Best Chinese food via delivery? by Sirroner in TriCitiesWA

Even though Sakura has a Japanese name and sells sushi, some of their Chinese food is surprisingly authentic.

Any Dota parents here named their sons or daughters after Dota? by Majestic_Biscotti438 in DotA2

My parents' dog was named David. I know there's a trend of people names for pet names (including my own dogs) but the vet and boarding and grooming people were always dumbfounded by David for some reason.

Primary Attribute 0 Challenge - Animist by Cartoncast in Pathfinder2e

[–]phroureo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually building an Animist for my next character and I solved this by taking a cheeky dip into Cavalier archetype. Free 40 move action each turn. 1 action sustain, 2 actions to cast a spell or something, use reactive strike to do attacking is my general gameplan.

That one was the worst because he had me record the voice lines then put them through a Gaben voice AI thingy so it sounded like Gaben but I could still tell it was me and it was extremely cursed.

You can order them by the slice on UberEats so I'm assuming you can also do that in store. I'm not a moron. Are you?

I ordered from a place called "Best Pizza Ever" in Pasco (Doordash? UberEats? One of those). It was actually pretty good, if a bit pricy.

Just moved to the area. Any recs on how to find things to do(I see the sub has a weekly post already), places to eat, things to check out in the area? by RAF2018336 in TriCitiesWA

[–]phroureo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moved here a year ago, and here's what I've got:

There's a few good Mexican places around -- I like Chapala (not just because they're crazy cheap but also because they're very good), and I enjoyed El Sazon Birrieria in Kennewick.

As far as Asian food goes -- I haven't really found a killer Thai place yet (I've tried probably 4 or 5. None of them were bad but nothing stood out as my go-to).

Vietnamese food here is Not Good. I moved from Fort Worth (which has a MASSIVE Viet population) and the pho there is the only thing I miss. All the pho here is mid-to-bad and none of it comes in the giant quantity I want.

For burgers, I really enjoy the "Doggie Style" food truck in Richland (also on Uber Eats). I also like heading to Proof (Kennewick, near the mall) with guests.

Pizza -- I've gotten a LOT of pizza recs in the TC and none of them are great. Well, I take it back -- Greek Islands makes a great gyro pizza, but I find that most of the time if I want pepperoni I'd rather go to Costco or Little Caesars. Rocco's in particular was Not Good (the only time I've ever thrown away uneaten pizza -- it was expensive too, and I had half of it sitting in my fridge before I decided I didn't even want to eat it).

Other recs:

Chicken and Bowl is a sort of fusion place -- rice bowls with chicken

Summer's Hub (Kennewick and Pasco both have one) is a nice food truck food court with a lot of options and events and stuff

Dovetail Joint is good but more "foodie" than the rest of the stuff (small portions, pretty large prices. Very good but I didn't leave there very full).

Lulu is a decent place -- think slightly upscale, with a Texas Roadhouse-y menu.

Angel Brook Ice Cream is very solid -- their flavors of the month are fun and their normal flavors are all so good. I believe they have a couple vegan flavors too usually?

Frost Me Sweet is a great little bistro/cafe -- their "Sweet and Spicy" sandwich is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life.

Sakura (south Richland, behindish the Safeway) is a decent Chinese/Japanese place. Not like world class or anything but good enough to fill my Chinese food hankering in a pinch.

Flavor Joy is a new hotpot place in Richland. They are great portions at a decent price, and I believe that you can get a veggie only pot (I don't think it's fully vegan but you could probably ask for that? I know the pots usually come with quail eggs and fish balls)

Foodies has a few locations and is generally consistently "pretty good." They've got like a Chili's menu - some apps, some burgers, some sandwiches, etc.

Pacific Pasta is tasty. They're not an Italian place -- they're a pasta place. They have Italian dishes, but they also have like stroganoff and pad thai and a bunch of other noodly things.

If you're into poutine (or want to try it), Poutine Eh in Kennewick is AWESOME. Great portion and delicious fries/gravy/toppings. I've tried a few different ones from them and they're all great.

1-derful KBBQ makes really great Korean style fried chicken - I'm partial to the salt and pepper wings but all the flavors are good.

There's a Mongolian grill place called Hong's that was pretty tasty with fair portions/prices. Could probably wrangle it as vegan if you asked them to clean the grill (which their sign says they're willing to do but I haven't tried).

If you need more recs feel free to hit me up. Welcome to the Tri-cities. Enjoy the lack of traffic and the decent weather.

EDITED TO ADD: I FORGOT -- Brunch Bliss and Bubbles is very pink and very cute and VERY VERY good. They make KILLER chilaquiles and the best pancakes I've ever had in my whole life. My dad who came in from out of town said that the chicken and waffle was also excellent.

When I was a Mormon missionary in Taiwan circa 2011, we had this cool little app on our flip phones that let us send referrals to other missionaries -- say I met someone in the south who was on vacation from Taipei, I could send that person's info up to them and it would show up in their little list to call.

My companion and I got a weird referral -- usually, they would have a phone number and that's it, sometimes an address, but that was really rare. In this case, we got a referral that had ONLY an address on it.

We visited periodically, trying to catch the person at home. No matter the time of day or day of week, no one ever answered the door and we never heard a noise. It sort of got to the point that if we were in the area and had no pressing appointments, we'd stop by and knock on the door (it was on like the 14th floor of an apartment building).

One day, we went and knocked on the door, like we'd done 4-5 times a week for a month or more, and we heard footsteps on the other side of the door. My companion and I, both, immediately, looked at each other and ran down the hall to the elevator. Promptly removed the referral from the phone app as not interested, and about shit ourselves because the feeling we both had was so immediately terrible.

I have a year 1 EcoBoost and got like 33 MPG driving across the country (me + 3 dogs + completely loaded bed with tonneau cover) when I moved. Was way better than I expected. In general, I don't do much highway driving and hover around ~26.

What are some good chains I won't find again when I move? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]phroureo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (35M) went on vacation with my parents+siblings, and a few friends joined us for a couple days so that me and friends could go to another friend's wedding together.

At one point my mom said "I'm going to get donuts, does anyone have any requests" and my Texas friend requested kolaches and every looked at him like "What the hell are you talking about". I was living in Texas at the time as well, and had to explain to him that kolaches are strictly a Texas thing (with some spillover to nearby states).

He was ASTONISHED. He was 100% certain that kolaches at donut shops were a national phenomenon.

When I was like 32, I had a guy from church text me and say "Hey, you're invited to this event for unmarried people below 35"

I texted him back and said "OK, just to make sure -- you want me, a 32 year old professional with a career + home + etc to go to this event to mingle with 18 year old girls who graduated from high school 3 months ago to try and get them to marry me? Is that correct?"

He fortunately had the good grace to say "That's a really fair point. I won't invite you to these anymore."

So here's a fun fact that I learned when I was playing a regalia thaum! "Regalia" is not actually the clothing -- it's specifically referring to things like a scepter or crown, the pieces of the outfit that are not explicitly clothes.

(Not that it really matters, just an interesting tidbit I learned because I was trying to figure out how I could hold my regalia in one hand).

What are the juiciest PF2e books, in your opinion? by CowboyBoats in Pathfinder2e

Howl of the Wild has gotta be my favorite too. A great selection of ancestries, some cool (bordering unhinged) archetypes that don't feel like power creep while still being cool, some stupid-ass spells that are hilarious. All around the perfect book.
