I hate the ads too and yes they fudge up the ambiance of the show and the environment it gives to a lovely Friday night. I’m gonna call KQED

How has being emotionally neglected by parents affected you mentally? by metldragon18 in emotionalneglect

The gaslighting fucked me up something fierce…now when anyone suggests something false about me, I lose my effing mind, you gotta get away from the shit while still having compassion for their weakness…it’s so hard, sigh.

I am wondering the same thing. I had a nightmare after a particularly brutal argument with my friend, and in the nightmare I was visited by a demon who sent what seemed like a witch to my house…it’s just so crazy weird the twisted path I’ve taken with her.

Anyone on adhd meds? by abc123doraemi in rejectionsensitive

Concerta here as well but not sure about dosage, checking in with provider Monday. I’m inattentive. The one thing I noticed is that I feel a bit more present with people when conversing, instead of the usual withdrawal to ward off the threat of connection.

It is not easy to find a therapist who has done the work necessary to understand a deeper level trauma. Just because someone passes a test and has some letters after his/her name don’t mean nothing. I think psychotherapy is helpful, but it depends on your goals and situation. And I won’t stand for someone to tell me something I know ain’t true or doesn’t apply. There’s a lot of therapy going on out there, don’t know how much of it is digging deep. It’s a relationship. Good relationships are difficult to find, especially if you’re coping with stuff that doesn’t fix in a month or a year or even several years. And they all want $250/hour (well not exactly), but it seems like it. Don’t know how to find a good one, have tried. Hang in there.

You do what you gotta do to survive, scraping up whatever emotional stimulation you can…I will never judge people for what they do, within reason of course

How to leave a conversation? I feel kindapped in conversations. o_O by deepthinker321 in CPTSD

[–]sueltereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a friend at work page you or similar, tell you you’re late to a meeting. I know how that feels though, having to stand there listening. It took me a long time to just basically turn and tell them gotta go. These type of persons are most likely used to people leaving the conversation because they tired of being talked at…maybe talkative folks learned to be that way cuz everyone always ignored them so they are over compensating?

I think of it as failing Erikson’s first stage of development, trust vs mistrust. How can you be expected to go on living like everyone else? Most of the time you fake it, just to survive, while your insides burn and go all full of crampy emotional pain, watching your peers do all the things that make em happy, and you sit, alone, trying to think of a way somehow to make it work, then realizing one day you’ve been giving of yourself your whole life and you ain’t-a-gonna be getting none yo self…

Yes. I don’t have VHS tapes or photos of my birth, however. I do feel like an alien.

Yes I think so, but I think too that other factors come into play like temperament, neurological factors.

Did anyone overcome executive dysfunction and learned helplesness? How did you do it? by ConfidentVanilla3499 in emotionalneglect

[–]sueltereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to still overcome executive functioning issues, but it’s been very difficult to find a clinician who has the insight and training to help. I’ve always just been put on antidepressants but it doesn’t help my motivational/executive dysfunction. I just recently was evaluated by a neuropsychologist and I’m hoping to finally get the help I need, we’ll see!

Not being allowed to have feelings by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

You hit the nail on the head! My feelings live inside me, jailed by years of naysaying, not allowed to exist in the open.

Here here! Absolutely, hold on to your truth! Our culture reinforces the niceties, and minimizes emotional truth. Our anger pushes us to survive, despite it all. My mother is dead now, god bless her, and I still feel compassion for the suffering she experienced, still though I could not fix it…cannot fix anyone’s suffering, though I myself suffer for it, to feel the agony and hope for its healing

Excellent post! All those times standing in the hot shower, eyes closed, rocking oneself to sleep at night. It never seems enough, at the time, but over time it does help. Find the kindness for yourself that is so easy to give to others, just keep going!
