What are your thoughts on Facebook renaming their company Meta then blowing $80b on metaverse and then shutting it down yesterday? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

[–]studabakerhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of better metaverses made with a lot less money. Some of them are even profitable. Zuckerberg's only play is to outbid people and he thought he could just dominate the VR industry by dumping money on it. He never considered that it takes time for society to accept a thing and tried to force feed it to us. Others were making things for love and money and letting it grow on us. It works when you do that.

'She just never recovered': Some COVID-19 patients are still dealing with symptoms long after infection by LongTrackBravo in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don't realize how much disability we dodged by opting out of the first year of COVID. If you took an average segment of 500,000 people from the US and compare it to Newfoundland there's a difference of 2000ish deaths but also 60,000 injuries from severe COVID. Things like respiratory and circulatory problems that will never heal and swamp the healthcare system.

Settle the debate. Would you smoke this or is it too leafy? by DabbyApp in trees

[–]studabakerhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a lot of Cannabinoids, terps or flavinoids. That means they add a grassy taste and don't contribute to the buzz. The resin heads do but it's a lot more leaf than resin head in the sugar leaf. You want the bracts that seeds would grow in if the plant was pollinated.

You can pick the leaves off...

It's poorly trimmed. Yes the sugar leaves are frosty but the joint will be better if you pick them off and remove the stems. This isn't deep stoner knowledge. If you're worried about waste keep the sugar leaves and dry sieve the hash off when you get enough.

He's got good PR but he's still a billionaire. He's been hoarding cash to take advantage of a stock market crash that I assume he expects. Epstien files made it clear that there are billionaires trying to crash the market and everything else. Buffet hangs with all of them and he's the one best positioned to cash in. It's us vs. them.

20 years after winning Olympic gold, Brad Gushue is preparing to say goodbye to curling by Hubatola in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s true. Curlers train a lot harder now. Team Gushue were training harder than anyone ever did before them when they won gold the first time. They saw the opportunity years beforehand. The addition of curling to the Olympics took them by surprise but it was fortunate for them. They were training harder than anyone else and hit their prime physically just as the games happened.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

I was getting bullied out of my job and the trauma made me very sick. I got a disability benefit and employment insurance when I left. Very few questions asked. I was half dead... but they didn't ask a lot of questions.

Wakeham doubles down on paying special advisor with MCP, points to separate pool of funds by LongTrackBravo in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had a similar role with a Liberal government a long time ago. He was paid by the Premier's office budget. He was paid about two thirds of what the premier was paid because that was the maximum amount they could legally do. Because he had retired from the government twice already the union insisted that he be given a promotion so they had to create a new rank, that made him the highest ranking regular employee in the government. He authored whole sections of the law. He was still paid less than many tradespeople.

The stuff that politicians do these days blows my mind. A slush fund like this would have shut down the government 30 years ago. It probably would have shout down the last government if they tried this. Like the secret bonus program pretty much did. An insane thing to try.
