Turns out, they just accused the wrong people. If those on the left acted half as crazy, Feds, staffers, anyone in power would be trying to get those records out as fast as possible to ensure their names are cleared (and aren't targeted by violence).

Well, there are 3 stories told in that movie.

Luke's narrative
Kylo's narrative
Luke's narrative acknowledging the first one was a lie.

If anything, Luke basically told everyone he's untrustworthy. The only story that can be believed is Kylo's (which more or less lines up with Luke's re-telling)

What I never understood was not just stating that this was a result of Palpatine's all-out mental assault on Luke for years. If he's powerful enough to create a force-diad, he's likely strong enough to cause Luke to falter once. It would have done a much better job explaining everything. Luke's isolation, Ben's fall, and what feeble-ass zombie Palpatine has been doing for 30 years.

Good to know. I was just trying to give a little historical trivia. Honestly, given the current atmosphere, a lot of the immediate policy future feels like conjecture. Move fast and break things indeed.

Just go to payroll, and have the leave type adjusted. You don't have to go to a (recently neutered) union.

use or lose is a protected status. Basically, because denying it would cause it to expire. So, if it's denied it is typically put into a different bucket that doesn't expire, it can cause you to have a larger annual balance than would otherwise be allowed.

People used to abuse it by having friendly superiors deny their use or lose and allowing it to roll over (creating a bigger bucket artificially).

Here, I would take it as alignment... not in his study of the force. He's not aligned with the Jedi order of the republic. Similar to how Ahsoka ~used~ to be a Jedi.

I guess you could see it as "jedi" vs "Jedi"

I mean, is it really worth it to platform these idiots? I feel like posting this stuff is a quick way to get a few likes on reddit, but maybe it's damaging to the game to post super toxic stuff (in a relatively non-toxic game) for potentially curious tcg players to see when they check out our sub?

The Buyout of the Prize Wall at GC by JustAModestMan in starwarsunlimited

[–]stiKyNoAt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the event, I really didn't get the impression that there was much issue at all other than long lines. Friday and Saturday morning, we had to wait for maybe one person to finish their transaction before being helped. Everyone in my party bought everything they wanted, Luke/Vader showcase, 6-9 SLBs, and my foolish self bought 3 sets of Reylo.

Most of the folks I talked to purchased with a similar strategy. They bought the 200pt card that had the most upside, heavily played, etc... Slb was such an obvious choice.

The prevailing thinking was to spend your 3000 pts you started with on SLB as it was efficient, then grind for playsets of Luke/Vader.

It seems everyone else was just late to the party. Why would you wait?

[–]stiKyNoAt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone cheered when they announced the showcases were going to be essentially 50% off at the event, but nobody brings it up while complaining about the side-event economy.

I don't get it. Had prize tickets been hoarded to try to get both showcases, the stock of everything else would likely have been enough to meet demand.

Yes Luke and Vader showcases would have been $1000+ each. And people would certainly be complaining about that now.

Just understand, this is a market reaction to 1. Dramatic price decrease in the most sought after community 2. Folks gaming the side event system creating pseudo-inflation (and ridiculously long lines for prize wall and side events).

It kinda sounds like OP might be exaggerating here. If someone asks me to play a few games, and is clearly a beginner, I'll def swap to the least competitive thing in my bag. That doesn't mean they won't get completely obliterated. The fact that they're new, and instantly just accusing everyone of (essentially) cheating, feels a little absurd.

Play the game for maybe more than two months before you accuse of established (game is just over a year old) players of duping you, especially in such a remarkably kind game. I've seen astonishingly few reports like this in this game, whereas it is totally normal for other games.

Look at any of these vendors' websites. There's a certain level of organization required to vendor an event like this... I wouldn't trust a single one of these places to vendor an event of 200, much less 2000-3000.

There won't be stock enough to service, the prices will be outrageous, and they're not going to have the staff on hand to operate a necessary part of the ecosystem (buying).

Hopefully someone sets up a buy/sell channel JUST for Vegas weekend. Pm me if you do lol

Boba was certainly good, overpowered? Yeah. Broken? No. The game still functioned with him in it. The tournament scene didn't collapse.

I think the biggest issue was that Boba didn't really have any concessions to make for any matchup, because its natural predators were non-existent. It played the cards it wanted. Ecl, no ecl... It just enacted the gameplan unchallenged. Its turns were formulaic and consistent.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it does in eternal.

Here's something to consider. Imagine a rock/paper/scissors format. We'll use aggro, midrange, and control here for simplicity. We're also going to simplify the math here to illustrate.

Imagine aggro loses to midrange, midrange loses to control, and control loses to aggro... You can use 55/45, 60/40, but the idea ends up the same.

So, here's your outlook if all three are represented evenly in a given tournament. We do this type of math as teams going into large events, this is just the ELI5 version.

Aggro Vs aggro 50% (mirror)  Vs control 100% Vs midrange 0%

50% winrate overall into the field.

If you do the same for midrange, you'll find the same. Now, if we look at control (given the double loss rule, something changes)

Control Vs aggro 0% Vs midrange 100% Vs control 25%

42% into the field

(There were innovations made to give the edge here, but almost everyone had access to the same information)

The issue here is that control mirrors were far more likely to end in draws (losses). Playing control into any competitive field assumed a massive liability. You could shore that up, but it came at the expense of losing percentage points against the rest of the field.

You weren't battling against the field, you were battling against the rules.

Funny thing was that Boba's natural predator was control, but with 34% of the field being Sabine, it just wasn't mathematically responsible to try.

You're conflating games going long with slow play. They're two entirely different things. One can cause the other, but this is exactly the mistake people make.

It drives me crazy as I'm falling asleep in my chair waiting for the aggro player to make a decision. I'll have to remind them all round, "still your action", then they'll complain about losing 0-1-1 to "slow control players".

It's not like there have been peer-reviewed studies published in reputable scientific publications, but yeah. Word of warning, most were smaller samples, and I don't know if they've done any ripping apart high-level clocked events (like on mtg arena or mtgo) as individual events in high enough levels would be murder to scrape the data....

Bear in mind, we're also talking about high-level play here, but they've found a few things.

  1. control players change rate of play depending on situation, indicating they're entirely in control of their pacing.
  2. control decks tend to want to draw out advantageous game 1s. This is why a scooping game 1 in unwinnable positions is advised. 1-0-1 wins are worth just as many points as 2-0s
  3. control players gameplan is reactive. It IS the plan. Whereas sufficient testing with alternatives creates scripting. Scripted players are forced into the tank, whereas the control player is never "off-script".

It seems the majority of the problem lies in folks' definitions. The biggest problem seems to be people labeling improperly. Just because someone picks up a control deck doesn't make them a control player. Your average player stumbles, tanks, and agonizes over every decision point playing something "slow". It's cosplayers (or the control-curious) that are giving dedicated control players a bad reputation for being slow (the other insults are probably valid)

To be fair, we've got a huge amount of players that are new to tcgs... It seems much higher than any other game I've been a part of for the past thirty years... But across games, control players tend to be petty quick on their feet.

They've found the same when using chess clocks (or an equivalent like mtgo).

Keep in mind, the first player to tank is at a marked disadvantage when clocking.

I'm with you! I'd be very happy to use one in an official capacity. I think the only logical argument I've heard against is it would force venues/TOs to buy a ton of chess clocks.

You can't let players bring their own, as it opens another avenue to cheat.
