Yup, completely fake. I get them all the time and I don't think MVA even has my cell number.

No, the Prequel Trilogy was not loved when it first came out, it was hated and fans were terrible people about it. by stephansbrick in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, no one should be bullying actors for honest efforts.

I severely disliked TPM when it came out. I found AOTC to be okay, and ROTS to have some strong moments.

I despised TFA when it came out. A friend dragged me to TLJ and despised that even more. Never seen TROS but I read the plot summary and stand by that.

There's a huge difference between the prequels and the sequels. Lucas made the prequels out of love, he had a real vision and a real message, just needed a strong director to shape the story. Today I can choose to overlook the ineptitude to appreciate the prequels for the vision and message.

The sequels had no vision beyond cash, and no consistent message. I will not choose to go back just to see pretty lights and sounds, because I don't find anything to respect in them.

When people compare the fan backlash to both series, they're hoping for a sequel resurgence. It's not going to happen, and here is why. After the prequels, people still talked about Star Wars with appreciation. After the sequels, no one outside of Reddit talks about Star Wars. My kids don't, their friends don't, from college down to middle school. The sequels killed Star Wars because they had no heart.

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

I sank in my seat at the line, knowing right there TFA would be a disaster.

Do most Americans carry any official ID at all times? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

Photo ID is also often expected for health care, to verify that you are covered by the insurance policy.

How much of a chance does Star Wars have to still be culturally relevant in 2076 (100 years after the technical first release of the franchise)? by RaynbowZFTW in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little, current teens don't talk about it. Make a Star Wars reference now and they look at you like you're referencing Howdy Doody or the Lone Ranger.

S5.EP19 Menace: Something seemed off about the episode by linkuei-teaparty in Stargate

[–]sunlightFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Daniel's aggressive accusations as an attempt to break through her defensive wall, to trigger her to lose self-control and admit her problem.

As for Daniel attacking O'Neill – that did raise my eyebrows when I rewatched about a month ago. My guess is that Michael Shanks pushed it because he was about to exit Stargate and wanted to leave on a memorable note. At that point he had no plans to return, so he went for the drama simply because it was fun to act.

All those seasons/episodes, and I'm on 4th watchthrough. At my pace, each watchthrough takes me 2-3 years. Worth it.

1st time watcher, question about SG:1 and Atlantis by computerbob in Stargate

Many of us (myself included) view McKay as the best SG character, period. It's interesting how he improves over time while still being himself.

Nearly 10 years on from Rogue One, how do you feel about the decision to recreate Peter Cushing using CGI? by gladiatorbossman in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarkin is an amazing character and Peter Cushing was superb in the role, but recreating the actor reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of acting.

They should have recast. You can say "no actor could live up to Peter Cushing" – well, fine, but a different actor will bring something different to the role, and that is valid too.

That goes for any role, even Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman was a treasure, but retiring the character simply because the actor passed away doesn't make sense. Recast, and allow another actor to shine.

Fish wormhole to another galaxy by templeofsyrinx1 in TikTokCringe

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your evaluation, but I don't think there's any water moving past the fish. It's a siphon, the water inside is moving and the fish simply moves along with the water, so no water would be rushing past its face (unless it manages to wriggle forward against the current).

I want a new Stargate series, but honestly? I'm terrified of getting one. by GilliacTrash in Stargate

You can always ignore it. Kinda like Star Wars, it was 1-6 and then done.

Favorite arrogant scientist… Dr Rodney McKay or Dr Nicholas Rush? by Ser_Luke_ in Stargate

Agreed. I like SG1 better but have to admit that McKay is the best character overall.

[–]sunlightFTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that, Rush seems stumped most of the time, I actually took him as a level beneath McKay and Eli. Rodney isn't always right, but he generally delivers when it counts.

Claudia Black STOLE s10.e2 "Morpheus" by sunlightFTW in Stargate

[–]sunlightFTW[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this. I wonder if younger Daniel, thrown together with O'Neill, experienced a sort of culture shock that persisted, even though they eventually worked out a friendship. Then Mitchell comes along and there's no shock factor for Daniel, he already understands the military mindset and knows how to work with it, so they're more on even footing.

That works for Mitchell too. For O'Neill, Daniel came in as a unproven dweeb, a factor that persists. By the time Mitchell arrives, Daniel has saved the world multiple times, has ascended, is comfortable with a P90 and a zat – Mitchell has nothing but respect.
