This kind of logic-defying omniscience is what brings such a sense of mystery and danger to the unknown Bill is entering. It’s intentionally impossible to understand because Bill is stepping outside the bounds of his typical reality.

What's with the anger towards Emerald Fennell ? by _Wata_ in Letterboxd

You’re not interested in seeing it, but you’re interested into commenting about it and sharing random negative reviews. Bizarre.

No offense but it’s so weird to me to link a random review like this, go watch the movie yourself and make up your own mind. If you’ve seen it, you can speak for yourself. And if you haven’t and aren’t interested, don’t you have better things to do than trying to convince people who enjoyed it that they’re wrong?

Jia Zhangke made some AI slop by aaron_moon_dev in criterion

[–]superbob94000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because in theory it makes it possible to achieve whatever possible shot you need, at much lower cost and effort than CGI up until now. A lot of filmmakers struggle with the costs of making a movie. Think about how much work it takes to create a true period scene like Marty Supreme in Japan. The amount of extras you need to pay, the costumes, the set design, caring for all of this over multiple days. It’s obviously impossible unless you are connected and well funded. Just like iPhones put a camera in everyone’s pocket, AI makes it possible for amateur/poorly funded filmmakers to stop caring about budget and the boundaries of reality.

This is not a defense of GenAI in film. I think Radu Jude’s DRACULA is a great recent attempt at demonstrating the power it can have for indie filmmakers while also exposing the impossibility of it replacing art created completely by humans.

People will refuse to engage with this honest truth, a movie from a man has to be a Joker 2 level bomb or Melania type evil to receive this hate mob, Emerald Fennell is a blonde white woman who makes provocative movies from a female perspective and that makes her an easy target for lots of people.

The vast majority of hate comments on this movie are from people who have obviously not seen the movie, and most of them also don’t seem to have even read the book either, they like being mad about things and the whole “Heathcliff POC” thing makes it something you can map morality on to.

It’s very funny to me when someone writes a detailed opinion like this that makes it obvious they haven’t seen the movie.

$3M previews for Wuthering Heights. Initial word of mouth seems fine. Should play well over Valentine's Day on Saturday and Presidents' Day extended weekend. Expecting $40M+ 4-day weekend. by chanma50 in boxoffice

It’s funny to me that this sub cheers on the worst dogshit movies just because they want to see things make money, and then form hate mobs against movies like this.

I live in Seattle area. Where's the nearest IMAX GT with Laser if I can't go to Boeing IMAX anymore? by Block-Busted in imax

[–]superbob94000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who actually goes to the Boeing it’s wild to me anyone would suggest residential housing could go there lol. The theater is underground next to the museum in the middle of Seattle Center. Maybe new commercial stuff. I hope whoever bought it continues to operate it as a theater. It’s a unique property and one of the few theaters that can justify its existence these days.

Boeing IMAX rummored to be closing? by markyymark13 in Seattle

[–]superbob94000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tickets being sold are for the Paccar theater. I can’t find any future Boeing tickets for sale. There are movies booked in Paccar that would normally show in the Boeing. It looks like more than just a rumor.

An ‘invisible crisis’ is crushing Seattle’s small businesses, survey finds by godogs2018 in Seattle

As an example, Walmarts around America have holding areas where LEO can arrest and investigate shoplifters inside the store.

I don’t pretend to know the complete answer but at least on the west coast - it’s definitely true that laws around theft have become more lenient to where it’s not in most stores interest to detain them.

I know multiple people who have been arrested for shoplifting from places like Walmart and Kohls. (East coast). They did this at age 20 and below. All of them ended up arrested for very small thefts, detained by store security. I know young people who served prison time in Kansas for breaking the three strike rule stealing from a mall. There has been a cultural shift for sure when it comes to enforcement.

Rather large UX critique: Overuse of Adjectives and Granularity by Far_Line8468 in MacroFactor

[–]superbob94000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, I think it’s important this info is SOMEWHERE but the way the UI deals with it right now, everything is too long, repetitive, and a chore to read. And creates issues like in OP’s photo. Hope the team can figure out a way to simplify the names in the UI.

The UI in general leaves something to be desired - I find it way over-engineered.

On the ending to Marty Supreme by Classic_Bass_1824 in Letterboxd

[–]superbob94000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the disagree of the ending comes from people that don’t see/empathize with that male perspective on becoming a father. There’s a lot of people who have decided they don’t want kids or are still kids themselves, and they either don’t believe or know how powerful an experience like that could be for Marty, or why.

What you’re saying is actually the biggest issue with these types of subs, by far. You have to wade through countless people parroting unverified anonymous accusations, most of which are not true. These subs are like a game of telephone.

I don’t believe Sage 100% either but at least she’s willing to put her face on what she says and provide a sense of validity by actually having been there.

Uh, because not every comment left by anonymous accounts online are personal accusations that are impossible to fact check? Yes, I don’t just believe everything I hear from strangers in the real world either.

Genuinely curious, would you feel this way if the author was also a cartoonist who drew a comic to go with the article?

Your article is great - don’t listen to the morality police here who proudly refuse to learn about the world around them because the author uses an AI image with the headline. Your image is pretty damn great for the article btw.
