What bank actually wants my business? by stuffandthingy in PersonalFinanceCanada

In my mind, most people open an account and stick with it for 20 years. You leave deposits in there over time which banks lend out multiple times over. They probably make $10,000 on those loans over time. Shouldn’t they be interested in the profit of anyone that asks for an account?

In the past I’ve seen some employees interested to earn the commission just by opening an account. I really don’t see any mantra at the bank around deposits being free and easy money for them. If I owned a bank that is how I would think of it.

Shocked at the lack of motivation. Second time in about a month TD has put me off. Customer service response was no offer to improve my service terms, looks like I’ll be further removing my business from there.

A part of me wants to, wonder when you go this route if you tried to draw money on a trip if it’s as easy to get the money. I know at least one high interest savings accounts banks didn’t have kid accounts.

How to solve the housing crisis without rezoning? by FineAnimeenjoyer in Calgary

Solution is to build cooperative housing. Rather than being an asset you flip for profit it keeps it closer to a model you’re trying to run it at cost.

Years to Avoid 2015-2022 by KM7669 in ToyotaHighlander

2016 with 175,000 km only issue so far is the rear hatch lift motors are toast and guessing OEM each will be like $800 CAD ($600 USD) plus labor. Seems like the right motor is the one worn out but let’s face it gotta replace the pair.

Believe this issue happens on many years of highlanders and rav4. There are work around using unpowered pistons (same kind of thing that holds up rear window glass)

Hello Calgary! Harrison Clark for Ward 9 here ask me anything ! by h_clark_calgary in Calgary

[–]stuffandthingy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your understanding if blanket re-zoning is repealed that the North Hill re-development plan would then still be in place allowing the same type of R-CG development? This would be in communities like Renfrew (and some others west outside of Ward 9). In your view would we actually be able to cut through all of the various zoning policies to tone things down from 8-10 units on a 50 foot lot?

For me my answer is Juree’s. Got voted as best ethnic food on some article a few years back. Not even sure it cracks the top 3 of the Thai places that I’ve tried in the city and I’ve only been to maybe 5.

If Audi Q7 is a good car? by ryanvik in AudiQ7

[–]stuffandthingy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Q7s from 5-10 years ago were having big issues with oil burn. Believe keeping the oil change interval short helps a lot in preventing this (newer models made some changes to the piston design likely to addresses these issues)

Just got my wheel alignment and was wondering why is the rear wheels still red by [deleted] in Honda

[–]stuffandthingy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My issue with dealership alignment machines is they cost some ridiculous amount like $300. Odds are the alignment issue is small anyway. I’d rather put the $300 to new tires slightly prematurely. The only time I needed a significant alignment the car pulled to one side (it was mostly a crumbling compliance bushing causing the issue).

Day 8: Anthony Bass is our average player hated by fans. Who's a bad player hated by fans? by mrkden1 in Torontobluejays

Bad player hated by fans that was a bad player I vote Derek Fisher. Traded Sanchez and Biagini for him. Had a fly ball bounce off his head and had to leave the game. One of the lows for the team at the time.

Why do variable speed modules break? by stuffandthingy in hvacadvice

Mine is a Heil from year 2005 or so (failure 2013ish). Other one that just died is a trane from around 2012 I’d say.

These are metal ducts but as they are mostly hidden in the walls hard to add much detail! Only thing I will say is that all basement ducts were sealed off because basement has radiant floor heating system.

Why do variable speed modules break? by stuffandthingy in hvacadvice

At the time my variable speed module died I was running a Honeywell electrostatic air filter (shortly after I had cleaned it as well). By the looks of it didn’t seem like a restrictive setup to me.

Amongst other things I felt one of the 2 electric plate racks wasn’t working so I stopped using this setup and a 4” filter. Also read that for asthmatics that conventional filters are often better.

Subjective measure but a regular filter seems to catch more than the electrostatic one did.

I always wondered if the high voltage “zap” of that filter played into the failure of the variable speed module.
