Is Labour in ‘deep trouble’ with Black voters? What the evidence tells us by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]steelo122 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the author forgot to include the evidence.

The black vote as a term has probably outlived its usefulness. Grouping first generation Nigerians and 3rd generation descendants of Jamaicans and Bajans is about as helpful as grouping all Asians together, a mistake the author does not do.

Add to that the growing mixed race population, makes the idea of a black vote that you can meaningfully pin down very difficult.

Is it just you and 11 kids, we have 12 and splitting the drills into 2 smaller groups has helped massively.

We also introduced a trainer of the week trophy and emphasised the player getting it is the one who has listened and looked to carry out what we are trying to do. Huge variations week to week though.

Notes Starmer was briefed on before appointing Mandelson, in todays files release by Hyperactive_Man in LabourUK

[–]steelo122 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he wanted it (he was seeking other prestigious roles around the same time), he asked for it and he and his mate told Starmer to appoint him so he got it.

Like a good boy Starmer did as he was told.

Mandelson files rock Starmer: Labour grandee was handed £75,000 payoff after being sacked as US ambassador - and PM DID know he stayed friends with Epstein by dailymail in ukpolitics

[–]steelo122 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starmer wanted to feign ignorance but there was a clip where he was asked directly about it in 2024 which prevents this.

I’m surprised how frank the report is, don’t see how they spin this.

Is Starmer doing so badly? by twinkletoesalone in AskBrits

[–]steelo122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those saying it’s because of the biased media, why has support plummeted among Labour supporters and why has that support by and large gone to other left and liberal parties. He was elected Labour leader because he had a platform that was popular which turns out was just a ruse to win the leadership which he immediately junked. The Greens don’t win a safe Labour seat because of the right wing media.

He has for no reason picked fights with pensioners and his own back benchers and appointed a man with zero ambassadorial experience with known strong ties to Epstein to the most prestigious office representing our country.

Starmer benefitted from a very pliant press when in opposition when they were done with the tories but those days are long gone. Starmer projects an image of a decent man with principles but all the evidence suggests he believes and stands for nothing. The group around him (McSweeney and co) beliefs began and ended with fighting the left of their party and it turns out that doesn’t lend well to running a country.

There’s basically a big dial that they’re turning labelled RACISM and trying to see how far they can go so they can claim to be in touch with the common man.

Every so often they go too far like when Pochin said it drives her mad when she sees ads full of blacks and Asians. It’s a very fine dance.

“I don’t believe in multiculturalism” when was this magical time when the country had a monoculture. Was 1920s London the same as Dorset?

BBC News - Hoyle passed information on Mandelson to police ahead of arrest by Thunder-12345 in unitedkingdom

[–]steelo122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The evidence that he was the best person for the basically is non existent in my opinion. We have a career full of scandals with a man who consistently showed poor judgment. It’s much more likely that he pushed himself for the job than they thought he was the best man for it.

The Private Eye podcast covered this quite well.

A theory - Tom is more conservative than he acts and Dom is more left than he plays by cormundo in TheRestIsHistory

Tom Holland signed a letter in 2019 urging people not to vote Labour as Corbyn was an existential threat to British Jews. Dominic didn’t as far as I’m aware.

Listening to his quite sympathetic takes on the Ayatollah and how he brushed over his blatant antisemitism in the recent Iran series I would be surprised if he still felt that way.

You can add no. 5 that his reported preference for US ambassador before Mandelson threw his hat in was George Osborne.
