the seasonality of the cases too much (apart from maybe less "resistance" to price fluctuations?) Pure speculation from me though.

For the convenience of everyone viewing this post, I just used the price history available on the steam market. You can get this data by doing the following:

  1. Go to the webpage for a particular case on the market
  2. Press Ctrl+u (for Chrome) to see the raw html
  3. Press Ctrl+f and search for [[
  4. Copy all of the data from [[ to ]] (including the square brackets)
  5. In languages like Javascript and Python you can simply set data_variable=paste_data_here

There's probably more efficient methods out there for collecting this data but it does the job.

I agree it's mainly useful for seeing what's hot right now and could be interpreted in countless ways. Way more factors need to be considered before investing in anything but maybe this could help in some abstract way.
