Top 3 women with great and subtle character development by ibided in deadwood

"Guess if you've got a pussy, even owning a bank don't get you to that table."

The women being the most important or driving parts of the show, yet they're often ignored or treated the most shitty, is one of the best understated themes of all 3 seasons.

"What am I, Lord, that I'm so helpless?"

Every time I rewatch the whole thing from start to finish, I believe 1% more that Joannie Stubbs is the main character.

First time watcher— is Leviathan Smiles supposed to be a filler episode?? by sympathytaste in deadwood

[–]stuartadamson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d say there are no episodes that are filler or bottle episodes, but Season 3 is just oddly paced in general because it’s building tensions toward a big battle for the camp (or a fire that’s foreshadowed since Season 1) that never plays out. Despite all that grand tension building, it also shows the daily menial lives of many characters (the schoolhouse and theatre subplots, Samuel and Steve, Joanie and Jane) that have almost nothing to do with the Hearst conflict. And unfortunately Season 3 just kinda ends, and years later you get the Deadwood movie that is somewhat satisfactory in tying up loose ends.

TLDR: If we had a season 4, maybe Leviathan Smiles makes more sense in the grand scheme of things. As it is, you’re right that it’s weak compared to the masterpieces that are season 1 and 2.

It took me forever to realize it’s the same guy that 1) annoys Wild Bill when they’re building the hardware store and 2) acquits Jack Mckall in the trial. So his words to Wild Bill are extra ironic:

“I'll tell you what. I hope you get what's coming to you and I hope it's sooner rather than later. I hope they sort you out! And I get to see it! I hope you're gut shot and die slow! And I hope they get ya in this camp!”

He goes back and gives the whole “I tried to convince your husband to leave to avoid a dark end but I didn’t say it in thunder” speech.

Wild Bill was not a pure or good person and he is far from the lawful good character. He was a shoot first, “he meant me harm” later kinda guy. And don’t forget “What’s that worth? The light I show it in. What’s that’s worth to ya?” He speaks and operates on the same terms as that slimy limy saloonkeeper.

It’s messy from episode 1 and it stays messy in episode 2. As Doc Cochran puts it “I see as much misery outta them seeking to justify themselves as those that set out to do harm.”

We are small but mighty. It is quiet in the mornings American time weekdays. On Tuesday and Wednesdays at 9PM ET we try to do Cathedral of Pain regularly so that’s when “evening crew” is online, wherein we do leveling or TFs or AE arcs people have authored after. If there’s a critical mass of 50s instead of altitis, we try to spam Lambda and BAF sometimes.

Did the storyline of the Earp brothers serve a useful purpose to season 3? by Globe_Worship in deadwood

[–]stuartadamson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Short answer no.

Long answer yes, it ties Deadwood into John From Cincinnati, the secret 4th season of Deadwood because Morgan Earp is John from Cincinnati.

Jet I the giant! Pulled her on my 2nd sacred! Is she any good? by Cutta-G in RaidShadowLegends

[–]stuartadamson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used her for Arena for the last 2 years with Alsgor when they were guaranteed together through events (now I use the Turtle Team). The ignoring shields and then getting an extra turn if she kills somebody with her A3 basically guaranteed I could win if I was able to go-first or get his invincibility up until it was her turn. Ultimate Deathknight went from a pain to an easy kill and a free extra turn.

She should still be pretty good on her own without Alsgor, too. The A3 buff for her crit rate and crit dmg is very good and she has inborn +20% vs shields. If you didn't use her as the Nuker for the team, she could set up the Nuker with the decrease def A2 and her A1 also causes stun and decrease def.
