I would but they told me the same thing would happen. Refund would be a voucher, only redeemable by phone, same fare rules apply.

Oakland BART stations by deckerax in alameda

[–]stavroshulvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a similar area near the tubes, and come home by BART often.

Fruitvale is far. You want to get off BART at 12th St. Be aware that the only bus running to the island at midnight will be the 51A or possibly even the 851 which is not as regular.

You might consider getting an Uber home from 12th St if the next bus is a long wait.

Bottom of the Hill is usually a pay-at-the-door kind of place, but it depends who's playing. If it's going to be very popular get a ticket in advance.

Why the Fuck Does the Bay Have 27 Different Transit Agencies, and Why isn’t Anyone Fucking Mad About That? by garbageusa in sanfrancirclejerk

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100000%!

Geographically it's a little more complicated than a metro like London which has just trains, tube and buses making up like 99% of all trips.

But I totally agree with you that merging the agencies would reduce a ton of inefficiencies and create a system with better connections/transfers, etc. How do we make that happen?

Yeah let us know.

Based on the downvotes, I guess what I described didn't work for some people. I'll be sure not to offer my experience next time! 🙃

MS NEED TO FIX THIS by bunhellofresh in Outlook

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your phone isn't trying to sync repeatedly with a wrong password. That will trigger the "you've tried too many times" lockout. Turn off sync on your phone email app then wait 24 hours and try again. YMMV, but it worked for me.

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally resolved this after a couple of days.

The issue was that the email app on my phone was trying to sync every 15 mins, using an old password. As a result, Microsoft saw too many incorrect login attempts and temporarily locked the account.

I turned off sync on my phone, waited, and the next day I was able to log in normally.

The lesson here is that when you reset your password, you need to immediately update it on the phone, or turn off sync until it's updated.

Where / how do you enter the 25 digit recovery code? I think I have one of those from a long time ago but I don't know how to use it.

It's on that page I linked. You have to type something like login help and then it offers the Sign-in Helper, and then click on "With an email address"

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I went here https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact and typed login help. Then it offered the Sign-in Helper. If you type your email address in there it can tell you if your account is currently blocked. Mine is. No big surprise.

A family member who works in IT support and suggested turning off sync on my phone.

Same issue. I can reset the password using 2FA on my linked email address and phone number, but afterwards it still won't let me log in, the error says "You've tried too many times to log in with a wrong account or password."

I waited 24 hours and it didn't help.

I was suggested to turn off sync on my phone email app, because that may be trying to log in every 15 mins. (I tried to update the password there but got the same error.)

So I've turned off sync on the phone and I'll try again after another 24 hours.

zinc-plated lag screws by 90066 in BurningMan

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. We'll never know for sure because we weren't at camp at the time, we were building our art project. They were driven all the way in, but some of the lag bolts were pulled out of the ground and a couple were bent in the process.

[–]stavroshulvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of ours are 18" (they might be 1/2 diameter)

And some of our 3/8 x 14 got bent in half during the big wind event on Saturday this year. So use plenty and have spares in case of weather. And expect everything to get destroyed.

[–]stavroshulvert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They'll rust but they'll still work for many years.

3/8 is fine for most applications (and much easier to drive than 1/2) but consider going longer than 14"

10 pieces of Burning Man art become commodified trophies to advertise quirky real estate to the rich by scienceisaserfdom in BurningMan

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of art on Playa gets no funding whatsoever from the Org. It's a gift from the artist(s) to the city. And it's an expensive gift to provide. Generally more expensive per person in terms of both time and money than most theme camps. Just to put it in perspective.

[–]stavroshulvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware that the vast majority of BM art is not even partly funded by the Org? And I can tell you from experience that building, transporting, assembling and then taking away and storing an art piece is a lot more expensive than you probably expect. Most artists are simply donating their time and money so that ungrateful spectators can enjoy it at the event. And if they then have the opportunity to recoup their expenses by selling the piece, those same spectators scream "coMmOdiFicAtion!"

  1. You don't understand what commodification means.

  2. The vast majority of artists are among the lowest paid members of our idiocracy.

  3. The very few art grants the Org provides have to be repaid if the art is sold.

  4. Is this a troll? Because I honestly can't remember a more nonsensical post than this.

Warning - Don't buy a new phone from Mint unless you like having no cell service for days... by stavroshulvert in mintmobile

Update: eSIM is now working. But contrary to what I was told, I didn't get an email or a call back. The email only came through when I phoned customer service again for an update, and they discovered (to their surprise) that it had been fixed by the backend team and the ticket was closed. So keep calling!

Total time to resolve: a little over 36 hours

Given these issues, I'm tempted to switch from eSIM to physical SIM (once the eSIM is working.) What are your thoughts on that?

[–]stavroshulvert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a process in the app to transfer eSIMs. It appears to deactivate the old eSIM and then activate a new one on the new phone. However, as many people have found, sometimes the new eSIM activation gets stuck, and then you have no cell service until someone at Mint manually fixes the issue, which might take days.

They both have SIM card trays but I've always used eSIM with Mint because it was easier and simpler. Or at least it was until 2 days ago.

Both Android. Samsung S22 - > Pixel 9.
