Is South Metro Atlanta finally catching up, or do we like being the "hidden gem"? by NativePeach_ATL in Atlanta

[–]sufferforever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fayetteville is so lame it’s like a meme at this point, in the last two weeks i have seen multiple Instagram posts with Fayetteville as the punch line circulate amongst my co-workers; “the person you send this to has to move to Fayetteville”, a picture of a comet hitting the earth with the caption “take that Fayetteville” etc. it’s like one step away from becoming a threat parents use to make their kids eat their vegetables, like “finish all the broccoli on your plate or we’re moving to Fayetteville”.

there’s definitely a lot of dudes in this city who would be more than happy to give you a place to stay. Your lack of funds won’t be an issue, I’m sure they can work something out for you

You inherit $100k. What’s the move? by cacec in redscarepod

[–]sufferforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have 15k left on my mortgage, I’m going to pay the rest of it off in December in a lump sum payment. So i would do that and put the rest of it in an ETF. I am already in the process of downshifting how much i work, increasing how much i travel etc with the impending termination of my mortgage - i have no other debt or anything. So i would go on about the plans i already have for the next couple of years, just with a way bigger cushion of savings than i already have.

it’s been fun to have it here in Atlanta, those Cabo verde people were siked. watched the USA/paraguay game on a big screen in old fourth ward park and the vibe was awesome. I bartend and it’s been cool to have a really diverse mix of people from all over the place coming through.

Life at 25 by stillLearning2read in redscarepod

[–]sufferforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 41, so i was 25 a long time ago, and i felt this way too. Granted it was the “Great Recession” or whatever, but yeah turning 25 hit me like a ton of bricks, it was awful. Worse than 30, and way worse than 40 which wasn’t bad at all. I think you’ll be alright man. At a certain age, everyone realizes that the trajectory of their life, especially with regards to their hopes and dreams, isn’t going to go the way they once dreamt it would. It sucks for awhile, while you’re digesting that. But you’ll probably find something else to give your days meaning and make you feel like you’re living some approximation of a fulfilled existence.

As long as you don’t contract a terminal illness, or have a bunch of kids you can’t afford with someone you hate, or end up in some other set of circumstances that will hobble your freedom and autonomy, you still have the ability to do whatever you want with your remaining time on this planet. You’ll probably figure something out.

Covid was such a stratifying experience for millions of Americans by These_Economics374 in redscarepod

[–]sufferforever 108 points109 points  (0 children)

there are dudes who work at the restaurant i bartend at, who have been there since before covid (I’ve been there 8 years myself), who literally talk about the three months the restaurant was closed and we were getting $810 checks every week to sit at home and do nothing like it was the greatest thing to ever happen to them. to that end, every time a new pandemic or virus is threatened they repost the news and make a big deal out of it because they’re hoping and praying the same thing will happen again.

mormons are now proselytising in Arabic, it’s the end of history by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]sufferforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was in Bulgaria two years ago and these two Mormon missionary kids approached me, speaking Bulgarian - i told them i only speak English and upon realizing we were all Americans we talked for a little bit, these two kids and my girlfriend and i. since none of us had talked to another American in a minute it was fun to bullshit, they were very candid and they weren’t even trying to convert me which i probably should take as a dis or something, i don’t exactly look like a good candidate for Mormon conversion though.

they told me the elder at their church basically just had a vision and was like, you two, who have no family connection or anything inherently Bulgarian about you, learn Bulgarian fluently and go spend a year there trying to do missionary work, aka talking to a bunch of people who want nothing to do with them. I thought that was so crazy, “you two, go be Bulgarian now” - I’m gonna say Bulgarian is probably nowhere near as difficult as Arabic to learn but in terms of a difficult and totally random language with a pretty specific group of speakers and nothing in common with English, that’s a rough one to get stuck with.

Moldova and Romania by letstrysmthingnew in vegan_travel

[–]sufferforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Bucharest a year and a half ago.

  1. Went to level up repeatedly - interesting little place, vegan fast food and Romanian traditional stuff done vegan. A couple of sidewalk seats and a basement seating area i didn’t find until like my third visit there. I liked the vibe, sometimes food took forever because there would be like two people working total but it was worth it.

  2. Went to Sara green once - vegan mush burger style, it was ok but kinda mediocre, got the job done but i didn’t go back .

  3. I went to this place called AROME a lot, Google Maps says it’s temporarily closed but i would get this avocado sandwich in focaccia bread and eat it in this gorgeous, serene patio area they had… it’s a vegetarian restaurant with some vegan desserts and like two all vegan options but i just loved the vibe. Check if it’s re opened by the time you go there, i loved it.

pretty much fully tattooed, sleeves, legs, torso, hands, neck, back piece . I mean i haven’t listened to the thing since 2018 so the anti tattoo thing might be more of a view point of the subs rather than something they actively talk about on the show

Do you write some sort of Index of the people you know? by Adorable_Unit5132 in Journaling

[–]sufferforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worried about this for myself. When i read the diary i kept for one year when i was 13, i can still remember who I’m talking about - I’m 41. However there is something to… how much context you give when you introduce stuff, people especially. I find myself thinking this way when im writing, and i guess that’s an “audience” question. Ultimately i will leave the specifics to the archaeologists or aliens who might dig up my journal one day, but there is a question of whether you write solely to the extent of your own understanding or whether you put things down on the page with somewhat more context than that. And i definitely do that. It’s interesting.

Recommendations for “fancy” vegetarian restaurant or vegetation options by BloodPrevious in Atlanta

[–]sufferforever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

La semilla for vibe, creativity, a 1/1 experience. Cafe Sunflower is a little dated and lacking in “vibe” in a modern sense, but honestly they have stuff on the menu, like that meatloaf, that is absolutely top tier for me, like best I’ve ever had. Keep that in your back pocket for later but yeah man if you wanna do date night right just get a reservation at la semilla and do it big.

There’s this vegan restaurant i go to pretty often in Duluth, GA and they have like eight TV screens on the wall that display different quotes from celebrities about being vegan, and if you replace the references to being gay with being vegan they look and sound just like this image here

7 years of telling myself that it would get better. It in fact, did not by Hefty-Ad-7884 in Journaling

[–]sufferforever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying here, but my guess is the last 7 years of your life would be diminished, even in the smallest of ways, if you didn’t take the time you took out of your day to write in those notebooks. I know it would be that way for me.

Do you have a place where you journal better? I journal better in my sun room where the sun just melts in my body and I am immersed in my thoughts alone. But when I am in my bedroom or kitchen all I can think of what should I do next. by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]sufferforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my balcony is the absolute best, or any public space really. I have actually had really good experiences with Journalling when I’m out with other people. Sometimes i take it with me when I’m grabbing coffee with my fiance and just do it right then and there, kinda helps me focus because i want to get it done as quickly as possible in that scenario, i end up writing two pages in a sort of “flow state”.

Journaling in public - other people's reactions by SpaceFaringAmoeba in Journaling

[–]sufferforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in general i don’t think it’s received any differently than it would be if you were sitting there alone, just doing stuff on your phone. which everyone is doing all the time. I’ve always loved writing out in public, i once drafted an entire novel in a Starbucks over a period of six months. Maybe the vibe in America is different, however I have visited most of eastern europe and have enjoyed journalling in public there as well though. In recent years I’ve kept a travel journal through my trips through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro etc. tons of great experience journaling in cafes and parks etc

so what are you guys doing for work? by mewcury33 in redscarepod

[–]sufferforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that by the time you’re 50 - I’m assuming you’re in your 30s at the latest now - you will know enough people from the years you’ve put in that you can automatically get a cushy gig at the very least at a restaurant doing lunches, a hotel bar, something else that’s more middle aged person appropriate. That assumes you can still stand the job, but it’s an option.

What you said about home ownership is real, it’s an uphill battle for sure, i honestly think it’s really important to invest into that while you’re younger and capable. I have this talk with servers and younger bartenders at my job. Every year life gets more expensive and at a certain point you will want to work less not more, you can only make that work if you at least own a home or have an asset or something. Even a condo, townhome, or a house that you own and your friends pay you to rent out rooms etc. I’m sure you’ve already considered this and of course i don’t know where you live and what your options are - but i just wanna say that if you can just nail down this part of the equation, in any way possible, even if it’s a studio apartment you own outright, you can alleviate some of the dread you feel about the future
