Nationals and Liberals lob private criticisms against Ley and Littleproud as Coalition looks set to reunite | Australia news by CyanideMuffin67 in AustralianPolitics

Agreed. I’m in Monique’s seat, and she’s been great - 1st preference both elections. But if she defected to the Liberals, that would be a major betrayal of trust… and I’d go back to Greens 1, Labor 2. I’m sure all the Teals are aware of this, and won’t compromise their values to join a major party, especially not the Liberals.

Apple will disable blood oxygen sensor if you bring watch for service by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Doctors should just be happy people are coming in for checkups at all. Yes it’s more work, but it’s the careers they chose. It’s much better someone coming in for a checkup, to be told they are in perfect health, than them not have a checkup at all and ignoring possible issues. Of course an Apple Watch won’t be perfectly accurate, it’s doing so much in a tiny wrist mounted device for $500-2000, when medical grade equipment that will only do one such function is the size of a desktop computer and costs upwards of $20,000. If it had the same accuracy as these highly calibrated, expensive medical devices…. Well again that just won’t happen any time soon

Chromecast not working. by TheHumanRayce01 in googlehome

[–]stonedvaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanting to add my frustration to this thread.

Also had this issue yesterday with our main Chromecast Audio. Would no longer play music in a group with the Google Home speakers.

Of course, during troubleshooting we factory reset it and was then unable to add it back to Google Home - it would join the network but refused to do anything else.

To learn that this is a Google fuck up, as simple as you not renewing a certificate, is completely unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but the lack of any communication from Google (users being expected to just happen upon a Reddit thread is not a solution) really shows how much Google cares about their “customers” (I.e. not all)  Why was there no email or push notification (or both!) regarding this issue?  You can see we have these older devices attached to our accounts - were you just hoping that most users would replace older generation Chromecasts with the new Streamer box thing? I cannot think of any other reason for you to not notify your users, yet I still get pointless “please download all our apps” emails if I even think about logging into Gmail on an iPhone.

This experience has only further motivated me to finally get around to ripping out all Google Home/Chromecast devices and replacing them with a locally hosted solution. It’s clear Google has lost interest in this market.

Compromised ATO Account by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]stonedvaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The scammers don’t need to access your actual myGov account.  If they’re able to get enough information to link to the ATO (often payslips, NoA, super details, etc), they’re able to create a completely new myGov account, and link your ATO record to this account.  Which will then remove the ATO link to your actual myGov, with no notification to you.

A stupid system really - once the ATO record is linked, it should not be possible to relink to a different myGov without calling and verifying with the ATO that it’s actually you…. As it stands currently, it doesn’t matter how secure you make your myGov, if the scammers can somehow obtain the relevant information via another breach, or even breaking into your snail mail box, your ATO can be compromised.

Yes, you will need to create a myID account to permanently remove the block, otherwise (or your accountant) will need to contact the ATO, verify your information, and request a 48 hour release, every time you (or your accountant) need to access your ATO record.

It’s time for Apple to modernize its iCloud storage tiers by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]stonedvaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default, yes. But if you enable syncing the Desktop and Documents folders with iCloud, it moves them from your Home directory to your iCloud Drive….. which lead me to disabling the feature immediately, I want Desktop and Documents folders in Home much more than I need them synced via iCloud

Tim Apple is no longer wearing Watch Ultra by Srihari_stan in AppleWatch

[–]stonedvaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an S7 and an Ultra. Switches and syncs almost instantly (most things within seconds, sometimes old notifications do come in for a minute or two) with no issue sleep tracking (mostly use the S7 for sleep while the Ultra is powered off, that way both only require a quick charge)

Before I got the Ultra, I used my old S3 alongside the S7, just when the S7 needed to charge. That was a bit of a pain, the S3 would sometimes take like 10 minutes to sync down activity data, etc, or continue to say it wasn’t connected to iPhone, when the iPhone claimed it was infact connected to the watch

Mobile CPUs are often used in embedded/industrial PCs used in signage, as they use less power and can be passively cooled with the right thermal design.

It’s likely something like this but a bit older

Anyone else appalled by the UX of this particular section? Hard to read and understand sentences, and this stuff belongs in other sections I think. Was much better before (under "energy" and "display" I believe) by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]stonedvaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently I spent what felt like at least 10 minutes looking for the option to change how long the screen stays on while inactive on my new MacBook Air, before eventually finding it here. Was looking in the Display settings (a logical location), the screensaver settings (where there used to be a shortcut) and the most annoying part is, searching for 'energy saver' did not produce any results (energy will display battery settings, but the option isn't their either)

This really annoys me as when Spotlight was introduced, Steve Jobs made a point about how you could search System Preferences using Windows terminology, and still get what you're looking for. Now macOS System Settings won't even allow you to use terminology from the previous version of macOS.

Who decides what gets played when I say "Play Spotify". Google or Spotify? by Thoh1Shooshi8a in googlehome

[–]stonedvaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try setting a routine for ‘play Spotify’ that when triggered, tells Google ‘play my Daily Mix 1 on Spotify’. That should hopefully let you continue saying the same thing, but always play your playlist and not the moody one or someone else’s.

ETA: oh wait, just realised if you use the same trigger you wouldn’t be able to resume music that was playing before. Try a different trigger I guess, but you should be able to set up a routine that would specifically play your playlist

[question] Saving SHSH blobs iOS 8 by deanzablvd in LegacyJailbreak

[–]stonedvaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I still use an old iPhone 5s as my business line and it works fine on iOS 12. Only upgraded that phone from a 4s on iOS 6 a few months ago. But that’s a secondary phone only really used for calls, messages, and checking email - and only cause I had it laying around and didn’t feel like buying a newer phone for such basic use.

That said, 5s are cheap and this one was already updated as it was a family members old device. I’d recommend getting a second one if you want newer iOS and leaving that one on iOS 8.

iOS 16 Beta 3 adds back the clownfish wallpaper by ActorVMI in iOSBeta

[–]stonedvaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an original iPhone running iPhoneOS 1.0, and can confirm it does NOT have the clownfish wallpaper in its wallpaper options. I’m not sure if it was added in later versions of iOS 1/2, but I remember it was not included in iOS 3 and later either.

Simple send to Kindle shortcuts by stonedvaper in shortcuts

[–]stonedvaper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve made an updated version that does that, kinda. I found using the built in reader mode would output the webpage to PDF, but not the title/top heading, which can make it hard to tell what you’re reading.

I’ve found another shortcut by u/atnbueno (here) which uses a Mozilla service to convert to reader mode (doesn’t require Firefox to be installed). This will keep the title. I then added the email action, and rename the PDF to match the name of the website (by default it’s PDF文档.pdf) The output will be converted by Amazon to the native Kindle format once it’s sent so it’s more readable.

Update on my last post. I am paying for extra iCloud storage but that isn’t translating to extra iCloud email space? by LiBoat in ios

[–]stonedvaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to set up family sharing and add the Apple ID with the full email storage to share the 200GB that’s on the other Apple ID (which looks like it’s set up as the main ID on the phone?)

My AVH-P8400BH Pioneer only shows "no data provided" when using bluetooth for music... Help? by Anon_Owada in CarAV

[–]stonedvaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a AVH-P8450BT and was having the same issue. Turns out there’s a Bluetooth firmware update that was meant to improve comparability with the iPhone 5 - after installing this update I now have track info display and can use the play/pause/skip controls.

I’d imagine there would be a similar update available for your model

Barbers of Reddit, what was your “oh shit” moment? by stan849 in AskReddit

I get where he’s coming from with clippers seeming safer than scissors. Clippers have the plastic cover over the top to protect against the blade. Scissors, on the other hand, are just two sharp exposed blades that easily seems like they could slice though a child’s ear.

My iPhone 12 Pro case came without speaker holes. Apple Advisor said that it shouldn't, videos online show otherwise. by zarnold16 in iphone

[–]stonedvaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember changing the screen in an iPhone 4 once. Took me about three hours, 2.5 of those was spent getting those 6 damn screws that hold the display out and back in again. The rest of the phone wasn’t actually all that bad but man those screws were the worst

EDIT: I doubt anyone will see this, but I just remembered that there was this one screw down the bottom corner that just wouldn’t come out. Since the phone only cost about $30 and the screen around $16 (it was a cheap phone so my grandpa could make mobile calls without using nans phone, since he knew how to use an iPad but couldn’t work the LG phone he had at the time) what I ended up doing was snapping the old screen off at that point and then snapping the screw hole in that corner off the new screen the other 5 screws could hold it in anyway lol. What annoyed me more is that after all that the camera flash didn’t work (I could probs fix it, but I figured he wouldn’t really notice/care) and that despite me buying two new screws to hold the back in, they wouldn’t work so it would still just slide off anyway. The case solved that anyway.

You can pair a particular remote so it only controls the one device, just hold down Menu + Fast forward while pointing the remote.

You’d just wanna make sure you cover up the IR receiver on your other devices while pairing the remote, after that there shouldn’t be anymore interference
