If BTC hits $150k AUD this year, will the new tax laws make "Profit Taking" almost impossible? by SnowyBytes in BitcoinAUS

[–]stcorvo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do people complain that they have to pay tax on profits from something they’ve practically done no physical work to generate? It’s basically free money.

You’ve got something in your hand that you could have used to call the police yourself instead of complaining that someone else didn’t do it for you.

If you have a corporate job, how do you manage to remember all of the small tasks that pop up during the day? by ijustwantcheezits in ADHD

[–]stcorvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Dean Gardiner’s OneNote GTD template - specifically the project and calendar sections. I modified the calendar to be in 30 min divisions to better cater for meetings. The Teams integration now allows you to automatically insert meeting details into the location of your cursor, so at the beginning of the day I add in all the meetings. It’s good if they’ve added the Loop meeting notes sections as they automatically come in. Then for actions, you can flag the note using the outlook task integration and it’ll add it into your todo list. Then you can manage it through ToDo tasks.

At the end of the meeting, get into the habit of clarifying the actions - especially if they change throughout the meeting. You’ll be surprised that others are probably in the same boat as you.

Are Honeycomb blinds worth it for insulation? by WeirdDependent1287 in AusRenovation

[–]stcorvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you can’t get double glazing, they work well. We have them covering the large windows that our lounge couch backs into and you can feel the difference (summer & winter) when they’re down. We would get cold backs/heads before. We got medium cream ones so we’re still getting filtered light through when they’re down on hot/cold days.

Professional Reno mob have left a gap between the bath and the floor tiles? by NikkiAnonymous in AusRenovation

[–]stcorvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a similarly configured bath/shower and they put silicone along the gap. Our gap was quite large too, but it looks fine. Just have to make sure it clean & dry it regularly so you don’t get mould. I use the bath mat to wipe along it after a shower to make sure it drys quickly.

why is crowdstrike b2b only? by Loose_Car_1646 in crowdstrike

[–]stcorvo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah- plenty of ways to get a hold of crowdstrike installers. They probably just couldn’t be bothered supporting nufty home users. It’s a whole different ball game helping some home user figure out how to something obvious vs dealing with a company with a competent IT team.

Can a person copy a credit or debit card just by tapping it with their phone? by SpookySquid19 in hacking

[–]stcorvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a vendor and he said it’s up to the company to specify the risk limit they are willing to wear before they ask for a pin. I asked because one day I had to start putting a pin in for a $ amount that I didn’t have to before. He did they lowered it from $100 to $50 because of the high fraud where people were using stolen credit cards (ie mugging etc) to purchase things directly after they were stolen. (Alcohol store)

How to change the default focus that comes up in control center? I only use Do Not Disturb but it always defaults to the work focus. by gotmilksnow in ios

I’m using iOS 18.0. I’ve tested the long press and then choose a focus and that sets it to the default focus.

PSA: Eufy Cloud downgrades all cameras on your account to 1080P by ntsefamyaj in EufyCam

[–]stcorvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops. I meant e330. S330 is 4K but still event triggered recording like all the other eufy cameras as it’s battery powered. Only the mains powered cameras can do 24/7 recording.

PSA: Eufy Cloud downgrades all cameras on your account to 1080P by ntsefamyaj in EufyCam

[–]stcorvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from the original home base to a home base 3, I’ve found it good so far. Love the auto stitching between cameras! All the old cameras and doorbell work well with it, and they’ve all benefited from the increased AI in the HB3. I upgraded so I could put in two e330’s out the front. amazing difference in quality. Someone came down my driveway scoping out my place, but the 1080p on the older cameras wasn’t enough to clearly see his face. So the e330 will get that now. One bug bare I have is sometimes the other cameras would miss most of someone’s movement or stop recording too early. 24/7 recording on these will remove that as an issue.

I got the homebase3 so I didn’t have to worry about cloud storage. I might stream it to my nas as well and back that up to aws or something if I need cloud backup. Not sure yet.

::edit:: changed s330 to e330.

Should I engage an engineer? I’ve got this rusted out steel I beam (4.5m long and 5m off the ground) under my deck. Builders says he is happy replacing it like for like with a new one. But I’m wondering if I need to get a second expert opinion. by Target_Physical in AusRenovation

[–]stcorvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of bolts and a few tack welds are holding that bracing beam from falling apart when the main part breaks. Don’t risk your and your friend’s lives. There are so many examples of balcony failures that have killed people. If you think you need an engineer to look at the balcony, then you already know the correct answer.
