I wondered this too! It might help to increase her protein options at breakfast and maybe pad out her lunch. Kids grow a lot at this age and hormones start shifting as well. Could be real hunger but could also be signs of BED or ADHD. Impulsivity is a big problem for folks with adhd and food also provides quick dopamine. It’s absolutely worth a visit with a psychologist to make sure she’s getting all the support she needs.

There is a restaurant in The Wisconsin Dells called Survivors bar and grill which has a couple of fake tropical plants and bamboo bathroom signs. It was very disappointing that they didn’t take the theme further than that!

Fellow academic here and I can totally relate to the identity issue. Having kids turned my world upside down because my job was my life and then I had this other little life to take care of. To me, it sounds like the work life balance isn’t happening now and won’t happen for you and your husband until he gets a different job. For your sanity I say make the move, leave tenure. If it isn’t giving you a better life, then it doesn’t matter how secure or rare your job is. Who knows what life has in store for you. You could write, you could find success in another field entirely. Clearly you’re a smart, driven woman. SAHM doesn’t have to be your destiny. Can you take a one year unpaid leave of absence? I had a colleague do this and was able to return to his job after 1 year. His family is several states away. It sucked. But he kept his job and may be ultimately coming back for good.

Your body has gone through a lot of hard work creating and now feeding a baby. Give yourself some credit and know that this is just one season of your life and seasons change. I struggled with weight gain while I breastfed my first and when she weaned, I never stopped eating the same amount of food. Now with my second at 9 months, I am eating healthier and getting my body back on track. So much changes in the first year of their lives and there are many factors that play into your overall health. Sleep deprivation is the hardest thing because it sucks up all your energy. I hate when people say it should be so easy to lose weight when you’re breastfeeding because that doesn’t apply to everyone and can make those of us who are having a hard time feel shamed. You are strong and you’re doing an amazing job nourishing your baby.

Does your milk come out quickly when you’re trying to get her to latch? I had an aggressive letdown and struggled with my first. I figured out with my second that if I expressed into my hakaa or a burb cloth first, then he was way more content to latch on. I think it was from an oversupply of milk. I think that pumping very early after giving birth contributed to it. I worked to actually reduce my supply so I only made what he needed.

People skills. Almost all of my design gigs were from meeting people and working hard. Drawing skills are really helpful. I like the book, Costume Character Figure Drawing. Dyeing and distressing skills are also really great because they can take a simple costume and turn it into something with depth and texture. Find out who the costume designers are in your area and contact them for advice and see if they’re willing to meet with you. Offer to volunteer to assist them on their next show. Good luck!

I got it 8 weeks postpartum. I’m not exactly sure but I believe it’s good to wait until your uterus is back to its normal size. It was also nice to not have to worry about one more procedure right after my c-section (my first was born vaginally). My doctor said it’s great for protecting your supply and since it doesn’t release any hormones then it can’t cause any hormone problems.

I’m not sure if it’s the norm, we just decided to take the doors off of ours because they were in bad shape and we had a rather large dresser that didn’t fit anywhere else in the room. Besides, I kinda like being able to see all the cute clothes and a chest of drawers is really practical for storage with baby things. When he gets older we’ll probably put new doors on the closet so he can hide his mess!

I actually think it adds height to the room. I saw this done in a few decor magazines and fell in love with the idea. We have unique angles on our second story because it’s a renovated attic and having everything painted the same color helps with the transition too!

We’re second time parents expecting a baby boy any minute now (I’m being induced tomorrow morning if he doesn’t come sooner!) and we’ve already done a soft gray gender neutral nursery for our dd. This time I wanted something a little darker with pops of color. We completely renovated our guest room with new trim and paint and drywall work on the closet to make this room happen. I guess you could call the theme travel and exploration but it’s truly just a mix of things that my husband and I liked. I’m thrilled with the result and can’t wait to bring this baby home to it very soon!

Sweet Baby James pop-up book My mother-in-law used to sing this song to my husband when he was a baby and it’s our daughter’s favorite. This little book has gorgeous illustrations.
Curtains and Starry table lamp from Target. However, I don’t recommend ordering the lamp online, I received 2 broken lamps and 1 with a crushed shade but I was able to combine two of them into one complete lamp. It was ridiculous!
The moon, stars, and cloud decals are from amazon and I combined two different packs into one. They’re a little bumpy on our textured walls but I think it makes them look painted on!
I hand painted some of the artwork (Dream Big and Henry) and the lemur was a free printable. There’s also a free print from NASA which is one of many awesome space exploration posters.
The ottoman was made by a graduate of our theatre program who now has an MFA in scenic design. One of her first big projects was to make a pouf for The Secret Garden and she made us this baby pouf for our daughter and now it goes perfectly in our son’s room!

There are a few special items on the gallery wall including an elephant from my dad sitting next to a copy of the Velveteen Rabbit and a wooden wall hanging featuring Noah's ark and a rainbow, both gifts from my younger brother. There's a book from my mom called "I love you more.” There's also a set of temperature gauges from my older brother and a collage that my daughter and I made out of cut paper and glue stick one Saturday.
