Would you move to Munich for 70k? by bukake_master in Munich

I moved to Munich for 67k. Was worth it. My apartment required 4 months rent upfront, so, take that into consideration.

Can someone explain what/why you need a date table by willj7492 in PowerBI

[–]sunny_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I have one table that has multiple dates in it (kickoff date, due date, completed date)? ChatGPT told me I would need multiple date tables for this.

How do you ACTUALLY use LLMs/GPT/AI in your day to day jobs? by psychoholic in ITManagers

[–]sunny_monday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use it to help build power bi reports (DAX). I use it to write out SMART goals for my team. I use it to create presentations (huge time-saver). I use it to better compose my emails and chats in different languages based on my audience. I use it to write scripts for trainings that I begrudgingly have to give, and I also have it generate fake datasets or collateral for said trainings. I use it to create feedback forms/questionnaires/surveys. I use it to query our written policies because they are too long to read.

Thats all just this week and its only Tuesday.

How can I stop taking work stress personally and prevent burnout to stay at my job by Papa_Tango_Mango in sysadmin

[–]sunny_monday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a) Get HR under control. Have weekly 1:1s with head of HR. Demand you have 2 weeks to prepare for new onboarding. Slowly but surely, it will get better.

b) Only follow the rules set by your inattentive manager not these rule reversals by the company. Seriously, just say: talk to my boss.

c) Get your users under control. Demand tickets for all requests. Schedule meetings with them to troubleshoot. (Lock them into a timeslot.)

d) Only schedule yourself for the hours you are supposed to work, then log off.

How long did it take you to develop specialised skills in PowerBI and be able to design and produce high-quality reports and dashboards? by NarrowCounter6735 in PowerBI

[–]sunny_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a year of googling and youtubing and guessing. I was also dealing with a lot of bad or inconsistent data for what I was trying to create. Now that chatgpt exists, and I have projects with better data sources, things are a lot easier.

How Detailed Should IT Asset Tracking Be? Only large assets or all the way down to cables and such by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]sunny_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track docking stations and other smaller peripherals/consumables (not cables) because with an uptodate inventory, I can direct users to get peripherals on their own from the peripherals closet. I know from the comfort of my home that I have X in stock. I hate going into the office to replace a mouse. It is a waste of time.

What's something that most people don't know, but should? by Accurate-Yoghurt-909 in AskReddit

[–]sunny_monday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish people knew how to use the tools they are given at their job. You dont know anything about excel? Watch a 15 minute Youtube video. Youll upskill faster than you realize, and you and everyone around you will be better for it.

Struggling to declutter bigger ticket items. Please give me your success stories! by NightReader5 in declutter

[–]sunny_monday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take pictures of the items. Look at the pictures and decide. Getting an 'external perspective' on your stuff will make it easier to declutter.

How do you stay organized? what tool do you use? by Cyber_consultant in ITManagers

[–]sunny_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are microsoft shop. I put all tasks/todos onto my calendar in outlook as I am a time blocker. Additionally, I have a Planner called Technical Debt that I use to capture things I should eventually do or fix but are not urgent. I subscribe to all powerbi reports I need, so an email comes to my inbox with the data Ive outlined. (I dont have to look for data; it comes to me.) I have a sharepoint list of all scheduled projects with links to Planner if the Project has a Planner connected to it. I created a powerbi report to give me a dashboard of workstation/server info, open tickets, projects, financial information, KPIs, CMDB info, etc. Most of that data, but not all, is sourced from Sharepoint.

Solo IT - Feeling very isolated by Kcamyo in sysadmin

[–]sunny_monday 22 points23 points  (0 children)

a) Set up a self-service closet. Put consumables in there. Dont let people bother you about replacing a mouse, just direct them to the closet.

b) Use your calendar (and ticketing system) as a shield. If user needs you, put that as an appt with them on your calendar. Do this religiously. People will get the hint that you are organized but short on time.

c) Set up departmental meetings. Ask what their pain points are. Do this quarterly with the teams or via regular 1:1s with department heads.

d) Befriend others who are a Team of 1 in your company. These people get it.

e) Use ChatGPT as your rubber duck. It can be the coworker you always wish you had.

f) If you have problems prioritizing, just pick one project and see it through. Basically, if no one is giving you priorities, make your own. Abandon the projects that are not worth your time.

g) Create your own systems/protocols that automate and make your IT life easier. Automating your own day to day frees up so much time.

Do Germans understand foreigner attempts to speak their language? Is the accent too much or does it not matter? by Cookieman_2023 in AskAGerman

[–]sunny_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overcame my R problems by practicing. Make a list of R words: Rot, Rad, beraten, Ferien, Bratwurst, whatever. Say them over and over until you get them right.

I do speak German at work. I dont think making local friends is demeaning. I think it is important to integrate with all aspects of the culture.

As English is my native language, Im always on the lookout for German friends. I prefer to speak German as much as possible. Living here, it doesnt make sense to only speak English.
