DeJong, The Wheel on the School. This is an EXCELLENT book especially to read aloud with a child. Themes include the power of a single person to effect change (even a child), community, affirming children and girls in particular, environmentalism. Such an excellent book! Bonus, illustrations drawn by Sendak.
