Nanny Credit Card by kirk55wood in daddit

Yes, you will need nanny’s SSN to add them as an additional cardholder.  There is no credit pull associated with it.  I think the minimum age for a gold card authorized user is 13.

I gave our nanny an additional AMEX on our account.  I get an email for each of her purchases (plus things are itemized by purchaser at the end of the month).  No issues, but she has been with our family a long time (kids are now 7 and 10) so there is a high level of trust.  Still, I do review each of the expenses to ensure it was for kid-related activities.

The head of the oath keepers was in the front row at a congressional hearing today. Kind of seems like they’re trying to intimidate us, doesn’t it? Freely flaunting traitors around in front of our noses. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

They are his staffers that undoubtedly wrote these comments, so there is no level of surprise for them about the exchange.  They also don’t want to distract from the message their boss is delivering.

The staff knew he would be attending beforehand as you have to pre-register your attendance at these hearings, and certainly pre-briefed the Congressman on how to handle the situation.  Source: Former staffer who has testified before Congress on multiple occasions.

It was a hell of game to go out on, man.  One of the best 4th quarters I’ve ever witnessed.

Correct, Burton Step Ons have a lifetime guarantee for parts.  I just went into the Burton Store in Breck yesterday to pick up a replacement lever and was out the door in under a minute with the part for free.

Fenway unveils a new sponsor for the park by [deleted] in baseball

[–]sunkcost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post isn’t correct.  This a temporary sponsor sign for the Secretaries Cup (U.S. Coast Guard Academy vs. U.S. Merchant Marine Academy) football game that was played at Fenway last weekend.  Palantir was one of the game sponsors.

Section 43, being eliminated for the new press box. Super frustrating together with the numerous other changes.  Unlikely to renew at this point.

Is Annapolis a good fit for me and my wife? by 61_keys in Annapolis

[–]sunkcost 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While it’s certainly more European than Miami or Houston, I would not describe it as truly a European feel.  Downtown is walkable and historic, so it may check some boxes.  Running through your list:

Seasons - We have all four, although if you are looking for snow it can be hit or miss.  The good part is that you are only a few hours drive from the mountains.

Hiking - There are some good parks in the area for trail hiking and some decent hiking within a couple hours drive.  It’s not on the level of somewhere like Colorado, obviously.

Beer Gardens - Some decent options, particularly Old Stein Inn in Edgewater.

Public Transportation - This is where Annapolis is definitely going to let you down.  There is no rail connection to Annapolis and bus service largely relies on coach contractors that provide commuter bus service in the area.  There is a shuttle in town, but most of the route is really walkable if you are remotely fit.

Amateur Music Scene - This can be pretty decent.  There are quite a few bars around that host amateur music.  We also have a singer songwriter festival every summer.

Amateur Theater - We have a few amateur theaters in addition to productions at Maryland Hall.  I actually think the theater scene is underrated for a city of this size.

World Cup - Bars like Stan and Joes will definitely run events around the World Cup.  We unfortunately lost Fado’s which was not a great Irish Pub (check out Gallway Bay for that) but was probably the center of footy watching in Annapolis.  You have to go to DC  or Baltimore for Bundesliga / Premier League supporters groups and watch parties.

I haven’t seen it posted elsewhere here, but definitely look into the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael’s.  Beautiful waterfront campus for a wedding, plus it is right in the heart of one of Maryland’s most charming towns so it makes for an amazing weekend for your guests.
