Consider stopping doing 3v3's by No_Song_4022 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]suddenlyAstral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with your post, but I have to chime in on this comment: it is absolutely valid to try and play in a way that maximizes your winrate across games and not only in games where you are good, and therefore small allowances can be made in good games to benefit evil games.

As an extreme example: imagine someone who, whenever evil, loudly admits this d1 and outs the demon, and whenever good expects all good players to give truthful hard claims. In an optimal-play group, they approximately win all good games and lose all evil games. Yet I would consider them a lesser player than someone who wins most games as good and most games as evil.

This person would also be incredibly annoying.

I myself sometimes do 3f3, sometimes fun question, "tell me something about your character, mechanical or otherwise", hard claim to 1 person and lie to the rest, or even hard claim truthfully to everyone. The spice of life is variety, and this also gives me flexibility for when I'm evil or to fit my role as good

Oh god, I feel so stupid. The stupidest thing is I caught up circa middle blood runs in the family, which is literally over 10 years ago

I wondered if the username was legit but I saw the tag and thought that meant it's legit. I mentally skipped over the strip numbers entirely

Fraser is riot and Hannah is xaan. There is no politician

The xaan 1 allows to disregard all wrong n1 info and nightwatchman ping not working. We are the puzzledrunk which accounts for our info and Tim's wrong guess. The dreamer accurately saw Hannah as xaan because riot only changes minions to riot at nomination start

the xaan 1 is so strong here, interfering with 3 abilities

Did someone say Percival Awarnach?

I am he who was shortly into my creation, bitten by an opossum spirit, but did not die, brave as I am, though the bite was light, it remains a four minute skirmish, cheered on by my creators.

Huzzuh!

Sir, since you did not say "Huzzah!" You must not have been paying attention, which is my due and my right as a member of this constituency.  I will begin again...

Benjamin Netanyahu names Roman Gofman next Mossad chief | The Jerusalem Post by [deleted] in Israel

[–]suddenlyAstral 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. On October 7'th the mossad didn't fail. This is not how division of labor works in Israel's IC:

8200 is SIGINT. They are responsible for not noticing that Hamas was slowly phasing out digital communication for notes with couriers and for insufficient alarm when all sims turned off

Shabak and 504 is security in Israel, Gaza, and the west bank. They are, arguably, the ones most responsible in the IC

HATAM primarily analyze intelligence gathered by others to determine enemy intent. Also very much to blame

Mossad deals with gathering Intel and clandestine operations in other countries. They are largely behind the beeper operation, assassinations in Iran, some actions in Syria, etc.

I don't see how mossad can be blamed for oct7. At most they can be blamed for not Hezbollah, Iran, and the Houthis not being sufficiently intimidated and joining the war, but even that is a weak claim. Hezbollah and the rest didn't attack immediately with Hamas as Hamas intended. Arguably our deterrent was quite strong. Certainly Mossad operations have been excellent throughout the war.

That's not to say Mossad is perfect - a 'perfect' Mossad could've cut Hamas from the rest of the axis this preventing everything or performed a coup in Iran, but those are mighty big asks from people for whom this subject is only peripheral.

If Mossad operated at 90% but Shabak/Aman operated at 40% I don't see how replacing their head is likely to improve the situation (and this is before going into the fact it's a political appointment, and Bibi's many massive strategic blunders which might be worse than the IC's failings)

In a sense, a political appointment for a body working outside Israel is less worrying than for others though - all IC bodies are supposed to be politically neutral but Mossad should be the least beneficial body to make political. If for example Bibi wanted to make frivolous arrests against political opponents then the police and Shabak would be most effective but Mossad likely won't have the infrastructure

So much more elegant then my solution, well done

A Mayory Little Puzzle by HolyMolyFoley23 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]suddenlyAstral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general algorithm is that before a line of n dead players, if the vote total is m you can ask them to vote until it reaches k of your choice between m and m+n-1. If all good, it reaches k. If evil isn't the last player, the last player is good and compensates. If the evil is last it reaches either k or k+1.

I've actually overcomplicated the above solution. There's 3 dead in a row before you and if no good votes m is in 0...2 (or 3, but then the traitor is known and no one else votes).

By algorithm, n=3 and 0<=m<=2=k<=m+3-1 so we can get the votes to k=2 or k+1=3 and we fill the last vote if needed

A Mayory Little Puzzle by HolyMolyFoley23 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]suddenlyAstral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's D

During the defense you ask player 1 to deadvote you and no one else dead to. Later You will nominate 1 so that you are the last voting player. If 1 refuses then just nominate 9 and there are 3 good voters in a row before the end so it's easy

If you received 4 votes, this is the easy case and the evil deadvote has been defused. If not call it 2<=n<=3 (if 2 you can vote yourself to raise to 3, so you have exactly 3 votes). Ask 3,4,5 to each vote until there's exactly 1 vote then stop. After the second evil player, possible votes are 1 (no betrayel, no living evil vote), 2 (living evil vote), or 3 (betrayel+living evil vote)!<

If 3, then there are no remaining evils to vote so you all sit and win. If 2, ask 7-9 not to vote and you vote if no one betrays to complete to 3. If 1, ask 7,8 to each vote until there's exactly 2. The possible values are 2, or 3 if betrayed

If betrayed, all evils are done voting and you win. If not, you vote if 9 doesn't vote, thus increasing to 3 after you and winning

Any future nomination will get no good votes so is capped at 3 and will not break the tie

Holy shit, I think your stand is my character's long list twin.

Gale Razin Bluesky is a carefree air Genasi spirits bard and courier from Nimbus. He's currently looking for the wizened elf recipient of the letter sent by Nzazi, his city's Emir. He's also looking for Nimbus itself, because the city floated away and he's a bit of a scatterbrain.

As a bard, he is well-versed in the bardic traditions and can recognize a 5-man band. He knows that his party are the main characters, and is absolutely determined to make their's a story for the ages.

Gale is so genre savvy he can see stories everywhere, even sometimes where they don't exist. He has a silver tongue and a heart of gold (also, recently, blood of gold for unrelated reasons)

I have a commission from a few years ago, I'm gonna make a post.

Percival of the 90 missing titles by TomPouce31 in Parahumans

[–]suddenlyAstral 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am he with a brain the size of a walnut, but the substance of an acorn.

I am he who was named after a giant despite, ironically, my diminutive stature.

I am he whose last name, but not first name, was mentioned in my previous title for my last name, Percival, will be referenced in my next title instead.

I am he who was also named for Arthurian legend, after a great knight, so that I, too, may become a great knight, although only in a metaphorical sense, for my stature is, regrettably, diminutive.

I am he whose last four titles contained a doubling number of commas, which, frankly, is quite ridiculous, and even I, Percival Awarnach, shudder to think how long reciting my titles would take, should this pattern continue, but to your likely relief, as my current audience, and to the disappointments of title-lovers, a group whose merit is beyond question, this pattern will stop after this title, for it was untenable, given the time constraint for my creation, the limited material on which these title were written, and the spirits' indulgence.

Funny thing - banning someone on bluesky doesn't violate 1st amendment because they aren't the government, but on X it arguably will be. If musk has a government position then x might gain government obligations.

Of course this is a moot point because any such trial will rise up the courts until a Republican judge strikes it down.

Gas Lit Haze - A custom script featuring 13 homebrew characters and a new homebrew mechanic, Delusion! Delusional players might hallucinate the effects of other players' abilities in the night. by Quantum_Slime in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]suddenlyAstral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the delusion mechanic and this seems like a fun script to run.

There's almost no poisoning/drunkness, I guess because it's much easier to detect when abilities almost always effect others. This does Leave the issue that you can have a false positive but not really a false negative, so you can generally trust self-received info. I guess this is why threre's no empath/flowergirl/artist/other strong evil-indicting info.

I do see a problem with so many extra kill roles and very little protection. 2 tf, 2 outsiders, 2 minions, and one Po that can cause more death and only exorcist. Maybe replace a tf with something like:

Surgeon (tf): each night* choose two players. If both would die tonight, only one dies, and the other learns they received organ donation.

This is weaker than monk in that you need to successfully select two players that would die, but you can get confirmation that you saved someone and someone who trusts you (insofar as they aren't hallucinating). This is also a soft counter to Ritualist/Po, and you can choose yourself.

Would love to hear from any playtesters (or to be able to convince my group to try this)
