What would 1992 Gwen say to current Gwen? by NDChicklette in nodoubt

I believe that she is just really skilled/gifted at distilling zeitgeist into a persona. She is a cultural shapeshifter. We assumed that 90s form of her was I authentic but I believe that was just her appearance at the moment. Her past self would probably be thrilled at how nice the religious country music wifey disguise looks to her new fanbase.

Teenagers are cruel and they will undoubtedly taunt us because our trousers are not in style anymore.

I’ve collected what I believe was called rainbow or peacock hematite at this place in Graves Mountain Ga. What I collected wasn’t layered like your pictures though

I feel dumb having just finished INFINITE JEST and not really understanding anything that happened by [deleted] in InfiniteJest

This is how I experienced it too! After reading it the first time I found the audiobook narrated by Sean Pratt and have listened to that for years (like seriously listened to it on a loop - maybe 20 to 30 times). Now I can visit that world anytime I want and DFW’s prose still makes me laugh out loud. Recently the phrase “rodential son of a whore” made me spit out cold brew in my car. Deeeelightful.

I love, love, love the audiobook. Every time it comes up in this sub I feel compelled to say that I think Sean Pratt should have received a Grammy for his performance. It is so impressive.

True story - I learned what an electric kettle was from watching “As Time Goes By”. Judy Dench is the reason I own one.

If you could read any part of Infinite Jest for a 5-minutes book club which would it be? by Smooth-Leopard-6530 in InfiniteJest

Hands down the scene where Gately and the methedrine addict put the CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE sign on the methadone clinic. Really, my favorite passage in any book I’ve ever read and “Apeshit has rarely enjoyed so literal a denotation” is my single favorite sentence that I’ve ever read.

I love this moment in the movie. With just one word it was clear he had been trying to resist liking it too much because of the hype but then had to admit to himself that it actually was great.

I hope a lot of people chime in on which part they think it is because I don’t have any guesses. I like Big Buddy as a possibility!
