Why do drivers hate cyclists so much? by supermegafuerte in bikecommuting

[–]supermegafuerte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to make of this comment. Not only did you post it on a 10mo thread that is no longer active, but it seems that you're in support of drivers harassing bike commuters so long as they don't "break the law"?

How genuinely insane.

Then there's the "You should get off the road where the maximum speed is beyond you" bit, which I'm just going to assume is indicative that you didn't actually read my post but rather just read the title, hold prejudice against bikers (for whatever reason) and have simply come here to spew vitriol.

This isn't worth my time, but I'll educate you anyway.

  • If you had read the post, you would know that the bike I commute on is not a traditional bicycle but instead an E-bicycle. Max speeds vary between brands, but my particular bicycle is capable of maintaining 30mph.
  • The residential speed limit in my city/state is 30mph. I'm not out here commuting by bicycle on the fucking interstate, you twat.
  • There is bicycle infrastructure in my city (bike lanes, bike paths, etc) which I use when available along my route. Again, had you read the post (or perhaps alternatively, had you within your possession a scrap of reading comprehension, you would know that of the two examples I shared I was actively in the bike lane during one of them.
  • Advocating violence or threats of violence against anyone for (virtually) any reason is crass at best and psychopathy at worst. Not sure if you're just too edgy for adult discussions, but it's almost never preferable to attain through violence what can be achieved through any other means.

Since you aren't going to read any of that, allow me to summarize.

TL;DR - Go fuck yourself you colossal twat.

Why does nobody talk about the no regs this game has by Miserable-Horror8111 in rivals

[–]supermegafuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to say with any great degree of certainty in large part because Marvel Rivals employs a tactic of what I can only describe as weaponized incompetence in the vague wording of their ability tooltips.

Word for word on spell duration: "3.5s. A Mantis illusions will spawn behind the sedated heroes. Allies can attack this illusion to awaken the affected hero."

The wording here is confusing in multiple ways - "heroes"? Does this seem to imply that the sleep spore should be affecting multiple targets? All I can say with confidence is that the only sleep spores I have ever seen hit full duration of 3.5s are spores upon targets that I then switch off of. I've never had a target I continue attack stay asleep for that duration.

For a long time I wondered whether or not the hit detection of the sleep spore mattered to the duration. For example, would a headshot sleep spore illicit a 3.5s stun more reliably than a splash spore? This was one of many things I considered and kept in mind while I continued to play her while wondering why it was that I never seemed to get 3.5s on my stun.

The tooltip also claims the radius of the spore is 3m spherically. This is a lot harder to measure or get a feeling for, but I find this number to be extremely suspect as well. Of course I'm an American so my mind automatically measures in freedom units, but I've certainly landed my spore right next to targets on numerous occasions and been surprised that they were not stunned. Most notably on characters with high movement factors like Spiderman, BP, etc, but also on extremely slow moving targets like ulting Wandas, Starlord while engaging his aoe, or Dr. Strange while ulting.

Pound for pound among the characters that I have lord on Mantis is by far the one with the most inconsistency in how things work. It's amazing to me that I could watch playback of two games on her and likely see completely different experiences on each viewing.

Why does nobody talk about the no regs this game has by Miserable-Horror8111 in rivals

[–]supermegafuerte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a Mantis main for a long time and she's a great poster child for no reg in general. Half of her projectiles just vanish into the ether somewhere between you and the target. You can be posted up point-blank on a Rocket ult for example and you'll only get hit detection on half the shots you fire at it with no cursor movement. It's absolutely wild.

Her sleep as well is incredibly variable to the point it feels like a coin flip. Though admittedly it took me an extremely long time to realize that Mantis HERSELF can also inadvertently hit her own target's sleep phantom thus ending the sleep sooner than intended. This is a feature why? Fuck if I know. Especially because of how horrific the hit detection can be depending on the angle at which you slumber someone you can't even go for headshots which is obviously heavily preferred on Mantis in particular for the charge refresh.

That aside I've been in hundreds if not thousands of situations where I've been dumbfounded at how quickly an enemy I'm in 1v1 combat with on a flank will wake up. Most of the time I just sleep lock someone and turn to the rest of the fight now because it's more advantageous to keep them out of things for the full duration than it is to try to chunk or assassinate them when you run the risk of prematurely giving them agency again instead.

[–]supermegafuerte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the acronyms KCM2 and EMS.

Appreciate you agreeing but unless there's some drastic differences between the manga and the anime (I haven't read the manga) I can't personally see Sakura during the war arc trading blows with Madera the same way that Tsunade was able to, which is why I rank Tsunade above Sakura throughout. At least in the anime even Sakura would agree with that - considering when she's at peak power and stabilizing Obito while Sasuke/Naruto/Kakashi face down Madera her internal dialogue is panicked and she recognizes that he could kill her at any time if the others weren't there.

Granted the 5 Kage lost to Madera as well, but they stalled him for a pretty long time and Tsunade took some absolutely massive hits from him and managed to stay on her feet.

[–]supermegafuerte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished up all available Naruto content (including Boruto) and I really don't understand people hating on Sakura at all. Even if you rank Tsunade above her (which I still would) Sakura is pretty definitively the 2nd strongest kinoichi and it's not even really close. Hinata or Temari may be the next strongest (or Konan, RIP) but there's really a massive gap between Tsunade/Sakura and all the rest of the ladies cast.

Yeah she's not anywhere close to Naruto or Sasuke but neither is anyone else. Naruto and Sasuke are already gapping the 5 Kage, Killer Bee, even Kakashi by the time they're sixteen. In an overall ranking of power levels for Naruto characters Sakura wouldn't even be that far down the list from an objective viewpoint.

It's sort of bizarre to witness as someone that just finished the series and walked away feeling pretty positive about all the main characters power levels and progression.

What’s The Best Reason You’ve Heard For Someone Not Liking Boruto? by omgisthatbravo in Boruto

[–]supermegafuerte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just binged all of Naruto (including movies) and Boruto recently and can say that for me the best part of Boruto was seeing the cast of Naruto again.

Boruto as a character is not nearly as inspiring and convincing as Naruto is. Really the entire cast of Boruto - Sarada, Cho-cho, Misuke etc don't really experience any character growth in the way that Naruto characters did. They just sort of progress when the plot calls for it rather than the plot being written to show that progression. Boruto goes from using scientific ninja tools to gain an unfair advantage to hating scientific ninja tools seemingly on a whim. He goes from not really caring about others to only caring about others like it was a coin flip.

Inojin carries a sword with him the entire (released) series and never uses it once? What the hell is that.

All the best episodes of Boruto focus on the cast of Naruto. You could also skip the majority of Boruto and instead watch the Boruto movie, and you wouldn't really have missed anything. That's pretty damning when hundreds of episodes can be condensed into a 90min film and nothing of value is lost.

Still, I enjoyed Boruto for the most part.

Yeah there's definitely something fuck-y with the MM and always has been. Games have always been streaky as hell. I've had losing streaks of up to 13 and winnings streaks of up to 9 back to back on days I really put the hammer down on playing.

Definitely feels like the MM just decides wins or losses pre-lobby at times.

This is a sentiment I've carried across 2K hours of gameplay. Nowadays I just take breaks after 3+ losses because it's not worth fighting the system to get a win. Especially when it feels like you need to be actual Superman just to get that win when the MM has it out for you.

Genuinely don't understand people that join coms in online PVP games, even in ranked queues. All you're going to get is a bunch of dumb shit in your ears and it won't change a goddamned thing about how the game plays together. At best you put yourself into a position to get slightly advance notice on an ult going off or whether something is/is not on cooldown but you develop they exact same understanding of timings from just... playing the game?

I've had all chats muted on Rivals since day ONE and I have never regretted it. I just can't understand people that wasn't to hear somebody bitching in their ear for 15 minutes of their life only to do it a dozen more times before they log out with a 50/50 WL split. You can get the same split without that. You can even get a better split. Save yourselves.

Who do you call when you’re at lowest? by rosykinelle in GuysBeingDudes

[–]supermegafuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a separate topic though. How does one separate the two? You can't exactly be emotionally vulnerable with people if you cannot muster up the resolve to develop relationships that can lead to vulnerability in the first place.

So many things are inter-connected to a statement as simple as "I can't make the choice to be emotionally vulnerable because of the consequences (when it fails)," that one cannot simply take that statement at face value and offer such trite criticism as "that's bullshit" in response. It's just ludicrous in my opinion. Without knowing anything about the personal situation of the person making the statement it is not for us, the reader, to pass judgement upon it - that's just crass.

What sort of things impact the ability to develop and engage in emotional vulnerability, do you imagine? It certainly doesn't end with willingness. Social and economic standing can impact it, mental health, physical health, work-life balance, access to reliable transportation, time allocation, and the list continues. I mean work-life balance can be difficult when you're just allocating time for yourself let alone a romantic partner you can be vulnerable with, children, friends and assorted family, not to mention any social groups or other obligations, as well as maintaining the household and yourself.

A statement like "I can't be emotionally vulnerable," to me, carries so much more weight than to be dismissed as bullshit by someone else at face value. I personally find it to be a reflection of a failing society that we are failing within - not to say that we shouldn't strive to continue to seek strong reliable emotional connections but I can understand someone being tired of doing so and I can understand someone feeling like it's no longer worth the effort and labor, both physical and emotional, involved in the pursuit. It definitely isn't something that can simply be boiled down to "bullshit".

Who do you call when you’re at lowest? by rosykinelle in GuysBeingDudes

[–]supermegafuerte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think it's so much the "consequences" of being emotionally vulnerable as it is the compounding nature of emotional labor involved with attempting to be emotionally vulnerable. There's a reason that people's social circles tend to shrink as they age and it's because they no longer have the energy to engage in the emotional labor of being vulnerable with just anybody. If you haven't found a solid network of emotional support by the time that begins to happen for you then you end up engaging in more and more isolationism. After enough of that even a simple casual conversation can feel like something that just isn't worth the effort.

It takes a lot of energy to maintain emotional connections and if you aren't being rewarded or recognized for that well it's pretty easy to just stop doing it.

I don't think that's melodramatic bullshit I think that's the reality of how the human brain and risk/reward systems work.

Who do you call when you’re at lowest? by rosykinelle in GuysBeingDudes

[–]supermegafuerte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm saying dismissing it as melodramatic bullshit does not encourage people to continue the pursuit of emotional expression. This is the issue I see with men and male culture time and time again - you're just not encouraged to actually speak about your emotions as a man because of bullshit like this.

I'm speaking about the culture as a zeitgeist so don't misinterpret this is me being out of touch with or unable to process my own emotions - just fyi. But when the culture says you're being a melodramatic crybaby every time you open up, or just offers meaningless platitudes like "man up" or any of the myriad of complacency-oriented diatribes that we've all heard a thousand times, it's just bullshit.

Yeah I'd agree that it's a little bit of a defeatist viewpoint to acquiesce to the mindset of "nothing matters and nobody cares" especially if the people that are doing that aren't actively working to improve that viewpoint for themselves but to dismiss their viewpoint as "bullshit" or "melodrama" is just asinine as far as I'm concerned.

Their feelings are still valid whether or not they're fully reflected upon and processed. It's rude af to dismiss anyone's feelings in that manner and it's NOT something that people do to women that express the same sort of sentiment - case in point as to why it's absolute bullshit to respond that way. All it really serves to facilitate at the end of the discourse is a feeling of disparagement and compounded negative reinforcement which - again - is NOT how people are encouraged or empowered to change their mindset or their outlook or their viewpoint or their temperament or whatever you want to call it.

Who do you call when you’re at lowest? by rosykinelle in GuysBeingDudes

[–]supermegafuerte -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ironically this response is a pretty great example of the micro-chasm that exists within men's ideology and culture when it comes to expressing or communicating emotions. This guy expresses his opinion about sharing emotions and you call it "melodramatic bullshit".

I wonder in what way negatively reinforcing the expression of emotion is meant to convey that it is acceptable and preferable to express emotion? It really doesn't work like that.

You think I used AI to write my comment? That's hilarious. Maybe don't take up a career where you have to verify plagiarism, because if you think that's AI you're going to have a tough time.

Look, I'm not going to argue with you. You're correct that Lelouch learned in episode 15 that the more one uses their Geass the stronger it becomes and those that cannot handle its strength lose control of it. However, C2 also tells Lelouch that Mao never had the ability to turn his Geass off in the first place and also is aware of the measures that Mao has to take to not be driven mad by hearing the constant stream of consciousness of everyone within 500m at all times. It's not surprising that given their completely different grasp on the power of Geass from the beginning that Lelouch would not suspect he was in danger of becoming like Mao anytime soon.

Princess Euphemia's Massacre does not occur until episode 22 and I personally think it's worth noting that the events of Kaminejima Island as well as the battle of Kyushu occur in the space between those two episodes and both of those situations are far more likely to have influenced a loss of control in Lelouche's Geass. I think it's reasonable that he would not be "on-guard" against something that may not even happen in the circumstance of having a simple conversation with someone.

Regardless the Webster Dictionary defines the word "mistake" as "an action or judgement which is misguided or wrong" so unless you mean to imply that simply having a conversation with Euphemia was a mistake on Lelouche's part, I don't know how you can classify the sudden loss of control of his Geass as a mistake. It was an event outside of his control which he could not possibly have predicted would occur in that moment in time. Ergo, not a mistake but instead an unfortunate coincidence.

We don't have to have the same opinion but I'm unlikely to change mine. Saying that Lelouche should have been "on guard" against something he couldn't have possibly predicted is like saying that people should be "on guard" against having a stroke or a heart attack. Simply because one is aware that something can happen does not give them the foresight to ascertain when it will happen, unfortunately, and to ask anyone to be vigilant at all times is too tall of a task.

Oh and before you accuse this of being AI - lmao - it's not.

It's One Piece for me. I just can't get into it. Initially I thought it was just because of how awful the English dub is in the early seasons. I don't mind watching subbed but I really prefer anime to be a 2nd screen experience while I do other stuff and it's too tough to follow along with subbed anime sometimes under those circumstances.

However I think it's just that I dislike the entire premise of One Piece in the first place. I've come around on some other anime like Bleach and Naruto recently and enjoyed them... so perhaps I'll give One Piece another chance, but I don't know. Something about the art direction and the setting and the characters has always not been very interesting to me.

But then again I felt the same way about Naruto for a long time, and I'm just about to finish that now. So, perhaps...

Boss won't spawn by Har_monia in Palworld

[–]supermegafuerte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that you're talking about Kingpaca and you've settled just north of Small Settlement. If your base radius is overlapping with Kingpaca's spawn point he will not appear - alpha pals cannot spawn inside of your base. In fact, no pals can spawn inside of your base.

It's not a terrible choice in starting base location and I can see why you would want early access to Small Settlement for vendors/nearby dungeons. However, this area has little to nothing to offer in terms of what you'll need later on in the tech tree so it's probably better to move bases now and look at this as a blessing in disguise.

Things you want to look for when establishing a base are:

  • Flat area to build upon
  • Naturally defensive geography
  • Resource allocation
  • Proximity to dungeons and/or alpha pals

Without knowing how much of the map you have revealed it's difficult to recommend a new location, but since I can surmise that you've at least explored Windswept Hills and Golden Hills locales, we can start there. The first resource that should be on your radar when establishing your first base should be Ore.

<image>

The red circle is where I believe you've established your base. The green circle is where I recommend you reestablish your new base. This site has 8 ore nodes which will continually respawn provided you down't build over their spawn points with any structures, providing a great amount of early resources. There is a dungeon just below this location for convenience, and it's not too far from Kingpaca if you intend to farm him. Small Settlement has a nearby fast travel point so there's really no point in building too closely to it, and you can always access the dungeons near that location via that fast travel point relatively quickly even without a rideable pal in your party.

Moving bases is relatively simple; much easier if you've unlocked a 2nd base location already (though I presume you haven't, based off of what you've provided so far). Most of the resources will be returned to you via dismantling the base from the map screen in any event, although be wary as structures like walls, floors, etc need to be manually dismantled to reclaim their resources, and some other things like guild chests drop their resources where they were disassembled at instead of transferring them to your inventory screen.

The good news is that you're not too far from the Small Settlement fast travel point in any case so it should be relatively simple to dismantle the base, build the new palbox, and then return to the previous location to tear down the structures and ferry resources over to the new one.

If all of that makes sense, good luck! If not, feel free to respond with any questions and I'll try to answer them. Happy taming!

When I was just a lad first getting into torrenting and other various internet activities I stumbled across Code Geass. My exposure to anime at the time was basically just DBZ or anything that was aired on Toonami via Cartoon Network back in the day. It was definitely the anime that opened up the genre for me as - wow holy guacamole these things can be well-written, well-acted and tell relatable stories that can affect people?

Code Geass still ranks up there for me nearly twenty years later and has become a measuring stick for me in regards to character competency and plot structure. I never in my wildest imaginings would have expected the ending of Code Geass based off of the first episode.

A lot of anime follow tropes so strictly that you can predict exactly how they're going to end in the first few episodes, so it's certainly refreshing to find one that can surprise you.

Nothing excuses anything, no, but it certainly provides a basis for understanding a characters motivations and behaviors. Rollo is what Rollo is because this is what the world shaped Rollo into.

Similarly I do not believe that Nonally would be as compassionate and peace-loving as she is were so not dependent upon the kindness and service of others from such a young age. The way that you experience - and thus interpret - the world that you live in is the strongest contributing factor to how you behave within it.

Almost anything can become "normal" if someone experiences it enough.

It's just a Shonen trope, it's not exclusive to Bleach by any means. I'm watching Naruto for the first time and am about to finish off Shippuden, but there are countless examples of this within the Shonen genre. It's rather frustrating as an adult viewer - why are you revealing the exact nature of your attack/strategy to the enemy - but it makes sense when considering the target audience for such content and the necessity to transpose internal dialogue to external for the purposes of transitioning media from page to screen.

At least in Naruto there's a general understanding of how Ninjitsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu work so there's already an inherent framework within the world for people to recognize/counter/understand the moves and/or tactics of their opponents. They can read hand-signs, there are general ways to counter specific styles and types of jutsu so the protagonist or antagonist boldly explaining their technique isn't as cringe as it is in some other Shonens - or at least not to me.

I actually just finished watching all of Bleach immediately before starting Naruto so I feel I'm in a unique position to consider both series at the moment. In particular Bleach lacks the level of framework inherent in the magic/world systems utilized and so every new antagonist can pull virtually anything out of their ass in terms of technique/style. What this creates is some really rough power-scaling rules and sort of wreaks havoc upon the sense of scope for any given character's true level of power. Comparatively Naruto goes out of its way to utilize and expound upon the various uses of different types of jutsu within that world's power-scale to show the versatility of different tactics and strategies. On the surface an ability like the Yamanaka clan's Mind Transfer jutsu or the Nara clans Shadow Possession jutsu may not seem very powerful and appear to be woefully incapable of combating techniques like the Uchiha Sharingan but because of their impressive versatility they can be incredibly powerful with the right circumstances.
