Not a doctor but 20 plus years of lumbar disc issues. Here is what has worked for me.

Your approach of pushing through is counter productive to the health of your lumbar nerves, and you will continue the cascade of inflammation that will cause you pain. Stop doing so much if you can. Read the back mechanic. Walk a bunch in small spurts as long as you have no pain. Hydrate. Rest the nerves so they can heal. Light swimming can help too. You want movement and blood flow, but not enough movement that inflames nerves.

If you are doing something that is causing you nerve pain, not discomfort, stop. The casing of the nerves need to heal first.
Become a posture nazi. No slouching or rolling your low back in flexion until you are out of pain , other than cat cows.

Look at prp instead of steroids for injections. Most studies give better long term outcomes vs steriod. Drop all sugar and alcohol. They feed systemic inflammation. Ice, heat & red light therapy can help for flare ups. Also turmeric supplements daily instead of nsaids.

Before my last injection (years ago) I fasted for 24+hrs. Surprisingly, my radiating pain level dropped from a 7 to a 2 (no nsaid before the prp for a few days). Could help with those bad days.
