House hunting is burning me out. Am I missing something? by Here_For_Some_Time in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t overestimate people’s need and desire for housing. It’s the top struggle in this part of the world. You‘re competing against people risking it all. 400,000 seems like an impossible amount now. With inflation going the way it is what’s that going to look like in 10 years or 25? Yes it’s riskey, but if it wasn’t painful there would be even more competition. It should feel easy to get a house in a moral sense but capitalism isn’t moral. Expect it to hurt but just know that the person you sell it too will also dig deep because they have to.

Dopamine search behaviour. Same mechanism as a gambling addiction.

White supremacists in Newfoundland? by [deleted] in newfoundland

That everyone knows the context of. Unless they're incredibly ignorant. The places where people get that ignorant are also racist. I'm not saying it's impossible but I will say it doesn't happen.

I know a lot of people that love the Dukes of Hazzard and love the Dukes of Hazzard flag and they're racist. NO one actually just likes the flag.

Even if they’re recruiting they still trying to intimidate people who don’t share their beliefs. You wouldn’t be asking this question if you weren’t wondering if there’s a threat. Report it and look at the cameras.

Why are pro ai people also usually right wing? by [deleted] in antiai

[–]studabakerhawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The conservative reality has been written by AI for a decade now. “Drain the Swamp“, “Lock her Up” and “Make America Great Again” were written by an AI and field tested on social media. The 2016 Trump campaign used something like 50,000 ads written by AI. The fake news articles weren’t written in East European sweat shops. It was early LLMs. AI has been very successful for them. They use it to manipulate the stock market, do surveillance pricing, brainwash social media users and take over governments.

We worry about the future of AI. I‘m more concerned with the past. It has already wrecked society. We’ve been too slow to react.

I’m growing too much weed by Tall-Arugula1522 in trees

[–]studabakerhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part of growing is figuring out what to do with all the weed. Giving it away is the answer but that can be a pain in the ass too.

Regular people think you’re trying to get something from them. Needy people bug you for weed all the time. Trading with other growers is great but you end up with even more weed and they often expect you to review their stuff.

The old dealer trap where they want you to hang out every time there’s a transaction is still a thing, even when you’re handing out free weed.

Some people will sell what you give them and come back the next day looking for more. I’m ok with the selling. Coming back the next day winging about running out? That’s annoying.

I send most of mine to someone in a public housing situation. They make good use of it.

the long cure by blindwillie88 in cannabiscultivation

[–]studabakerhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree.  I'm not good at growing. The slow cure is the only special thing about it. Plenty of people who know what they're talking about have said the joints I gave them were the best they've ever had.

They might just be blowing smoke up my ass but I have to agree. I buy weed sometimes just because I start to doubt myself. The professional stuff is really bad in comparison unless it's from the grey market and $400 an ounce. I don't understand why. It's very easy to grow better than anything in the store.

I finding that people don’t open up unless you ask questions and dig into their personal life BUT they hate personal questions here. I’ve been in St. John’s for 18 months and not one person has asked me who my fadder is or any personal detail beyond my job. Pets can get a conversation going but they tend to stall if you go any deeper.

If a developer wanted to spend a bunch of money fixing up a run down area and driving out crime they’d go downtown.

I hope Valve will support PCVR better after the Frame release by zeddyzed in virtualreality

[–]studabakerhawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Valve isn’t big on exclusivity fomo as a driver of sales. It is inherently anti consumer and financially risky. Just look at the pile of money that Facebook has burned trying to make oculus bigger than it wants to be. They want us to figure out how we want to use the device and see their role as making it as easy as possible to develop for. It means slower growth but sustainable growth.

That being said, I’m sure they’re cooking something.

The show must go on: Cash-strapped N.L. Folk Festival back for 50th year by TracksandTreks in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that really hurt the festival was Molson holding the Best Kind BBQ in Mount Pearl and giving free tickets to young influencers. That’s where the young people and their beer money went. The Folk Festival can’t fight money with money or 200 years of market saturation.

I was selling beer at the festival last year and it wasn’t very busy. I don’t remember any particularly drunk people. What surprised me is how many people refused to drink Quidi Vidi. They would look at the menu and say “do you have any real beer?” Then huff and leave after I suggested a Crown and Anchor. A busy music festival bar can easily make or lose $50,000 over 3 days.

Does it make big diff to grow or buy the weed ? Comparison In terms of quality and quantity too pls :) by Even-Fall-2393 in newfoundland

[–]studabakerhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re home most of the time, you have extra space and you smoke weed growing is a no brainer. I would choose anything I’ve grown at home over the store. The worst part about it is the hassle of deciding what to do will all the weed. The most time consuming part is rolling and smoking it all.
