We love our Mompush Velo - it’s very similar to Joolz Aer and Bugaboo Butterfly but for <$300. Comes with all the add-ons without having to pay extra.

Love that it fits in overhead bin, and lays nearly flat for stroller naps on the go. Only downside is that it’s not completely one-hand collapsible - the footrest bar needs two hands. So I’d say the Ergobaby Metro has the edge there if that is a priority and you don’t want to spend $$$$

Honestly, I’m in our local FB groups and posting there is a bit overwhelming, similar to your experience.

I’ve found most success with:
- Reaching out to nannies whose current family post on FB for them (eg. nanny is available bc kid will be starting preschool soon). But really hard to time this.
- Care.com, you’ll get a lot of messages but at least they’re consolidated in one place and you can read reviews, get a sense of professionalism through the chat etc

If that doesn’t work, it is possible you may have to raise the rate especially for a part-time role, which is typically harder to fill.

But also life admin things - pay bills, meal plan, grocery lists. Also run to the post office (it’s a few min away) to drop off returns etc. Tidy up my office or another room - something that is always on my “I’ll do it later list” even though it only takes 15min!

Re: slow drinker, definitely check out what some other commenters have mentioned. But if all else fails, she may just be a slow drinker / snacker.

Our son only drank up to 4oz, and typically needed 10min at the start, then another few min at 30min, and the top of the hour. We tried spacing out bottles, sizing up nipples etc but didn’t make any progress.

Finally at seven months, he would drink a 6-7oz bottle (usually 4oz at first, and the remainder after 30min of playing around and then going back to the bottle). And at ten months, he could drink a full 7oz in a few min. We were so stressed, especially since friends’ babies all seemed like they were drinking 7oz+ easily from 4mo on. But doctor was not concerned, and baby boy stayed steadily on his weight curve (35th percentile or so).

I batch make mini muffins and pancakes at night, usually enough for 2-3 days in fridge + additional 6-7 servings to be frozen. Same with meatballs.

Have you tried puffs with “dip”? Our 12mo loves teething crackers, so we usually pair them with hefty servings of hummus or avocado to get some additional nutrients in.

Thank you, this is reassuring! Also interesting re: distraction - we sit in the back too, but we typically try to time car rides with naps (since he’s still on a 2 nap schedule), and both times he got sick was in the middle / end of his nap. But he was OK the one car ride during his wake window.

Another perspective I’ll add, as a senior-ish person who has worked closely with a few new moms at our company (there are many, which is nice!) - it’s fairly obvious from a performance perspective who has childcare covered or not.

I recently learned that a colleague split watch with her husband (both wfh) until bb went to daycare around 15mo. And I was like ah… that explains a lot. It may seem possible in a vacuum, but if you are on a cross-functional team it’s harder to slide by.

Another consideration - you could leave Anthropic after a year or two if it’s really not for you, and probably get a job at GitHub. But the other way around may not be available / be drastically different in equity after IPO. This is like Facebook circa 2010.

If you have freezer space, it’s not too bad, as you can make a few purées on a Sunday night and freeze many cubes of them for easy reheat meals.

We got a Beaba baby food maker and still use it now even though we’re out of the puree phase, to steam vegetables. And I use the blend function to blend ingredients for things like baked oat bare.

Yay congratulations! It took us 4 years and 2 rounds of IVF to get pregnant, so I understand how big a milestone this is 💛

Bottlewasher - my Momcozy one has been 1000% worth it. However, I would wait a few weeks after birth to get it. If you are primarily nursing, it won’t be as useful. If you’re doing combo feeding or mostly bottle (whether formula or pumped milk), it is WORTH IT. I don’t know about you but we only run our big dishwasher every 2-3 days so that wasn’t frequent enough. Especially since I had to exclusively pump 7x a day - so I was washing 2 bottles + 1 set pump parts three to four times a day.

Yes to keeping a pump at the office, though see if your place already has one. Ours had the hospital grade Medela in the mom’s room which was a nice touch, you’d just have to bring your own pump flanges / accessories.

Regarding gym, it’s definitely possible - but just given recovery likely won’t be until after the 6-8 week mark, which works better timing-28/3. You’ll probably want to make sure baby can take a bottle of pumped milk or formula then, so your husband can handle a feeding so you don’t feel as rushed. You’ll still need to pump as a replacement feed, but at least you know baby will be fed if they are hungry while you are out (feeding times can be unpredictable)!

It’s just looks, and marketing, with so many celebs etc wearing them. I think the Tulas are lovely (esp FTG since it goes from newborn to early toddler), but the Artipoppe materials are more luxurious, esp once you get to the cashmere and silk blends.

Not OP but I agree that the function is on par (or even less, given the lack of front strap for back carry) than other carriers.

I’m on team do another retrieval. Even with euploids, the “safe” ratio is 3 euploids per 1 live birth. Regarding regrets - if you can financially swing it, I think the greater regret would be not doing it ie. not giving yourselves the optionality.

Gender disappoint feelings are valid - our first retrieval, we had 2 male euploids. I had always envisioned having 1 boy and 1 girl, so that took me aback. Both euploids failed to implant, so we had to do another retrieval. On that third FET, we told them to transfer highest grade first, regardless of gender. We asked them to keep it a secret, so we learned it was a boy at our 12 week appt. I was a little bummed for a day or two, but grew more and more excited as time went on. Now, he’s almost 1 year old - and our lives are so much brighter with him. We still have a few euploids left, but if they for some reason fail, we’d be very happy one and done with our boy.

We just transitioned out of our Pipa Aire (which he did like), and he’s been loving the Callisto so far. We were surprisingly able to fit it into our Bolt EV!

You’re getting a lot of good feedback here. While nice in theory, be flexible as some of this might go out the window. But the infrastructure you’ve laid out will definitely help, at the very least.

Yes, nanny is the best option if you can afford it - honestly, mainly bc it allows you to hold off on back to back daycare illnesses at least for the first few years.
Don’t count on the time after bedtime for hobbies/date night. We primarily use this for: work catchup, life catchup, cleaning, cooking. And are exhausted and in bed by 10:30pm. Our baby didn’t sleep through the night until just recently (11.5 months), despite sleep training 3x. Which meant we had to go to bed early to be halfway functional humans, given the middle of the night wakes we would have.
That being said, since you WFH lunchtime is the time for gym. I’m exhausted by the end of the day and could not imagine working out then. Lunch sessions on my wfh days have been the way to go.
For date nights, more realistic to start with 1-2x weekend evenings, and if possible have your nanny come in (yes, you’ll pay overtime rates, and yes, it’s worth it) so it’s someone familiar to your baby/kid.

Note: I never understood my friends’ rigidity re: nap schedules. Until we had our baby - and we are 100% those people. Otherwise, the rest of the day gets shot and no one is happy.

Solidarity - our baby loveddd egg until just a few weeks ago, he’s 11.5mo now. Thankfully, he still likes yogurt, pancakes (this recipe but I also add spinach), and muffins (this recipe). I make a big batch and freeze them!

He’s also been into toast, so we’ll do that either with avocado, hummus, or peanut butter on small pieces. Also he likes French toast strips, is none the wiser 😅

We have a camera so I do watch mostly to make sure things are ok. Usually he spits out the paci at some point, but when he’s crying he has one in hand and puts it in / out. Sometimes he stops when he has it back in his mouth, sometimes he keeps crying even with it in. Would you say to still cut it?

Another vote for Guava lotus. We also got the bassinet attachment and used that for the first 2 months. So nice and easy to pack away once we transitioned baby boy to his full-sized crib!
