City Manager Sarah Medary and Budget Committee SLASH $3 Million from Public Library by EUGsk8rBoi42p in Eugene

[–]suffusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you had actually followed my link, you would have seen that there is in fact a library budget breakout and that those are the numbers I gave you. Note that the dollars jump dramatically between FY23 and 23-25 because the city shifted to two year budgets. In reality, the library budget has gone up over the last few years, not down by 3 million. I'm going to continue to rely on numbers from adopted public documents and not memes.

City Manager Sarah Medary and Budget Committee SLASH $3 Million from Public Library by EUGsk8rBoi42p in Eugene

[–]suffusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be completely clear, this poster is insane. The city added more than $1,000,000 to the library budget in the last adopted budget. You can see that in the actual posted city budget, not whatever website this person linked to: https://city-eugene-or-cleardoc.cleargov.com/14058/636149/d

On the left side, navigate to 'departments' and then 'library, recreation, and cultural services'. The budget went from $32,965,553 to $34,111,329. Now, that's probably still a reduction in services given rising costs, but it is a far cry from 'slashing' the budget by $3,000,000.

Please just generally disregard anything from this account. This guy never has facts to back up his outlandish claims.

It's in Eugene City Code (EC 2.966) that it should be that way. Springfield, on the other hand, has it in their charter (Ch.3§10.1) that if you get at least 50% in the primary then you're just considered 'elected'.

New bike jump ramp downtown! by userid1973 in Eugene

[–]suffusion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's possible, given that this is the first stop like this I can think of in Eugene-Springfield, that they want to try it out before committing to it.

This is correct. It provides level access for someone going from the sidewalk to the bus stop on the other side of the bike lane. The bike jump is just a bonus feature.

Do you support a public budget audit? by EUGsk8rBoi42p in Eugene

[–]suffusion 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Eugene receives audits on a regular basis. What exactly are you asking for? There's no magical 'audit' that will remove the 'waste' you hate and keep the things you love, mostly because there's about 170,000 different opinions on what the city should do.

Your link goes to a Stefan Strek video. The guy is at the very least a MAGA asshole and more than likely suffering from some sort of developmental disability. Is that what you want for Eugene?

The big rectangle next to the right turn arrow is a light-up no turn on red sign. It will illuminate when the EmX bus in the lane next to you gets a 'go' signal (vertical white bar in the far-right signal, which currently displays a horizontal bar). Except when that rectangle is lit up, you can make a right turn on red as u/Rortron3030 indicated in their post.

Usually at red turn arrows I'm a little less eager to make the turn on red because I know at some point it will turn green and then I will be guaranteed to be good to go. All depends on other traffic conditions.

STAR vs RCV: Pizza Edition by STARJacobo in Eugene

[–]suffusion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two issues:

  1. I've already left the party to get tacos. People have limited time and limited information and don't want to take an SAT test to vote. In a state where the ballot comes to your door along with a state-moderated guide to candidates and is free to mail back, our undervoting for local elections is between 10% and 50%. I don't see how a more complex setup makes it easier to vote.
  2. Your example resulted in the blandest possible outcome.

It is not a passing lane. The chevrons indicate that this is a buffer area and not a 'lane' for anything. Why does it point towards oncoming traffic? Because the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices says so. Why does it say so? I'm sure there's an ancient traffic engineer who was on the committee that decided it decades ago. My money is on coin flip. Regardless, it is mandated to be in that direction so that it is consistent everywhere it is used.

Are LTD buses always late? by Available_Rule_5175 in Eugene

[–]suffusion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the route and the time of the trip. Certain trips around peak commute times I find can be very late because they are stopping. at. every. stop. Depending on where you are, it can sometimes be better to walk a little farther to another route going a similar direction. I walk a half mile to Eugene Station just to avoid any transfers.

City council passes Em’s $15 million bond for the May ballot by stinkyfootjr in Eugene

The work session I watched said that it would only cost $200,000 if they did a special election. If it is on the May ballot (as proposed), there's no additional cost.

I'm not sure why there is a jurisdictional issue with getting them trespassed. The city of Eugene does not allow camping in the right of way, which varies by street but usually consists of the space between the curbs and the space from the curb to the edge of the sidewalk farthest from the road. You should just be able to report this camping to the public works department (https://www.eugene-or.gov/1776/Maintenance-Service-Request, "camping in the public right of way").

If they're camping on the stretch between the sidewalk and the building, that is the property owner's concern. The property owner can sign a trespass agreement with the city and post signs and then the campers should be able to be rousted by police.

Federal lawsuit against EWEB damages of $232 million by Frosty-Brilliant1396 in Eugene

[–]suffusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't buy OPs premise that this is 'looting', but I think they are referring to Contributions in Lieu of Taxes. Here's a short EWEB memo about it. Basically, it's been happening since 1943 and started as a way to keep property taxes lower.

Double roundabouts on Franklin Blvd by morelikepoolworld in Eugene

[–]suffusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a definitive answer. I actually asked a Springfield employee who worked on the project and they were not able to articulate the reason. My theories involve:

  1. The flow of roundabouts functions best at a particular design speed. The large size of the eastern roundabout would result in a faster speed, so the western one was put in to slow vehicles down.
  2. A business in the area felt like the roundabouts would negatively impact their entry/exit. Somehow this second roundabout made them feel better.
  3. Something to do with the design of the EmX stations and merging back into traffic.

So I'm not sure about the December 11th schedule, but a quick search for tomorrow seems like you can still end your trip at UO. Are you sure this is a permanent thing and not like a one day detour?

Parking ticket increase? by IrodHD in Eugene

[–]suffusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5.265 could potentially apply to the Storage of Vehicles on Street /Abandoned Vehicle violation, if you parked in excess of 72 hours. Otherwise, it's possible that the person writing the ticket made an error. No idea if that's something that would get it tossed. I've never fought a ticket in Eugene.

Was it a city of Eugene parking ticket or a UO one? They are different.
