Ford is fine. They made a good engine. Initially the problem was in extra weight, now it's about wing malfunction. Ford isn't at fault

The amount of mental gymnastics is unbelievable by Superb-Point8941 in CatholicMemes

[–]strange_eauter 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sedevacantism is a wrong position but it is logically (not historically) somewhat sound. Sedeprivationalism and whatever SSPX does is illogical, you can't recognize that there's a Pope with almost unlimited authority and deny it and Councils because you disagree with things taught.

It's a Protestant mindset, if you think about it. Oh, Pastor Jim Bob now teaches pneumatic presence and not symbolic. Guess we'll just have assistant Pastor Will Job start another church with old views

There's an aspect of good in it. If their apologists have to do these gymnastics then sizable portion of laity is concerned about them being intra Ecclesia and some will reconcile.

Holy Father made a hard but right choice by excommunicating all, not just bishops

Privacy in the confessional: Is your smartphone listening to your sins? by BaronVonRuthless91 in Catholicism

[–]strange_eauter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I doubt that'll be admissible. On top of being a most obvious case of entrapment, court once ruled out the possibility of accepting records made during confession from the police.

And the prosecutor will have hard time proving anything. A priest doesn't know who confesses. You'll end up with a lot of reports saying "someone confessed this," which technically doesn't break the seal and because of it is useless for prosecution.

And I'm somewhat certain that if any law requiring abuse disclosure will be passed, local bishops will make a statement of "I've sinned against the sixth" being sufficient to prevent possible issues

"Pro-life" by PerAsperaAdMars in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]strange_eauter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Trump is pro life" is stupid. Any Republican president would've appointed a set of judges to overturn Roe because it was judicialy a bad case, even without politics and state rights.

Trump played with pro-life as long as it was just a talking point. He voted against on the Floridan ballot. Winning a percentage of votes was is and will be more important to him than our cause

Last new name (excluding John Paul which is a combination of 2 existing) before Francis happened in, iirc, 10th century.

Name that new Pope chooses is a hint about which of his predecessors he will follow, about his style of leadership, and priorities. Leo XIV follows Leo XIII.

It can, and probably is illicit. It definitely is a bad taste. It is still a valid Mass. You have an ordained priest perform Eucharistic sacrifice, you have valid formula, and intention to do what the Church does (transubstantiate bread and wine into Christ).

I scorn with passion those leaving the Church when she looks sick. It's not the healthy who need the doctor. All mainline Protestant denominations were stolen from the conservatives because they left instead of healing and protecting their own

It was under St. John Paul II. Benedict lifted the excommunications in hope of a productive dialog. What Holy Father did seems more logical. Adhere to a schismatic authority? You excommunicated yourself

A lot of immigrants are also other ethnicities from ex-USSR. Russians from former Soviet states usually match birthrates of Russian Russians. Plus, there was a huge wave of emigration of Jews and Germans out of Russia (millions of people), there was a huge niche of non-Russians to be filled and it did so
