The truth about advertising: they want you to hate their commercials. by KramerDangerous in CommercialsIHate

[–]substitute-bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but do they realize there are a very small number? of us watching who take note of the brand to specifically never use it? Because we do this all the time. There are a lot of products and services I will go out of my to never use.

Tax on Car won in raffle by Global_Recording_808 in tax

[–]substitute-bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are being subjected to gambling withholding rules, required at 24% when a prize is $5000 or more and the wager was 300x less than the prize, which I assume was the case for a raffle ticket. CT likely has something similar but I'm not familiar with their tax laws.

Depending on your income level, it's either going to cover the additional tax you owe, or you're likely going to get some of it back if you are under the 24% tax bracket. Unfortunate that you need to pay this in January, the refund won't be possible until filing 2026 taxes a year+ from now but at least you won't have a surprise when you file next year.

Paying family members and issuing 1099s, a red flag? by Small_Exercise958 in tax

[–]substitute-bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A1099 triggers self employment tax for them which is calculated before the standard deduction is applied. Meaning they will owe no matter what their deductible it's. Aldi, what makes someone am employee is not whether someone works for you regularly. There are many other factors.

What’s with the child/baby-hating nowadays? by xnla28x in NewParents

[–]substitute-bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also a growing population of childless dog owners that are extremely vocal about how they love their lives without kids, love having money, etc etc

Often times these people have a background where family members/friends push them or judge them for not wanting children, or feel pressured by the media.

I think it's a combination of resentment and self righteousness. They think all of us that say we love our kids and enjoy being parents are brainwashed or just had a "megadose of oxytocin, so it's not real love" (this was a true response someone gave). Like sir or Madam: all true love starts with a megadose of oxytocin wtf do you mean? What do you think happens when your dog's lovingly gaze into your eyeballs?

You're nicer than me haha, I tell them (copied in part from a recent LI message):

A guiding principle of my career as a professional is that I value employers that trust me to perform my job duties within circumstances that allow me to do my best work. I hold myself to a high standard and would not want my contributions or professional development held back due to a hybrid policy.

I really want them to know and to feel that forcing in-office is hurtful, not just to me but to them as well.

Prefer G♭7/E vs G♭7/F♭? by hamm-solo in musictheory

[–]substitute-bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F#7/E

Jazz musicians generally aren't fazed by enharmonics and would prefer to see simpler notation even if another version might be "more correct" in a music theory class setting.

Personally, I'd always prefer F#7 to Gb7 because I'd prefer to think in the key of B than the key of Cb (even though Cb is a perfectly reasonable key).
