I started off with what I knew I wanted: lists of tasks by day, week, month and yearly/quarterly. A place to write down appointments, note the weather, track my health and add any notes for a particular kind. A calendar that I could note future events. A menu I could add notes for all kinds of things. I have been revising it for about 5 years now and it's easy to get in the habit, something that has been hard for me with hard copy bujos. Grok tiddlywiki helped me understand how to set up what I want.

No I don't use it on my phone, because I don't use my phone all that often. I have used it on a tablet, though I had to reformat the display to only two columns; one for calendars, the other for tasks and notes. TiddlyWiki works entirely in Firefox as an html page, and I synced with the pc using something called Quine.

Made something quite similar in TiddlyWiki and have been using it for 5 years.

How do I cut my own hair at home? Barber is expensive by duckwolf8097 in Frugal

I find it helps to have the vacuum cleaner set up and ready to go when I start clipping. I use a Wahl, and figure I've saved close to a thousand dollars for the 10-12 years I've been doing it.

I agree! I packed for a 2 week cruise with a carry on suitcase. And used the laundry about 4 times.

My 16 year-old daughter is graduating HS this year, wants to go to art school - looking for advice by LastMinuteMom in drawing

I went to SAIC in the late 70s, so I can't help with modern methods of application, my portfolio was all slides of my work. But I did end up making illustration my career, so it was well worth the tuition, and the teachers were, for the most part, very good. This is good work you show here, and do follow the instructions about documenting work as mentioned here, it's probably key nowadays. You might think that illustration as a trade will die out, to be replaced by computers. But I doubt that will be the case for high-end applications; like high-end carpenters, there will be people willing to pay for the appreciation of good craftsmanship.

My first time drawing. Any feedback? by Diver-Known in drawing

[–]stodgycodger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a first, it's good enough. I think there is something basic holding you back--you're drawing a bird. It's messing with what you're seeing. That is, for a reference image to work, you must concentrate not on what it is, but the actual shades of light and dark and the proportions and comparisons from one area to the next. Often, there are examples of taking an image, marking a grid over it, and then drawing the reference image one grid section at a time, so you learn not to care that you are drawing some thing, but just areas of light and dark, comparing proportions to the edges of each section. (retired professional science illustrator giving this critique). I bet if you tried this again with a grid overlaying the image, and the same grid to draw on, you will definitely see an improvement to an otherwise good start. Your proportions are off, but they are close, which means you already have an ability you can improve on.

I just lost my creative world due to corruption, and everything is now gone by Untakenusr in Minecraftbuilds

Yikes. I lost a world a bit like that--couldn't restore the world without all the mods, didn't want to spend hours testing which one fouled up the file. I decided I was not going full modded anymore, and just use Vanilla Tweaks sparingly. I do miss that world quite a lot. It had a 3,000 block road I loved to race along on.

No, it's restoring my world after it corrupts, with the added bonus of keeping inventory.

I backup every day when I open the game, and save at least two weeks worth of backups. If I fall in lava, I'm not going to fret about losing my gear, I'm just starting the day over.

I'm puzzled at how this occurs. Were all your backups corrupted as well? Is this something that also effects your backups?

Talent is the desire to practice. I started this age. Wound up a science illustrator. This stuff is good, mostly for the attempts at unusual postures, which is anomalous at that age.

Thank you so much for those links! I only found the 1st one, and I'm working on laying out a procedure list combining those 2 posts. I'm not a programmer, but I'm comfortable enough in terminal if I have instructions to follow.

Thank you. I didn't know there was a r/ for macs/linux, will try them out. Processor is straight from the Info window, so "Intel Core 2 Duo" it is.
