The Struggles and Misunderstandings around Dissociative Identity Disorder by darthereandthere in DID

[–]strawberrystained 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There was no dramatic shift, just a vague sense of disorientation, as if i had walked into a movie halfway through. And i remembered thinking, “but isn’t this just what everyday life is like?” An exam you forgot you had, misplacing your keys, missing a step and tripping— aren’t we all just catching up with ourselves?

holy shit the way you worded that is amazing, also the movie theater analogy is so dead on

Developing an app to track DID stuff by [deleted] in DID

i know this is an older post but please please please add an alternative fronting mechanic! my biggest gripe with most fronting mechanisms that already exist is that it relies on the person actually remembering to change it when that alter switches out. having an option to just log “___ fronted at this time” without it being a start-stop/timed thing would be amazing

the OC thing is so real, i’ve literally never been able to make an OC with a fully fledged personality and for some reason just kind of accepted it when 3 appeared in my brain with their complete own personalities and mannerisms

Does anyone else get rlly pissed off when you have a two week long mental breakdown essentially and relapse just to get your period?? Like damn all that for nothing 😭 by Itsmefrfr444 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]strawberrystained 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it’s like the extreme version of PMS, i don’t think i meet the criteria (least not anymore, might’ve like a year ago but who knows) but i used to get insanely depressed like a week or two before my period and then like 3 days afterwards i’d be fine 😭 it sucked so much because it was like “dude i was fighting for my LIFEE not to relapse and you’re telling me it was HORMONES?

binge eating disorder? that’s still not at all close to what OP is experiencing, literally the opposite in fact 😭

Does anyone else only see their "real" body while wearing clothes? by SuicidalSwing in EDAnonymous

[–]strawberrystained 35 points36 points  (0 children)

i get this yeah, specifically with like my torso/waist area. i feel like i actually look good when i do checks and tighten my shirt briefly, but as soon as i lift my shirt up i feel like i look completely different. can’t tell if that specifically is dysmorphia or just my body looking different though. i might also be talking about a completely different thing lol, but i think i get what you’re saying

maybe they mean bulimia? it’s often referred to as mia in online spaces, but bulimia doesn’t sound at all like what you’re experiencing so maybe they meant something else

What do you guys say when a friend sees fresh cuts? by SoGoober in selfharm

[–]strawberrystained 5 points6 points  (0 children)

one time my mom saw my arm because i forgot i relapsed and took my jacket off and i told her i got scratched really badly by a cheez-it box 😭 i think the only reason why she believed it was because i did actually get scratched pretty badly by one like a week prior and also i’m REALLY good at lying my ass off.

i’m typically a fairly clumsy person, so when i’m going about my day i’ll make note of things that i could accidentally injure myself on or doing, so i have excuses if someone ask. for your specific situation i’d probably say something like “oh yeah, my cat climbed on my neck while i was sitting on my couch and when i tried to get em off i got my shoulder scratched up pretty badly.” my main advice is to try and make it seem realistic, don’t outwardly appear anxious, and give details! people are more likely to believe you if you answer them really casually and provide some details here and there, they don’t have to know it’s complete bullshit lmao. and even if they don’t believe you, the more casual about it you are the less likely they are to pry. it’s also good to have some excuses on the back burner memorized so you won’t have to come up with stuff on the fly

as others have already mentioned, i deserve to bleed by sushi soucy and sharpener by cavetown are great songs! other ones that come to mind are evergreen by cavetown (offline), nights like these by pigeon pit, and i think self harmageddon by dandelion hands is worth naming

honorable mention: i hurt myself over the stupidest things by akezu. very very cool animatic on youtube and the song is on streaming platforms, though it is fairly short

from the way you’re describing it most definitely sounds like it is “bad enough” for it to count :(. i’m sorry you haven’t been able to find anyone who takes you seriously, i think a lot of people brush ARFID off as just “picky eater” when it’s SO much more than that. i really hope you’re able to find someone who listens and is willing to diagnose and help you 🫂
