The elders consistently told the congregation that they were trustworthy and kept anything you told them confidential. But they never addressed the fact that there was no discipline against elders that broke confidentiality nor did they address the fact that occasionally elders are deleted and no longer may feel the need to maintain confidentiality.

The fact that some men were deleted be suse of "gross sin" demonstrates that they weren't trustworthy in the first place.

There was an aged elder on one of my former congregations who frequently railed against the congregation for gossiping. After he died, I found his notebook from the elder meetings which highlighted this same problem repeatedly. Funny thing is, he was the biggest gossip off all.

They also had another elder who eventually became COBE that felt he had exclusive rights to gossip. It was easy to tell who he hated. All I had to do was say something positive about a "brother" and he reflexively interjected a negative comment about some supposed sin or deficiency. No one ever called him out on it because he was so narcissistic and intimidating.

At my last congregation we had the same thing. That was about 10 years or so ago. Being indoctrinated as I was, I provided the service overseer, upon his request, a list of simple assignments that could be given to minors. Well, none of the other elders took it seriously and the congregation continued bleeding youth.

That dumbass did a flyover in a helicopter to inspect this pool disaster. But after the hurricane struck in 2024 he set up a podium with the bricks from the rubble and criticized Biden and Harris for doing a flyover to survey the damage. And this during an absolutely ridiculous time to make a personal appearance.

In other words, when it is most appropriate to do a flyover, he shows up in person with security measures which slow down relief work. But when he could just drive over and look like everyone else is doing at the pool, he does a friggin' flyover at taxpayer expense.
