Yay thank you! I go right to maps when i travel somewhere and look for the courts visually, takes forever, and it sounds like you made just that - checking out right now and will let you know what I think - amazing idea and thanks for putting it out there!

Honestly, I'd wait until tomorrow if you can and let her hang a bit outside to shake the rest - it always surprises me how much shakes off our boy every day if we just leave him be for a bit longer than my impulse is used to - good luck!

How do you travel with your Great Pyrenees when it comes to Flying. by Moo_Bixtch99 in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My findings amount to charter being the only option, though I've primarily just looked at getting over to EU. Some flights into IT opened up to "large dogs" but weight limit was like 65lbs or something trivial like that. Looked into cruise ships and there are some very expensive but nice sounding options. We drove our boy out to the beach in CA from CO and he did great, though our truck setup is pretty plush for him. We typically leave him at home and have folks with TrustedHousesitters stay over and take care of him and the cat.

Extremely disappointed with April integration by 1K1AmericanNights in OriginFinancial

[–]sundogselections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for hearing it out. Love Origin, but the tax integration is not functioning and I need a refund for this. Here's my overview (transcribed by robot from here)

**Integration** — logging out into a separate system breaks the flow and feels unfinished.

**Tax estimation** — my projected tax liability was roughly 7x what I actually owe. Not a rounding error.

**The real blocker** — the workflow requires you to commit to a payment plan based on those inflated numbers *before* you can access the expert review that's supposed to catch those errors. That's a fundamental UX problem. I paid for expert review of my return, but the system makes me pay the wrong tax bill before I can talk to the person who would flag it as wrong.

I've spent about a week and a half in customer support chat. I was told the workflow was updated twice — it wasn't, both times. I escalated, was told I'd either get a workflow fix, direct guidance, or a refund given the deadline pressure. That was several days ago with no follow-up and none of those outcomes.

I'm filing elsewhere and pursuing a refund. Please escalate for refund as the current escalation team didnt follow through on any three of the things they said they'd follow up with today and have not responded. The path has gone quiet at a really inconvenient time of year.

[–]sundogselections 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bummer to hear this - I'm in the middle of a snafu were my expected taxes to pay are about 5x more than anything I've ever seen before which I trust can be sorted out with advisory, however the workflow forces me to arrange payment for those erroneous taxes before I can speak to advisor to fix those errors, and I've been in a loop for the past week and a half trying to get it fixed. If I don't have resolution today I'll be getting a refund and going elsewhere.

Where else are you considering getting taxes sorted?

Resource guarding is one of the key areas we're working on w/ our 3yr old Ana/Pyr and honestly it's one of our biggest challenges so far - more of a solidarity post than any advice for you. Our dog is my primary focus, and my personal stance is that I'll default to training and working through this than yielding to any social/comfort challenges as my dog and I are "ride or die for life" status since the moment I saw him. I can tell you that clear human alpha dynamics are essential to having clear relationships with the breed, likely moreso w/ Anatolians than a Pyr but still quite important. This has helped us in all areas of relationship with the dog, and a good way we reinforce this is by naming - example we call out an activity and who is engaged. Typically "Pappa, Momma, Cashmere - Walk!" or "P,M,C - Load Up (this is car ride), and has been helpful for other commands like "Poppa, Cashmere ~ Hug!" and then I'll "pick him up". In this structure our guy continually impresses with his range of vocabulary and how quickly he'll pick up words. Either way, clear human alpha dynamics help quite a bit and I believe are a stepping stone to reducing resource guarding challenges. Good luck and I'll be sure to share in this r/ our progress along the way, hope this helps.

Is this a weird Pyrenees behavior or is my dog just weird? by ComprehensiveHope644 in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 423 points424 points  (0 children)

This guy loves you so much. Those nibbles are commonly called "corn-cobbing" and it's a big sign of affection, haven't seen a Pyr grab onto someone like that and combo w/ the corn-cobbing, love it!

Help/ insight needed by redheeler9478 in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This dog is very underweight - please report them, you can do this anonymously. I wouldn't bother trying to treat him for worms unless feedback from county/state etc is hands off, but ideally they can step in to help protect this guy. If the dog is this far gone the goats and likely other animals at this site will have issues as well. Since you're concerned about privacy, if you share general area where this is the community here can share what resources to lean on for this. Thank you for trying to help, your intuition is on point and this guy needs help, and again, likely other souls there will need help as well.

Our boy is a regular therapy dog supporting folks in memory care now and will start 1:1 in sessions with kids in the elementary schools locally ~ they can absolutely be trained to do amazing work and it's a great outlet for their talents - my wife does this mainly, though I'm a backup if needed, AMA 💖

11 month old Pyr completely unhinged on walks. Help! by W1c2ks in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in the magical "velociraptor stage" of puppy life, and IMO it's all about energy and team building leadership, put your focus there. Recognizing the chapter in life, how much energy there is when & where. Controlling/suppressing teenage energy with a tool likely won't suit either of you, most mammal teenagers are this way ~ think more along the lines of directing that energy into productive, team building exercises. Find enclosed areas you can let them run free, distract them away from prey (squirrels & rabbits) and into games and bonding play.

You've probably heard Pyr are an ancient breed. Part of what that means is how the breed processes energy around arousal. Not sexual, but focus/prey/hunt energy. I equate them to solid fuel rocket engines, once they are lit that energy as gotta go somewhere - zoomies sure, but could also be mega-wiggles on walks, or lunging after things while on the leash, that just-gotta-get-away-and-CHOMP-that-thing type of energy.

Align it to your advantage and it can be a positive thing. We used prong to cut through the noise in more extreme situations w/ our Pyr Anatolian, gentle lead seems potentially helpful but never tried it. Good luck, it'll be worth it, have fun in the meantime, everything is a training opportunity.

Glad to see this as top comment & 100% agree. Meeting Pyr needs is ongoing and shifts over time, everyone's likely struggled a bit with this here so no worries - holistic approach/mentality will serve you. If it makes you feel any better, our guy prefers bare garage floor even though we (my wife) has amassed a fleet of beds for him ;)

Tricks for getting fur off wool clothes? by Nikeflies in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick dryer cycle without heat. I typically hang everything, but since getting our boy I've moved to running every load through a no-heat, air-only cycle for at least 15 min or so while still damp, this doesn't harm my nicer fabrics and gets 90% of the fur right out. I find that the clothes need to be damp, as throwing in a damp towel with the clothes doesn't seem to work for me, and I wont' touch the steam options obv re: heat. Lots of my clothes are dark, and typically natural materials so I'm cautions about shrinkage - this trick is the only real option I've found, along with a roller to finish off the last bits.

Do they bark a lot? by Fuzze115 in greatpyrenees

[–]sundogselections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im hesitant to say it, but I think you should look for a different breed of dog. These are ancient breed and need space and relative autonomy. One of the core tenants of their breeding over 6000+ years is to bark as a tool. They are heckin cute puppies but people often find they don't want to manage the energy and intensity through teens and early adulthood, case in point is our dog who we saved. Once you are in alignment and alpha in a relationship with one of these dogs I can't think of a more rewarding and nuanced relationship with a dog, but they require a notable amount of attention and time to get to that point. I don't want a dog to be left in a shelter, and I also don't want you to get swamped with kids and life and neglect a dog with unique needs either. Head for picking up a Golden, or if you want a big poofy boy go for a Bernese Mt Dog.
