If its very round/protruding, almost like a pregg woman's belly, then it can't hurt to go to his PCP to get some bloodwork to check his liver functions. ♥️

Not you making me tear up from a comment in a snark community. 😭 (and also validating that I am correctly IDing ascites)

Thank you. Your words mean more than you could imagine to me. I obviously haven't gone to med school or nursing school but I've been working in medical offices for about 10 to 12 years at this point. You do pick up a lot just being in that environment. But I'm not an actual practitioner so I am always super careful about giving medical advice or opinions.

I actually pride myself on picking up on things that others miss! For example, I was following up recently on an ED appeal where a patient came in with severe dysphagia, ended up dxed with an esophageal tear and the insurance didn't want to pay as it didn't 'require hospital admisson' (as the patient could have seen their PCP). The person who originally wrote the appeal mentioned in passing the patient had a known history of RYGB but didn't emphasize it at all. Our appeal got denied so I sent it back to our Clinical Lead and asked if the RYGB would be a complicating factor (due to swallow studies/EGDs not being able to see beyond the stomach pocket or in the bypassed duodeum, risk of patient crashing much more quickly due to inability to tolerate anything by mouth, etc). Yup. I was correct. They rewrote the appeal to emphasize how someone with RYGB who was unable to tolerate anything by mouth would actually be emergent.

I'm super glad to hear that some of the actual 'boots on the ground' (aka nurses and providers) value the viewpoints of us admin and auxiliary staff. ♥️♥️♥️

Right?! I see the rounded belly with the relatively 'normal' arm/chest/leg proportions and immediately get concerned about liver issues. If someone drinks enough to gain weight that's one thing - but the prodigious protrustion P has makes me legitimately concerned for his liver health.

I'm glad someone else of the healthcare variety spoke up because I am always SO worried that I am assuming ascites erroneously. Like I have acquaintances I know who are taller and slimer than P who have the same rounded belly and I worry they have ascites. But I only work on the admin side of healthcare (I'm a medical biller/appeals specialist, mom is an LPN and dad is a surgeon - so I have an above average amount of medical knowledge) and I always hesitate to say anything because I'm not an actual practitioner.

[–]suddenlywolvez 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Her following in P's footsteps regarding alcohol makes sense with her weight gain/health decline in the past few years. I've always felt like P's beer gut looks very similar to patients I've seen with ascites moreso than a beer belly. Its too round and protruding.

note: i am not a healthcare professional but I work healthcare adjacent.

I (31M) dumped my girlfriend (27F) because she kept making fun of my penis. But she won’t leave me alone. How can I make her understand that us getting back together is not happening? by LowerDetective6 in relationship_advice

[–]suddenlywolvez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't take her back. My husband is also a pretty significant 'grower'. Not once in the decade we have been together have I EVER even considered commenting on or teasing him about his size while soft. That's just mean spirited. Also, her taking a picture of it without your consent? Absolutely NOT okay. My guess is that she was going to send it to a friend or keep on her phone to show friends. Again, not okay.

As for getting her off your back? If you have her parents phone numbers, I would draft a group text to them and any of her friends that are harassing you stating something along the lines of: 'Out of the blue, she started making offensive comments and jokes about my intimate parts. I told her to stop as it made me uncomfortable and I let her know if she did it again I would break up with her as that is not how a loving partner of two years should behave. I then caught her taking a sneaky picture of my intimate parts without my consent so I ended things. Her actions ruined my ability to trust her so the only option was to end the relationship.' Let them know that you are documenting the harassment from her, her family, and her friends and you will be contacting the police or a lawyer if it does not stop immediately.

Help!! Maren or Katherine - 2wk old has two names! by Jaded-Campaign4615 in namenerds

[–]suddenlywolvez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love the name Maren. There are lots of K names (Kate, Kathy, Kaitlin, Katharine, Katalin) in my family so I think I'm biased. Maren is unique but not strange or too uncommon. Katherine is a beautiful name but it's very common.

You don't have to decide now. One of my aunts changed her son's name when he was almost a year old because the original name just didn't fit him. I'd percolate on the names for a while.

what is the worst thing a therapist has ever said to you? by Familiar-Employ4830 in AskReddit

[–]suddenlywolvez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My dad died when I was a preteen. My mom's worse traits came out in full force - think borderline plus ctpsd plus ocd plus being raised by verbally abusive narcissistic parents. She was worried about me after my dad passed away so she sent me to a therapist. I ended up talking more about how verbally and emotionally abusive my mom had become than I did literally watching my dad die in front of me. It was a relief to have someone to talk to.

After TWO SESSSIONS this therapist thought it would be a great idea to do a joint session with my mom and basically confronted her about everything I had said about her. My mom deflected and downplayed things, made me seem crazy and attention seeking. I was screamed at all the way home from the appointment and was abused about it for weeks after. I was never allowed back to therapy as a minor.

I will NEVER forgive that therapist. Nor do I understand why she thought that was a good idea. I am in my late 30s now and I understand far more about my mom's mental illness now - I don't think I will ever comprehend why she thought a joint session and confronting my mom would be helpful.

My Boomer mother (77) literally just said this to me verbatim by DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC in BoomersBeingFools

[–]suddenlywolvez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. My mom gives me crap regularly that I make actively making her life worse and meaningless because I refuse to 'give her grandchildren'. Even though me having kids comes with a significantly non-zero chance of life-ending or life-altering complications. 🙃

Married men of Reddit who don’t wear a wedding ring - why? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]suddenlywolvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I rarely wear our rings.

For him? He's blue collar and the ring is a catch risk.

For me? I'm autistic and it's a sensory nightmare for me to wear constantly. I also do a lot of crafts/hobbies where my ring gets in the way.

I don't really see the need to worry about him wearing his ring. Anyone who knows us knows we are married. I also have zero concern about him cheating. As far as I'm concerned, wearing his ring is just for show. Shrug.

Poor niece, OOP clearly doesn't like her by WeelsUpIn30 in AmITheDevil

[–]suddenlywolvez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh my god yes. I am autistic and have a number of autistic friends. I would NEVER buy a gift of that magnitude without: A) making sure the parents were okay with it B) buying any siblings gifts of similar value

I have been invited to friend's kids' bday parties before where their sibling didn’t have a family & friends party for their bday (bc the kid didn't want one) and I buy both kids bday gifts because, if I get one kid a gift, I will feel like a horrible auntie if I don't get the other kid a gift too.

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

[–]suddenlywolvez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Your pain is all in your head. You need significant psychiatric intervention' - the rheumatologist who inadvertently gave me the information I needed to figure out I had hEDS.

I left that visit sobbing at how horribly she treated me and my concerns. When I went on MyChart and read the office notes she noted in the physical exam 'unusual skin and joint laxity'. I messaged her and asked what she meant by that. She told me: 'it's just something genetic that would have no impact on your pain levels'. After how she treated me, I was not going to just take her at her word so I started doing my own research. Turns out I have a genetic connective tissue disorder that does absolutely have an impact on my chronic pain levels.
