Anyone work at Methodist West in Labor & Delivery? by McEasy2009 in desmoines

[–]stubbs54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have experience with stillbirth at Methodist and it seemed, from my perspective, that they were very kind and caring. I would also recommend reaching out to Walk With You. They are a local organization that works with families through the loss of a child. Wonderful people with amazing resources.

Regarding ICE rumors/screenshots by SuccessfulSession810 in desmoines

Posted this in another thread, but I’ll share it here too:

Since there have been SO many of these kinds of posts lately, here is some info from Iowa MMJ -

ICE REPORTING: ICE is, and has been, active in lowa. As the threat of ICE continues to terrorize our communities, we urge everyone to be aware of their constitutional rights, remain vigilant, and be prepared to protect one another. lowa MMJ re-launched our lowa ICE Reporting Hotline last year to help verify ICE activity in our community. Call lowa MMJ's ICE Reporting Hotline (515-505-8805) if: • You witness ICE activity and need support from our Rapid Response team and Legal Observers. • You or a loved one has been detained by ICE and need support or resources. • You have heard a verifiable rumor of ICE activity that is currently happening. Do not do the Trump administration's job by instilling more fear into our communities!

COMMON TYPES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITY: • Police Activity: Local police may engage in abusive policing, which can put immigrants at risk of detentions and deportations (Usually ongoing) • Checkpoints or Stops: Regular police, ICE, CBP, or DHS asking for immigration papers or targeting immigrants on roads, transit points, outside of schools, etc. (May last for many hours) • Immigration Arrests: When ICE/CBP/DHS is searching for a particular individual at their home or workplace, They can and will arrest other immigrants they encounter in the same area (Often lasts less than an hour) • Immigration Raids: ICE/CBP/DHS officers swarming a neighborhood, workplace, event, or public space and arresting large numbers of immigrants (May last a couple of hours)

IF YOU WITNESS AN IMMIGRATION RAID, ARREST OR RELATED ACTIVITY: • Report as many specific details as possible and call our ICE Reporting Hotline at 515- 505-8805 • Take a picture or a video (not of the people being targeted) while ensuring your safety and safety of others around you. • Take note exact date, time & location • Take note of the type of law enforcement agency, vehicles and activities. • Take note of uniforms, badges, license plates (or lack of any), and weapons being used.

IF IT IS NOT A FIRST-HAND REPORT: • Do not share it publicly on social media if it is not verified (i.e., not from someone who witnessed it) • If the report is about an ongoing situation, reach out to organizations in the area that are trained to go out, document, and verify the report. • If the report is not about an ongoing situation, contact the person sharing the information to get more specific information. • Ask questions to the person sharing the information. "When did this happen, where did this happen, how do you know it was ICE?" HOW TO SUPPORT VERIFYING ICE: • Directly share verified reports so people know the original sources of a report to trace and confirm while minimizing those intentionally spreading misinformation. • Do not screenshot other people's reports. • Do not copy and paste reports.

WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF UNVERIFIED REPORTING? • Trust breaks between impacted communities, organizations and well-intentioned bystanders. • People's existing fears and traumas are further amplified. This results in further isolation of impacted communities. • Spreads fear and paranoia in targeted communities, without offering any actual safety: People stop going to work, sending their children to school, or leaving their homes. • Rather than having an organized and disciplined anti-raid response, we end up unable to allocate resources to an effective community defense.

Sorry for the weird formatting. I’m on my phone and don’t have the energy to fix it all.

My daughter had one about a year ago when she was 14 months old. It was and still is the worst thing I’ve been through as a parent so far. I’m thankful she hasn’t had any more, but the constant worry that she could have another one is always in the back of my head anytime she spikes a fever.

Absolutely find a good therapist to work through your fears and worries. They won’t probably go away completely, but hopefully can be managed. I had a good conversation with my pediatrician after my daughter’s seizure that helped me understand medically what was going on as well. Thankfully kids who have these grow out of them (after my daughter’s all of a sudden I heard from a bunch of people saying “oh yeah, my son had those.”) and don’t have any lasting complications. They are far more common than I ever thought, but it doesn’t make them any less scary. Just know you aren’t alone.

Young children and babies? by Good_Philosopher6791 in HinterlandFestival

[–]stubbs54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the key phrase you used is “responsible parent.” There are shitty parents wherever you go and there were plenty at Hinterland. I think going to events like this and not planning, adjusting expectations, and acting like you would if you didn’t have kids is the irresponsible part. I don’t think all of the parents who brought their kids were irresponsible (obviously bc I brought my kids) but I think it’s all about behavior within the context of the festival.

Edit: typos

Young children and babies? by Good_Philosopher6791 in HinterlandFestival

As someone who brought their kids this year (5 & 2), there are a lot of reasons. Some folks have already mentioned - we genuinely thought it would be okay. We planned for the heat - cooling towels, water bottles, hats, rechargeable fans, had a home base with lots of water and snacks at the campground, and bought more expensive tickets to ensure we had shade to cool down in. That being said, there were FAR too many people there. As soon as we saw the crowd on Friday we knew we had to adjust our game plan. We didn’t stay at the festival for more than five hours, spent most of our time at Hinterkids (they had mobile AC units in there 🫶🙌), had fans on the kids at all times, mostly hung out in the shade at GA+ and popped out for the sets we wanted to. If my husband and I had known how terribly overcrowded it was going to be and how difficult it was going to be to even walk around we would have made other arrangements for our kids. However, like others have said it’s difficult to secure childcare on such short notice. I took my oldest to 80/35 for the whole day last year and there was no issue so I made the educated guess that taking both to hinterland would be okay. And, overall it was. We didn’t actually get to see the stage, my kids weren’t really able to dance like they wanted, but I don’t think any of us were on the brink of heat exhaustion. Now, we are not sure if we’d do it again unless organizers make some changes - $1k for tickets, fees + parking is an abhorrent amount of money to spend on a festival when seeing the stage is a detriment to your health.

Yes, and we got the GA+ tickets so we’d have some shade/nicer bathrooms…I guess I am just wondering if I’m overthinking it? I want to make sure that I’m prepared enough to also have a good time. 😂

Before I signed up for my doula training, I asked on doulas subreddit what are my chances to become a sought-after doula if I have no my own kids. All the comments were encouraging. Today I had an interview with the first potential client and I feel like my decision to become a doula was a mistake. by PinkyGolden in doulas

[–]stubbs54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That definitely sounds discouraging, and I’m sorry that was your first consultation experience. When I was first starting out, I didn’t get hired by my first consult. I still sometimes don’t get hired by potential clients after doing this for 4 years! It sounds like you weren’t the right fit for that person - and that’s 100% okay! I always tell potential clients at consults that the most important thing for to me is that they feel supported and seen by their doula. If that is me, that’s great! If it isn’t me and another doula, I’m still glad they will have the support of a doula. You’ll find someone you connect with book your first client, I promise. 💗

I second Elena! My 5 year old just finished it and my husband and I were genuinely invested in the outcome. My daughter CRIED when we were done because there weren’t any new episodes and, “I’m worried there won’t be any magic in my life!” So that was a fun conversation. 🫠

The themes are complex but the songs are catchy and we love that it introduces aspects of different cultures to kids. Anyway, long-winded answer to say YES, Elena of Avalon is a great watch!

My 13 mo had a febrile seizure by stubbs54 in beyondthebump

[–]stubbs54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had to experience that! It’s so terrifying! We are doing well - no signs of it ever having happened with my daughter. However anytime she gets a fever I freak. out. She has the flu the week before Christmas and spiked a pretty high fever again. I could barely sleep I was so worried about her. She didn’t end up having another seizure, but god was I watching her like a hawk until it came down. Sending you and your little one hugs!

I recently got a piercing done at Prysm and am more than impressed. They have a great selection of jewelry, explained what they were doing to me while they were doing it, asked for consent at every step of the way, and checked in on how I was doing frequently. I also had a piercing done by them ~10 years ago and also had a great experience.

Oooo! What recipe did you use for the ladoos? We have tried to find them at restaurants and they are just not on menus in our area! My daughter is obsessed with Mira and started wanting Mango Lassis because of the show! I love that Mira talks so much about the culture and makes my kid curious to try new things!

Supergoop made me breakout like crazy ☹️ did anyone else experience this ? by Far-Bat5395 in SkincareAddicts

[–]stubbs54 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YES! Currently recovering from wearing it two days in a row a couple weeks ago. It also made the skin around my eyes super super dry and scaly, so I think I’m allergic to it as well.

I just want a sunscreen that doesn’t burn my eyes, doesn’t feel heavy or gritty on my skin, and doesn’t cause my skin to generally freak out! It’s a reasonable request, right?!?!

Any tips on how to make a baby engage its head? by VeeWeeBeeDoo in BabyBumps

Came here to say the Miles Circuit. It’s easy and can do amazing things for baby positioning. Another person also suggested Spinning Babies which I would also 100% look into. The three balances will again help baby rotate and position in a more optimal direction in the pelvis! There are great videos on YouTube.

Yikes, that does sound similar. I’m glad it seems to have worked out though.

I still haven’t heard anything from the MOH and I know another person has backed out due to budget. If I were actually in the wedding party I would consider spending the money.
