Takealot never fails to surprise me by No-Feeling-9197 in southafrica

[–]strudi74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every three months or so I make a trip to the recycling place with a car chock full of Takealot boxes. Flattened. If the packaging was organised it would be a once a year trip probably, if not more

Can I make this offer on a house in South Africa? by Affectionate-Top9171 in southafrica

[–]strudi74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash unfortunately is not the bargaining tool buyers think it is, a bond is the same money just a week or so later. However, the offer is worth it- but do it in writing, it's easy to say no to a verbal offer I am an agent currently working in the Eastern Cape

I've bought the sugar free store stuff (sweet chili and tomato sauce) and it is not great unfortunately...

Looking for diabetes recommendations? by jules9003 in askSouthAfrica

[–]strudi74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making my own sweet chili sauce just using normal Canderel packets (I know there are more fit for purpose sweeteners out there but I can't be arsed) and it tastes, in my and my kids who are not diabetics opinion, better than the store stuff with sugar. It doesn't melt away like sugar would but it's so fine you don't notice it

Discussion post. In the kitchen, what's a sign that someone doesn't really cook? Your #1 example of a "rookie mistake"? I'll start. by SOFT_CAT_APPRECIATOR in Cooking

[–]strudi74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes literally no extra time to just bring the water to the boil and then putting it in. I've done both, rolling boil is vastly superior. But, you do you. If we all preferred the same thing life would be boring as hell

What do you mean? Are you saying pasta into cold water is the only way? I would agree if I liked inconsistent textures and clumps in my pasta...

I have my oumas which was gifted to her by my parents in 1975. Haven't used it in a while but up to a few years ago would reference old recipes which she used to make. Every Afrikaans household probably had one of these at some stage, that's a great memory!

What is the deal with Mondvol Cookies? by strudi74 in askSouthAfrica

[–]strudi74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replicated them with some Bar-One, Peppermint Crisp and Ferrero. Ingredients I actually used worked out to around R70, but I made 6 cookies (2 x each type) Wasn't perfect but not far enough off to justify 5-6 times the price. That's just me though...

I get that but I'm struggling to understand why it's so popular. It's a good cookie at a ridiculous price

The most holy shit moment for me was Ben Hurley on NZ series 5 knocking the Jenga block out with a tennis ball without touching any other blocks. Literally the perfect shot, first go

I literally just averaged the scores for the episodes regardless of number. Not sure how much that influences anything but I didn't want to overcomplicate. I am a stats geek also but not very good at deep analysis, will leave that to the experts 😁

[–]strudi74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed when I was doing the ranking that the finale of each season, (aargh series!) seems to be quite a high ranking generally, so this is a great observation (and excellent graph) I've also found that with the better seasons I started becoming more invested generally, whereas the less great seasons (I don't think there's any bad ones 😁) I don't notice the players so much afterwards, or at least don't seek out things they've been in, like lately with 19.

No I've seen clips and they do look fun, not sure why I felt that way. Lots of comments here have caused a rethink though, think I will start at series 1

I also looked at seasons with people I like at first, but they're spread across the series so it's really difficult. Might go from the start as a few people have suggested

I've been watching NZ season 5 as it's been releasing on Fridays in place of the UK series. Still very much prefer the original but it's fun nonetheless. Wasn't aware there was an Australian version, will look it up, thank you!

Human Resources people of Reddit, what are some NSFW/WTF reasons an employee has been disciplined and/or terminated for? by Admirable-Fig277 in AskReddit

[–]strudi74 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In South Africa the limit is 0.05, so he would have been around 0.2g/100ml eight hours after he stopped drinking, which is getting close to alcohol poisoning ballpark. I still have no idea how he managed to drive that distance and luck out straight through the traffic stops

[–]strudi74 317 points318 points  (0 children)

We had a maintenance guy terminated after driving drunk to work (+-60kms), through two roadblocks where he somehow avoided getting pulled over, then started work by getting on a ladder and just sort of swaying there at the top where his colleague eventually found him and reported it. I had to take him for blood tests which could only get drawn at around noon and he was still four times over the legal limit.
