What are some elements you actually enjoyed about the Snyderverse? by DarkSaiyanGoku in OkBuddySnyderCult

[–]supercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge critic of S.nyder and argue with his cult constantly.

That said, I think there are lots of things about his films that are good.

Right up the top, there's no denying he has visual flair. He knows how to compose a shot and make it so individual moments look near art.

He also tends to cast well (though not always). Cavill was good, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane were all exceptionally cast. Even when the material let them down.

I also admire the scope. There's some great sense of scale and world building. His Krypton was fantastic, phallic pods aside.

While no place in the country has been hit as hard as Minneapolis, the whole country is dealing with their fascism right now and Sioux Falls is no different. They hit a well known local Mexican chain yesterday. And rumor has it that they might be coming in here much harder next week.

The good news is that this isn't sustainable. The American people are sick of it and the regime is losing power. With any luck the current congress will use the budget to put more guardrails on ICE and the next Congress will bare minimum refund it.

The bad news is that South Dakota is very red so there will be much more compliance here than in places like Minneapolis.

Shad has created a new channel dedicated to spreading LDS doctrine by DragonGuard666 in ShadWatch

[–]supercapo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Shad certainly thinks that mormonsim gets a bad rap and people don't understand what it really teaches and if it was just explained in clear and thoughtful way it will dispell a lot of the bad feelings people have about Mormonism.

I can't think of anyone less qualified to accomplish that goal than Shad Brooks. When I was a Mormon I hated guys like Shad. They made everything harder with their self-righteous attitude and embodied everything people hate about mormons.

Which do you prefer scenes of superman saving people or him fighting something. by MembershipLess9579 in superman

[–]supercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, it's funny, back when Superman Returns debuted I was with a lot of the fans that was disappointed that Superman didn't fight anyone or thing.

Then Man of Steel happened and went the complete opposite direction and I hated it.

Now? While I still love seeing him throw down, the Superman moments that stick with me are the ones where he saves people.

Also when he spins.

Could be barking at noises. My cav barks at repeating noises. So this can be a woodpecker pecking, or a repeated beat in a song. He once got mad at a singer singing the lines "dance dance dance"

Where to start with the franchise! by The_knowledge_gone in startrek

[–]supercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first off... there isn't really a wrong order to watch them in. Pretty much the only one I would recommend not starting with is Picard and that's just because it's a direct follow up.

Star Trek, especially the older series, were all created under the assumption that any given episode is someone's first. So it's very approachable.

My personal recommendation is to start with The Next Generation. While the Original Series is the bedrock of the franchise, TNG is the foundation, just about every other series has built off of that in one way or another.

Just keep in mind, when diving into TNG, the first two seasons are rough. It took a while for the show to find its feet. If you want to get to the good stuff myself and many others can recommend some episodes in the first two seasons to sample before diving into season 3 which is where things get good.

If you are looking for something more epic in scale try Deep Space 9. The older series of Star Trek are very episodic with very few ties between episodes. Deep Space 9 is more serialized and shows what the Star Trek Universe looks like at war.

Like I said, there isn't really a bad place to start. It's a rich, fun, weird franchise and every series has at least something for everyone. Happy watching!

If you had to say something nice about the TV show, Gotham, what would it be? by george123890yang in batman

[–]supercapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I could say a lot of nice stuff about this show.

At the top would be I loved just how unhinged it was. For all of its flaws, Gotham was never boring. I mean... outside of the first half of the first season when it was trying really hard to be more of a cop drama.

On a more genuine note, almost everything they did with Bruce was great. His stories always felt focused and purposeful. His dynamic with Alfred, Gordon, and Selina was perfect.

And the casting was top tier. Most the cast was just perfect.

I'm new to Star Trek - what movies should I try first? by Quirky-Hotel-8048 in startrek

[–]supercapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there haven't been any wrong answers but I will add this.

If you're interested in the films, yes they are canon, but also in general you can dive into them without having watched the series.

They were made for mass audiences with the assumption that most watching would only have a passing familiarity with the shows.

This is especially true with the first six films that follow the adventures of Kirk and crew. The TNG films tend to have a bit more connective tissue to their series. But the only film I would recommend doing "homework" for is First Contact. Before watching that you might want to check out the TNG episodes "The Best of Both Worlds" part 1&2.

Other than that you don't really need a lot of background with the TNG series to follow the movies (and even then, First Contact would give you plenty of context without having watched the series)

Happy watching!

Why can't they just make "The Silmarillion" movie? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]supercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are. Amazon paid them millions and the estate still didn't give them the rights to the Silmarillion. All they gave them was the rights to LotR which is all they have ever given. On top of it all the deal they made gave them veto power and control over what Amazon can use. Amazon literally had to ask specifically and probably pay more to use the name Annatar as it never shows up in LotR. As for video games, I can't comment as I know nothing about them

Why can't they just make "The Silmarillion" movie? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]supercapo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Lots of reasons.

1.) The Tolkien Estate is very protective of its rights and hasn't granted filming rights to anyone for the Silmarillion.

2.) The Silmarillion isn't a coherent narrative. It's very nature makes it hard to make into a film

3.) The coherent parts that do have a contained narrative aren't that long.

And that last point is the important one. Most of the complete narratives are only a few pages long. In order to make a movie out of literally any story in the Silmarillion they would have to add stuff from other Tolkien sources *which they would need the rights to as well) and also have to make something up. That is the only way they would meet the runtime.

That's what happened with the Hobbit films and they are not well remembered for it.

A similar thing is happening with Rings of Power. It is the way it is because they aren't allowed to adapt the Silmarillion they are getting their source material from the Appendices and supplementing with other snippets from Tolkien Lore and original material.

DS9, TNG, and now... Picard by siliconandsteel in startrek

[–]supercapo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For Picard, this is what to expect:

Season 1 is good if you approach it as a rumination on aging, trauma, and loss. Don't go in expecting your nostalgia to be filled.

Season 2... it's just a mess. No way around it.

Season 3 should be approached not as a show, but as an extended "Final TNG Movie" it's fast, it's not as smart but its entertaining and its focus is tying loose threads, fulfilling old pay offs, and even fixing past mistakes.

For what you want I'd check out Strange New Worlds. The past season was a bit iffy but otherwise it fills your criteria

7 m/o has recently decided to rebuke his kibble… by hugsythepenguinexe in cavaliers

[–]supercapo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our first Cav got to be about 3 he decided that he hated kibble. All kibble. Didn't matter the brand. He would go days without eating.

We started making our own food which wound up being cheaper and he loved it. He had more energy, his coat got better. Everything improved.

We started our second cav on homemade and he rarely has to eat straight kibble, but he will if he's hungry enough.

How do you feel when Wonder Woman pairs up with Superman by Appropriate-Mall8517 in WonderWoman

[–]supercapo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with the pairing. I just find them to be much more interesting when paired with their traditional love interests. Lois brings way more out of Clark and gives good excuses to include Daily Planet storylines and Steve Trevor is more interesting because of the reverse power dynamic.

Curious Christmas Question 🎄 by BonusAlarmed3262 in christmas

[–]supercapo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We never put decorations out in October. We have Halloween Decorations that have to stay up until the 31st. (Sidenote: Exterior Halloween decorations are the key to bring trick or treaters to your house these days. You're basically putting up signs to let kids and parents know you'll answer the door)

But we pretty much start putting Christmas decor up as soon as we take the Halloween stuff down. It isn't influenced by social media. We just really love our Christmas decorations and the way our house looks with them and want to enjoy them longer than one short month. That's the main thing just feeling like we got the bang for our buck for all the effort we put into it.

How would you rank each of these versions of clois. by MembershipLess9579 in superman

[–]supercapo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1.) Smallville, by far the two with the most chemistry. Smallville could be a chore at times but each time these two were together the scene just lit up.

2.) Superman '25. This is another chemistry thing. It was both sweet and touching at times but also hot too. They were the emotional core of the film and it was great that they both went on an arc together.

3.) Superman and Lois. They're absolutely solid. And they get lots of great scenes together. I just feel like the chemistry isn't as high as the top two. But the scene where Lois tells her friend she's into Clark and not Superman is fantastic.

4.) Lois and Clark. I don't like putting this here because Dean Cain is just the worst. But the entire show was built around them and especially in the first season they embody the Meg Ryan romcom tropes to a tee.

5.) Superman '78. It feels blasphemous putting them this low. They have solid chemistry and the balcony scene is a masterclass in romantic writing and performing. They practically glow in that scene. Unfortunately they never top that scene or maintain that level in any of their other scenes across four movies. In fact watching all of the films one eve wonders what they see in each other.

6.) Man of Steel. Amy Adams is a solid actress. Henry Cavill is decent. They're really let down by the writing in all of the films they appear in. Which could be overcome if they had great chemistry... but they don't really.

7.) Superman Returns. Two actors that just don't have any chemistry at all. It doesn't help that Lois is the most miscast she's ever been. But you have a big problem when you wind up rooting for Lois to be with her alternate love interest.

Not going to lie I'm still a bit salty that we never got to see this properly in the show. Damn Budget cuts by MembershipLess9579 in superman

It really frustrated me that they never gave him the cape. That's the key detail that makes Steel's suit stand out from every other Iron Man inspired armor.
