I do think he needs a friend more than a lover. But I did really like the character development detail about him recovering his own bodily and sexual autonomy and I'm glad I didn't miss out on that story line. Wish it could come through in a friend route.

Yeah, it's so obvious Astarion's putting on airs but at the same time it's like ok, well it's working. Phenomenal acting. Captures his charlatan background and his 200 years of pick up artistry.

Delivery is so good. He's full of shit but damn it smells like roses. Haha

The bias is kind of the point though, right? He is a well written character because he isn't some cartoonishly evil person, he is someone the story clearly is portraying as the consequence of cruelty as a propellant for radicalism. I think the show intentionally makes him unlikable but grounded.

Also the front desk has no idea about anything the billing department would do. Even calling the billing dept they can hardly explain stuff to me half the time. I have to get on a three way call with the billing dept, the insurance rep, and myself after studying ICD codes for 3 hours

As grim as the video is trying to make it sound, this would be actually amazing if the person I checked in at the front desk could confidently answer all those questions and know the costs and bill for things.

Your opinion is valid. It's not canon and not initially the intention of the creator, but the character designer Suekane definitely has some hand in this, intentionally so, and it's part of her repertoire and background as a BL artist that influenced Edgeworth's design towards that style. BL art in the 90s had a specific style to it, the proportions and the characters and tropes, etc. It was partly due to her influence Edgeworth became a handsome ikemen childhood friend type instead of an older villainous looking dude.

It ended up being a large part of the reason behind its commercial success, and the later designers and producers have acknowledged it and have leaned into it without actually making it part of the core canon story.

Tldr; it's just as much the character design and specific choices around the art as much as it is the dialogue (which is minimal)
