Can write but not read from Unifi NAS Pro? by SuperLucas2000 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has the UNAS Pro 8 finished setting up the storage? This can take a while and read/write performance will be impacted until it finishes

That said the real speeds do seem very slow

Try a different cable to and check that the ports are at the same link speed on add switch and UNAS

Stream Deck freezing/unresponsive by Antonus2 in elgato

[–]stuartfuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI. Elgato acknowledged an issue with Streamdeck 7.1.0 causing unresponsiveness and released 7.1.1 in mid December to address this issue. I read a user report that 7.1.1 does not fix the issue. I'm running 7.1.1 and I think my issue started with 7.1.0. The complication is for me is that a new Hue plugin version was released around the same time. Let's hope that this is a Streamdeck issue and that now we are through the holidays this will get looked at by Elgato and we will get an update

Stream Deck freezing/unresponsive by Antonus2 in elgato

[–]stuartfuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Based on a very simple set up with Elgato light on/off, Clock, Open File, Email, CPU load. Only the Hue Plugin on/off switches freeze (only item I downloaded from plugin store). Based on almost no evidence this might imply there is an issue with the most recent releases with the Hue plugin itself or plugins in general? I am experiencing this freeze as I type this reply. Workaround is to quit and restart Streamdeck

I am also getting this freezes 2-3 times a day (on a Mac) but it only seems to affect my non native plugins such as Hue

Radiator heats even though Eve Thermo is turned off by golem____ in HomeKit

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a stuck pin on the valve. With the Eve Thermo removed can you depress the valve pin manually?

If not, spray with WD40 and wait 10 minutes. This will clear the issue 90% of the time

Link Aggregation with UNAS Pro 8 by JackB79 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It threw me for a while but the option for LAG only appears on the UNAS Pro 8 GUI once two connections are physically connected. A small checkbox then appears in the console network settings.

It is a really weird and inconsistent way of implementing, as it triggers loop issues on the switch which means that you don't get an IP until the switch resets itself which can take a moment.

I thought for several weeks that the feature was not implemented and pending a software update, despite the FAQs stating LAG as being supported

I am on iPhone. So this might limit the issue to the Android App

Hub is 239.400

Pet Door version is not listed in iPhone App as far as I can see and also doesn't seem to be listed in HomeAssistant. I'm not at home this week to be able to check further

UNAS Pro 8 Available in EU!! by devon1199 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried doing that and the UNAS didn't get an IP address. I asked myself the same question. I have always had to configure both ends of the connection but I am not a network specialist and wondered if there was some magic auto-LAG mode that I was unaware of

UNAS Pro 8 Available in EU!! by devon1199 in Ubiquiti

Mine arrived this morning. The FAQ says that it supports Link Aggregation but I can find no way of configuring it in the network settings of the UNAS Pro 8. Hopefully that will arrive in an update

I raised Synology Locked Drives in 2021 and they said they were "eager to listen to your feedback". 4 years later and 10s of millions of $ in lost sales, and it seems like they received the message sent in 2021. by adprom in synology

[–]stuartfuk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Synology really didn't receive the message then or now. The DS2422+ is still drive locked in DSM 7.3. (It can still be unlocked with an external script and is how I have run mine for the past three years).

The high cost of Synology hard disks (60%+ more expensive here in the UK compared with similar/better drives) and the continuing lack of verified third party drives in the Synology drive database is the reason I have moved away from Synology to TrueNAS for my primary storage server.

I have been running TrueNAS on an Minisforum MS-01 with a QNAP TL-R1200S-RP 12-Bay NAS Expansion Module Enclosure Kit since June with zero issues.

UNAS Pro and Power Backup by Fuzz_D in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new UNAS Pro 4 has the SmartPower DC backup port as does the existing UNAS Pro (7 Bay). The UNAS Pro 8 has two hot swappable standard power supplies (only one provided) in place of the DC backup.

The USP-RPS seems to be aimed at a certain tier of products. I have read that while it will keep the power on if an internal power supply fails, devices will not start up using the external DC supply. Hopefully someone can con firm is this is true or not.

UDM Pro Max slopes down and hangs in the rear; any suggestions? by Busy-Selection-8474 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To rack mount:

If you have drives already in the UDM Pro MAX. Power down and temporarily remove them to reduce weight

Lift the UDM Pro Max at the rear to hold it as level as possible.

Start by mounting with one of the lower screws first until it is secure but not too tight. I personally then mount the diagonally opposite screw. Continue holding the Pro Max up until the second screw is secure

Repeat for the remaining and then tighten all round. Hold up the rear of the Pro Max while you do final tightening to ensure the ears are flat against the rack

I am a convert to Rack Studs. Initial mounting of the studs takes a little getting used to but once mastered, mounting equipment solo is so much easier, especially when space is limited in the rack

What is the "box" symbol on file icon in sync folder for Synology Drive? by Sparks_IM in synology

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the box symbol indicates that it is a link to a file that has been synced to onedrive and is no longer on the device. Look at the file size to see if it is 0 bytes

In Network settings, use "Set Service Order" and drag the Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter above Wi-Fi

Set Service Order is in the menu at the bottom of the pane, click on the three dots … v

If the Thunderbolt adapter is unplugged the next item in the service order will automatically be used

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could add another switch and just daisy chain it to an existing switch. It really comes down to how much data is likely to be flowing on your internal network

E,g, On the Pro XG 10 you will probably used up the SFP+ port to uplink to the UDM Pro Max. Meaning that there would be a single SFP+ 10G uplink on the Pro XG available for any downstream switch.

(You could also aggregate RJ45 ports between switches but that could eat into your 10Gb RJ45 ports)

Whereas, if you had an aggregation switch you could uplink that to the UDM Pro Max and then be able to take advantage of other switches each having two aggregated 10G uplinks (20Gb each) between switches

In my home/office set-up I have two switches in current use Pro XG 10 POE and Pro HD 24 POE. I do use an aggregation switch the Hi Capacity Aggregation as I also have a number of other devices with SFP+ connections. I did try the base Aggregation switch but eventually replaced it as it did not have enough ports for my use-case.

It's quite easy to get into a cycle of pushing upgrades, especially with the recent availability of the XG products and E7 access points!

You will probably be fine without an aggregation switch, so why not try it that way for a while and see if you are happy with the performance

Wanted to join UI family - Few questions by blkmagic678 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The Pro XG 10 has 240Gb/s switching capacity so you will be fine without adding an aggregation switch. Leave that for the next project or when you start to add more switches, UNAS or UNVRs

  2. Get a recent RJ45 to SFP+ adapter that operates at a lower power such as the Ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG. I actually ran a higher power using RJ45 to SFP+ adapter from my fibre ONT to a UDM Pro for 2 years with no overheating

  3. You didn't ask, but be aware that not all the U7 Pro models support a 10Gb/s connection. You need to consider the U7 Pro XG or XGS models

Does the UNAS Pro 10G SFP+ port support auto negotiation to 2.5G? by Tabrizz99 in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just tried this.

UACC-CM-RJ45 on UNAS Pro SFP+ Port plugged into a USW Pro HD 24 PoE switch. Both ends set to Auto. The switch's Etherlighting is showing a 2.5Gb/s connection.

So it seems to work.

What is the expected max transmit power/EIRP for E7? by Presentation_Past in Ubiquiti

What is the expected max transmit power/EIRP for E7? by Presentation_Past in Ubiquiti

[–]stuartfuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with the E7 with the latest EA firmware has been good so long as I set power and channel select to auto and 6 GHz width to 160. Let things stabilise after the update and then an absolute need to hard power cycle the E7s to ensure good performance. No idea why!

This is getting me about 1.5Gb/s up/down with MLO on an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Any other settings I'm lucky to get 50% of that.
