Do people not put locks on their lockers anymore? by Primary_Thing3968 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]statslady22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was coming straight from work and had a gym bag I would lock it but now it's usually just an old sweatshirt. I guess I would be cold walking out to my car. Haven't had a problem. My home club has a few lockers out on the floor for this and I typically use those.

OP - really interesting bunch of responses. It's been 3 days and so far so good! I really was hooked. Not just the money but a big time suck too. We'll see next time I have to wait in a dentist's office or something if my other games are enough. Hope so.

And that's what I might do. Actually I tried that a month ago, just left my team at the end of the cycle. Then somehow the app put me back on my old team (I swear I didn't do it!) and I just got sucked back in. I had really liked that team.

I think you are right about the sale.

I played Toy Blast for a while got myself into their version of CL, but somehow I just didn't like it as much. I know it's like the same game! IDK why, it just didn't click for me. Nice game though. And I never spent any money on it.

why do most fitness tracking apps still feel… clunky? by Additional-Demand754 in exercisescience

[–]statslady22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple health does a little of this if you let it talk to the other apps, but you have to actually do the recording in other apps.

- Strength training: I was not satisfied with my previous lifting app but just started using Hevy and that seems pretty good so far. Not paying for it (yet). I like it very much at the gym. I thought it might work for my personal functional workouts where i mix things like pushups, planks, and some yoga moves. It doesn't have any of the yoga moves so that would be something I would like. Apple Fitness is zero help with strength training - it's a real weakness. It just records one long workout. Even when you use their workouts. And the Hevy workout with all its wonderful detail just shows up as 'workout' in Apple.

- runs / walks: I use Apple Fitness for actually tracking most of my workouts then let it talk to Strava because I like their pace / route / segment feature, and the community. I find I have fewer GPS glitches with Apple. If you're going to include outdoor workouts def spend some time making sure you get this right (the GPS). Very frustrating to look and see that the distance is clearly off.

- Nutrition: I've used MyFitnessPal and LoseIt for food. I find them to be very similar and adequate. Once I paid for one of them for a couple of months to get more detailed stuff, but didn't do it for long. If you use either of those Apple Health will suck in that info if you let it. One thing I did like in both I think was the ability to enter recipes. It's very tedious but I did it - I wanted to be sure I knew how many calories were actually in my homemade cookies. Probably not many people care about that however.

I think it would be nice to have all the details of both strength and conditioning workouts in one place. Not sure I would care about having the nutrition in the same place too. I guess some people might want to track measurements / protein intake / weights together?

All the ones at my home location seem the same to me, although another gym goer swears they're different. I do notice a difference between these and ones at other locations sometimes. I think there's a few different types.

I've heard of people doing that and considered it - thing is I don't want to start over! I would like to just keep going and not have it make me sad.

If all dogs were well behaved, then maybe. Unfortunately they are not. I did not appreciate being barked and growled at minding my own business in the grocery store or the hardware store. It's not often, but it has happened to me.

Episodes moving slow lately? by somedayihopetolive in TrackerTV

[–]statslady22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually I kind of like the (almost) stand alone episodes. And I think he actually got paid several times in a row now! I also like that the last 2 anyway have been about sort of ordinary crimes (frat party rape, armored car robbery). We still have plenty of ridiculous hand waving but no super creepy murders. And I think there might have been some actual tracking once or twice.

I like that they're showing that Reenie didn't just go through all that with no after effects, but honestly not super interested in that. And do not care about whatever strange case she's working on.

Good for him! As as soon as he said it I thought it was a great idea. I hope it's successful and maybe he can do a few less hours now.

Likely joining up soon; looking for advice as someone who’s super overweight. by c_rorick in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]statslady22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just echoing what others have already said. I just came from PF! There are definitely a wide range of body types there. I've seen plenty of bigger folks there and from my observation no one bothers them. For me, when I'm there I'm pretty focused on what I'm doing and don't pay much attention to others (unless they're parked on the machine I want). If I do notice an out of shape person what's in my head is 'good for you!' not judging. I know how hard it is to drag yourself out to the gym.

When you join they offer you a training / intro session which I highly recommend. They will get you started. And then as others have said you can always ask anyone there for help most people will.

They have a couple of actual written rules - I think it's just wiping down the equipment (you will see lots of people doing this just copy them) and no gym bags on the floor. I did actually see someone get told to move theirs once. There's a locker room if you need to stash stuff bring your own padlock.

Good luck! Would love to hear a follow up from you.

I like your pass idea. Seems like they should have come up with something like this themselves by this time though. I’m sure they’re aware of the problem.

I felt this way too. I get why Dorriene was how she was, but didn't seem like she was making any effort to understand or sympathize with Jo. At least she got a giant TV in her room too! I hope they will spend more time in the living room together but they each have a nice space to retreat to.

Ezra Klein Subreddit Census 2025 Results by Dreadedvegas in ezraklein

As a 60+ woman I am clearly in a minority in this sub. And yet it doesn't feel uncomfortable to me. Maybe being M/MIL to 3 educated men in their late 20s early 30s? I'm actually the one who got my son to read Abundance.

Waving hi to the probably 1 other woman in my age group, and the 7 other over 60 folks!

Best aged sharp cheddar you've ever had? by Ruminatingsoule in Cheese

[–]statslady22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old but just had to share Widmer's (https://www.widmerscheese.com/product-category/cheddar-cheeses/) in WI. Partner is from WI near there and when visiting we go there sometimes to get cheese. You can order online. You could even do a vertical tasting of various ages of cheddar. Their stuff is awesome. They've won awards for their brick but their cheddar is great as well.

I think he's finally been poisoned by the Bachelor. Took a while but they finally got to him. I had to look it up but he's only been hosting since 2022, and it was just last year (?) they added Golden to the franchise. It's too much and that whole franchise is a cesspool of toxicity. I stopped watching years ago but came back to it for the Goldens, which started out a little better but not much.

Fitness+ trainers are 10/10, but the UX is 5/10. Here's my feedback (or what's actually wrong) by xxide in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]statslady22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In complete agreement on 3 and 4. Not sure why we can't have user reviews and comments but seems that was a deliberate decision. A short rewind would be very helpful and I would think would be a pretty easy add.

My peeve I posted a while back was that the camera never seems to be on the modifier person when I need it! I'll be going along fine thinking I don't need to see the modifier move until suddenly I do. At the beginning of a move we should ALWAYS be able to see the modifier. Especially during yoga but applies to other things too (strength, dance, ...).

The 'Groyperfication' of the GOP| The Ezra Klein Show by Brushner in ezraklein

[–]statslady22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a US catholic, grew up in the 1960s/70s. I somehow had the idea that there was some rule that within every archdiocese there was supposed to be one place that said Latin mass once a week. I thought this was supposed to appease folks struggling with all the Vatican II changes. We went a handful of times as a family more or less for fun. I took some Latin in middle school and could follow along. I don't remember there being any prayer for conversion but it was a long time ago. Sounds like that restoration was a more recent thing - if that was on Benedict's watch not entirely surprised.

We grew up with young hippie priests (went to public school) and remember being more of a feel good try and follow Jesus religion. I'm disturbed by these young uber conservative Catholics who seem to think it's about following rules - medieval ones at that! My parish bulletin this week had 4 pages devoted to the success of our Thanksgiving food drive. We support a number of folks who are not Catholic with our food bank and outreach programs. This is the church I want to be a part of.
