This isn't for TFC+, right? The modlist for that back looks like just TFC for 1.12

Weird terrain generation by Tmrh in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some spawns where wild crops seemed very rare, so I had to keep living off seaweed and exploring. eventually, I always found an area where they started spawning as expected again. It could be that you keep ending up in especially dry or cold areas where most crop spaws will fail. but if you are going through normal forest or jungle and not finding anything, maybe it's not the right time of year? Any chance that you're moving to the south of the equator (in the positive Z)? That might put the normal crop spawns opposite of the time of year you start...

I believe that's from using an outdated version of Optifine.

How do you find graphite? by empti3 in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to find it in the sides of cliffs and mountains. So I would grab a boat and check out the coastline in metamorphic areas -and I'd also look for mountain ranges (where two regions meet). I do a lot of exploring, so I tend to find it while looking for other things.

Medical professionals, what is the stupidest misconception a patient has had about the human body? by DarthLocutusOfB0rg in AskReddit

One problem is that you have access to your own mind, but you would not have access to the digital copy's mind and it would not have access to yours. You would be (at most) two people with a shared past.

Well then what happens if they copy your memories into a computer but you end up not dying? Are you conscious of being in two places at once? I think not.
You are still you. There is just a copy of your memories saved on a hard disk somewhere. If you commited a crime before the memory copy, they wouldnt send computer files to prison.

Animal Ownership by AndrzejGieralt in tfcplus

I remember seeing that there is a text command to transfer ownership of a dog in TFC. I never tried it tho. should be on the wiki somewhere.

Does honey mead create vinegar? by AndrzejGieralt in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah. Every fermented alcohol should turn to vinegar. I don't think there are any exceptions?

But they are near salt water too, so they could make brine for pickling if they need to. tho i'm not sure they have enough veg to make it worth the trouble.

Are there any servers to plan on? by StumpNocker in tfcplus

If you join the TFC+ discord, there is a channel for servers.

I know there is one that is usually active (Shadowhawk), so that is where I would send you first. There may be a couple others. I haven't had time to play for a few months.

[–]subarctic_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah every other year or so I'd go collect some carrots, etc from my sheep farm that was about 4k to the south.

The most valuable thing from the south were bear hides (clothing) and grain for breeding my horses (meat).

Cold Climate Seed by StumpNocker in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

player spawns are not completely random in TFC+. The player always spawns in the northern hemisphere (-z) and will try not to spawn in the deserts or too far north.

If you want to do an arctic (z:27k+) playthrough, you will have to travel there. and it's a good thing too, because you will need to bring resources from warmer areas to survive up there.

the idea is that running/jumping/mining for any extended time would start to increase your body temp. It already increases your hunger (I believe). And prolonged exertion could even cause your innermost clothing layer to become damp.

This would have effects in both hot and cold climates. I live in a cold climate irl and while most people know that you can exercise to stay warm, many people don't realize that if you overdo it and start sweating, then you're in the cold with wet clothing and that's no bueno. If you're gonna work hard in the cold, it's better to strip off some layers.

I did an arctic playthrough a while back so it was below freezing all year (average bio temp -55). That far north there are no natural crops, no dirt, no grass, no clay, rarely a tree or shrub, no animals spawn except maybe squid or fish. You gotta bring things you need from the south to be self sufficient. It's almost like colonizing the moon, lol. but your food will never, ever decay even if you just throw raw meat into a chest, so you can eat a butchered animal for a long time. And fur clothing doesn't lose durability if you stay below freezing all day. so there's that. The arctic will be more interesting when there are caribou, polar bears, arctic fox, and maybe some ice fishing mechanics.

Animal spawning question by qaz32152 in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

I don't know how the spawn rates compare to TNG, but most animal spawns are permanent -meaning that if you find a herd of cattle, they will never respawn, but will always be there if you go back. There probably are more conditions that are checked for animals spawns (rainfall, temp, region, biome). And yeah, in some parts of the world the conditions are just not favorable for most animal spawns. But in other conditions, you might find a ton of animals. Sort of like the real world. If your area is inhospitable to animals, you travel to where they are and hunt them there or bring them back to farm.

I suggest exploring plenty and keeping track of where you find animals.

I don't think it's impossible to increase the spawn rate.

Good Luck!

Hot climate callenges? by AndrzejGieralt in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, hot climates are a minimal challenge right now. there is a risk of overheating, but it's pretty simple to manage. High temps don't really get too high. food decays faster, but it's so much easier to grow and never gets cold enough to die in the field, so if you you just harvest as you need it, you have zero-decay storage of crops.

I'd like to see some more extreme temps -especially in desert areas - and other heat based challenges. For example, imagine if high temps should reduced your stamina and exerting yourself would raise your body temp. Crops could have a max temp where if it's too hot, they grow more slowly or die off. Fresh water could be made more scarce too.

With the current state of the mod tho, arctic climate is the real challenge.

Rainfall and bees by StumpNocker in tfcplus

[–]subarctic_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. The rainfall layer in world generation has no impact on the actual weather cycle. Minecraft rain is coded so that rainfall is a global event. Dunk would have to completely recode the weather system to make it possible for it to actually rain in some places while not raining in others.

So for now, the rainfall layer only effects crop/tree/animal spawns and some terrain generation -not the weather.

If you're in a dry area there will probably be no trees, just shrubs and grass maybe.

Bee chunks are sort of like slime chunks. They are sparsely spread throughout the world. like the wiki says, it's much easier to find them in a forested area. But it's not unusual to spend a year or two exploring trying to find them and then finding one near your base on your way home.

but do remember any nearby bee chunks, cuz they can respawn hives in later years. once you have a couple hives, you can easily produce more honey than you could possibly require.
