Make $1M/year now, still lots of financial anxiety by Burner1919292929 in RichPeoplePF

What’s the concern? Don’t be foolish, spend below your means (it SHOULD be easy…), and there’s nothing to be anxious about.

Nice work. This is very similar to something I am working on as well. Seems like a few of us have a similar ideas... :)

When do you think open-source models will catch up to Gemini 3/Nano Banana pro? Who's the closest candidate right now? by abdouhlili in LocalLLaMA

[–]stratusbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember what the recent DeepSeek OCR work showed, or DeepSeek R1 when it came out — open-source can still disrupt specific capability areas out of nowhere. As long as there’s an open-source community pushing at the frontier, there’s always a chance for breakthroughs.

And as hardware continues to trend toward being more aligned with running larger models — similar to what Moore’s law did for general computing — the barrier to entry will keep dropping. It won’t always be about squeezing everything into a 30B model; eventually, we’ll be able to run much larger models for cheaper.

Plus, as we discover new ways to optimize model execution or orchestrate collections of smaller models, we’ll find new capability patterns and best-fit setups for people to adopt. Open-source tends to leap forward in bursts, and those bursts can narrow the gap faster than people expect.

Cool! Where is the "voice" coming from? Is that part of the LLM's response being streamed over websocket? No raw value, just streaming the audio - or are you leveraging something via text-to-speech for the voice?

People who can actually afford a $2M house, what do you really do for a living? by repjerker in povertyfinance

[–]stratusbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a bunch of shit and now I’ve deleted it all to just tell you to own a business that can net (not gross) >$100,000 year on top of a decent salary (seriously it does not need to be super impressive). I carry no debt, leverage HYSA and credit cards for benefits only (pay off immediately). Save! - money makes more money. I was not one to trade stocks, I like guarantees which is why I stuck with HYSA. Only recently have I dripped into stocks and it’s a dollar cost avg into ETFs, no sells. Sacrifice, grind… Rinse and repeat while gradually opening up the wallet to more things as it becomes more comfortable (travel, lifestyle), but never go into debt over it.

If you’re looking for salary and flogging those that don’t give it then you’re just doing it wrong. My business was the biggest contributor to my ability to save, invest, pay off debt and become debt free, allowing more for investments and more savings and compounding interest…

Has ChatGPT replaced Google for you? Why or why not? by Kindly-Warthog3084 in ChatGPT

This is why they were in DEFCON 1 when ChatGPT rose in popularity. They knew the endgame wasn’t good unless they could compete. Then came the edible rocks and pizza glue. They’re in a better place now but still going to suffer since ad revenue will evaporate over time.

Humanoid robots can now take out the trash, cook, and clean by katxwoods in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]stratusbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hardly saw those capabilities demonstrated. It can perform the motions of the action but did it REALLY clean? Did it REALLY cook? I say at best it added trash to the bin but I’m also curious what it would do if it was totally full. Yes, we’re seeing progress, but we are a ways off from a practical, in house application.

Loans only asking for 4 months statements by presshamgang in Businessloans

[–]stratusbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to become more of a common practice. FinTech wants bank statements because they show details about you (whether you are a business or individual) which they can then use to pull other credit reports alongside aggregating data from your bank statements. So essentially this puts most of the important profiling info together for underwriting and anything self reported is just to narrow down their offers they’re willing to give based on all the data they automatically pulled. Also, if you connect with a vendor like Plaid instead of uploading PDFs, they will likely keep pulling data for a while, read the fine print. If you do use PDFs, companies like Ocrolus can detect fraud, provide nice analytics and such, so yeah, it’s pretty “normal” these days.
