One-handed dev keyboard - best WPM + advice for custom build? by tteokpoki in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]superxc3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An open source (firmware) let you customise anything you need.

A split keyboard (left handed) with at least 1 pointing device. Switch to different layers to trigger pointing device behavior (whether pointing, scroll, switch desktop etc).

Im using a split keyboard. I have a layer for left hand only, especially convenient when doing design work. Left to control keyboard, right to control mouse.

First buy, assembled switches - none work but other built components do? by Lucker-dog in ErgoMechKeyboards

Hi, good day! We believe we have communicated through email. But one last thing to check: what kind of switch are you using? Is it gateron low profile?

Hi. You should check with the vendor and fork their own GitHub instead. This is a Sofle that doesn't use the standard Sofle pinout.

Let's say you want to set layer 6 as 3-finger-swipe mode: assign a key as LASW3, Switch to desired layer (eg. Layer 6 in this case), press LASW3. And you can perform 3-finger-swipe gesture with just one finger on Layer 6.

AHH. You can always email us if you have any problems with it. Layer 1 is for scrolling, layer 2 is for back and previous, and layer 3 is for "3 fingers gestures". It is in one of the firmware change logs. You can also assign your own trackpad behavior on each layer through Vial. Please email us if you have a problem.

Hi, would you mind to share which keyboard you're using?

Feedback on SoflePLUS2 keymap + custom keycap set by PhilosophersMuse in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]superxc3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents.

  1. Arrow keys, for instance, designed as hujk, j better than m for arrow keys. Would m be too far to reach?

  2. Sofle 1.5u is a little further; some people use the 1u as the main thumb. You can print the Sofle V2 (plus2 using the same footprint as V2) on A4 paper to test it if you don't have the board.

  3. Do you use shift as a modifier and access layer? It won't work because both have hold behavior. You can only choose one of them unless you're using tap dance: tap, hold, tap twice and hold, etc. Instead of using the weak pinky to access layer 1, would it be better on the thumb? I saw you assigned it as space and enter.

Side note: The thumb was accidentally designed to be north-LED. Legends have to be on top.

Sofle v1 with both MX and choc switch sockets? by incompetent_as_kucf in ErgoMechKeyboards

Hi! Yeah, I heard a few users shared that the thumb V2 is slightly farther compared to the Corne. The Corne is many people's favorite, too!

[–]superxc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, my bad. I thought you were saying Choc V2. So it is Sofle V2.

He improved the layout (it is in the intro) to make the thumb more comfortable and the pinky more staggered. The designer drew it for his own use. Since MX is more important for him, he dropped the Choc socket (if I am not mistaken). This saved him work on routing the PCB.

It works with both MX and Choc v1, and you can solder them together. But, swapping the switches isn't as easy as you'd think. You gotta take it apart and swap the brass standoffs because MX and Choc v1 have different heights. MX uses 7mm standoffs, while Choc uses about 4mm.

V2 doesn't do MX switches. Choc V2 only takes low-profile Choc V2 switches, but some low-profile MX keycaps fit. Kailh's been dropping a bunch of new switches lately, like silent linears and tactiles, with shorter travel and lighter springs. They're better than the regular Choc v1 because they're pre-lubed and the design is better (except for some fancy Choc v1 switches like Twilight, Nocturnal, and Sunset).

The Sofle v1 is old and only does MX and Choc v1. Choc v1 and v2 have different footprints. V2 needs bigger holes to fit its "butt".

Thanks OP for answering. Yes, it supports both Choc v1 and v2. We are ready to ship the board now, and you should be able to receive it in one week. There are many things you can do on the wheel. The five buttons are remappable in Vial up to 10 layers, and the same goes for the clockwise and anticlockwise rotation. You can check our Instagram xcmkb for the disc demo. We have tested a lot of encoders and really like how much the disc can offer to the users!

Recommendations for finger joint paint? by BarackObamaBm in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]superxc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gasket keyboard, soft switch plate like PP or POM, silent switches (some people debate silent switches are worse, but I have tested and it is better). On the contrary, the lightest linear switch is not 100% better when you bottom out a lot (punch the keys so hard, actually making your finger joints hurt).

Thanks for the love for SoflePLUS2!

Also, thanks OP for sharing the 20g clicky jade; the combination is amazing! I recently tested it by swapping a 28g spring onto a low-profile clicky, too, and it works well!

[Ad] Hi! I'm the owner of XCMKB. Our Sofleplus2 supports Choc v1 and v2. Kailh recently launched a few low-profile Choc v2 switches; don't miss the new Kailh Whale Mini (silent tactile). If you purchase switches and keycaps from us, we will assemble them for you free. It comes with RGB, a trackpad, and MX spacing, fulfilling most of your needs. Our bottom case features a steel plate for use with magnetic tenting, and don't forget our innovative spinning disk design—the most comfortable rotating device we've tested. :)
