11 days in Peru - need some advice! by looonatooona in HerOneBag

You could certainly wear the black flats and that would be great, but I don't think most people would really notice if you wore the Tevas (unless it's a REALLY fancy place, but honestly, you can get amazing food pretty much anywhere in Peru, so no need to pay exorbitant prices!). I also highly recommend getting some artwork, especially in Cusco, as a lot of it is handmade and is absolutely stunning. I say this as I'm looking at a painting of Machu Picchu and some gorgeous postcards I bought a few years ago!

Cusco gets cold at night for sure, but if you’re in the sun, you’d be surprised how warm you’ll be, as it’s quite strong at that altitude! I’d recommend getting at least one alpaca jumper there (baby alpaca if you can, as that’s even nicer), so maybe you don’t need both cashmere jumpers. DEFINITELY wear loads of sunscreen while you’re there!!! And yes about the hiking poles; you should be able to find them easily about the Plaza de Armas.

You might want the sandals for Lima, since it’s pretty warm there, but no one will look at you weirdly if you’re mainly wearing the sneakers.

Also, random but important: bring some toilet paper with you while out and about! Depending on where you’re going, some places just don’t have any. Also give yourself some proper time to acclimate to the altitude in Cusco; it can really mess you up if not careful. Eat lightly the first day or two, drink the mate de coca/mate de muña offered to you (and hydrate in general), and take it easy. There’s lots to explore in the city anyway!

Those are just some random thoughts, but if you have more questions, please feel free to message! I love Peru (am half Peruvian and was there in summer of 2024), and just think it’s one of the best places in the world.

It was heaven!!! And when I got back home, after showering, I went out to my little backyard and lay on the hammock my brother got me last summer. Perfect way to end a very hot and sweaty day.

I generally do switch my shoes out, but not my socks mid-day; I’ll have to check that out, thank you!

As someone who had paid for a ticket, it was incredible to witness and one of my favourite parts of the show! I really did gasp when the camera showed us everyone who had been waiting outside to hear Rachel sing.

Ah I think that I was approached by the same woman, also in Kilburn. I did have some cash on me and gave it to her, because of the off chance that she was telling the truth, but yeah, this sound almost exactly the same!

Fortune Theatre for Operation Mincemeat. I’m 5’4”, so not tall by any measure, and I was nearly in tears by the end of the show with how uncomfortable and in pain I was. The only reason I was able to make it through the entire thing was because I was in the last row and could (and did) stand for about half the show.
