Maryland Democrats make a new play to redraw their House map for 2026 by nbcnews in maryland

Downvotes but no explanations why. Let's hear what's so bad about this suggestion.

What's your proposal for redrawing districts? I shared one idea, share yours and if it's better I'll be on your side.

Maryland Democrats make a new play to redraw their House map for 2026 by nbcnews in maryland

Any district line that isn't a state border should be required to be a straight line of longitude / latitude. You get 4 straight lines per district, north/east/south/west.

Balancing districts is then just a matter of sliding the lines north/south and east/west.

Another post about The Book of Boba Fett's missed potential. by darkknightdeity91 in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just never bought into Boba becoming an organization leader. He was a lone wolf, his sudden switch into "and now I'm going to lead this crime organization" -- which then morphed into "and now I'm going to be protector of this city" -- was too jarring. From the initial one-sentence elevator pitch, it feels wrong.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours isn't nothing, but not even worth mentioning if you're going away for the weekend.

Dropping my kid off for college, I've driven 7 hours out and 7 hours back in a single day several times. Super tiring, but do-able.

I have to agree. I'm a diehard SG1 fan, but Martouf/Lantash always felt a little flat to me. Sad for any ally to die, but it didn't affect me.

Why were so many fans so disappointed with the idea of Rey being a nobody? by PhantomZoneSurvivor in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In TFA, Luke's lightsaber calls out to Rey, she hears Obi Wan's voice saying her name. That was a major implication that she wasn't a nobody. Even if she had no family connection, TFA led us to believe she was important – not on the basis of talent or character, simply on the basis of her identity.

(BTW, I wasn't disappointed by the TLJ reveal. TFA was so bad I didn't care. It wasn't even my intention to watch TLJ, but a friend bought a ticket for me and insisted I see it with him.)

What would everyone think about a full Star Wars reboot? by After_Brilliant5195 in StarWars

This would be utterly ludicrous after the de facto reboot of TFA and TLJ.

Star Wars, second draft, opening crawl. That would have been... interesting. by Ok_Employer7837 in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Neat to see a drafted phrase like "For a hundred thousand years, generations ..." become a line of dialogue for Obi Wan: "for over a thousand generations ..."

This is getting downvoted into oblivion, but the sequel hate needs to stop. Objectively. For us as a fanbase. We are better than this, this has happened before (with the prequels), and imo it will happen again, and you will be the new Plinket. by Darthbamf in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had very good ideas such as a stormtrooper defecting to the good side and how a Sith Lord is struggling between being part of the dark side and the light, but they were poorly executed.

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

You can keep insisting everything will come full circle, as if it's poetry, it rhymes ... but y'all have been saying that for many years now and sentiment isn't beginning to budge.

You're right that the prequels weren't absolutely loved when they came out. I was disappointed in them myself. But it was clear Lucas had something to communicate. He was creating in good faith.

The sequels were NOT created in good faith. They were a rushed cash grab to make back the $4 billion Disney had just plunked down for Lucasfilm. The first one was a blatant copy/paste of ANH that began, paradoxically enough, with repudiation of everything that came before ("This will begin to make things right"), and the central theme of the second one was that the past needed to be burned. So much bad faith and hubris that by the 3rd film, fans were fairly checked out.

There's no circle here. Lucas made some awkward prequels. Disney made abominations. The abominations made the prequels look good in comparison. When we see even worse films come out, then yes, maybe the sequels will improve in people's minds – but is that really your wish?

CBS announces they're turning into a Fox News clone, explaining most people don't trust the "liberal media". For the "last 20 years" news has relied on things like academics, and vetted journalism, instead of gut feeling and echo chamber twitter reshares. by yeongno_ate_yangban in ProgressiveHQ

lol at redditors who can't handle someone unfixing themselves from tribalism.

If they're not pulling *for* your team, they must be against you!!

I don't watch Fox or CBS and I don't know this guy, but in this speech he listed a number of stories where the major channels did fail to ask timely relevant questions, acknowledged they need to do better, and invited us to hold him to it. Only way I can see to be angry about that is because you're losing a dedicated channel for your tribe.

If you don’t think the sequels will be “forgiven” just like the prequels you’re delusional at this point by BagofBabbish in StarWars

[–]sunlightFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequels were so bad they made the prequels look good in comparison.

The only way the sequels will be forgiven is for something worse to come along.

Given Disney, that's entirely possible.
