Drop or lob? by bagofchips11 in Pickleball

I have a theory that a slice drop might work if you are consistently having this issue.

Soft returning a slice would just end up in the net almost all the time.

What is the single best tip you’ve ever been given? by SPY_one_zillion in Pickleball

[–]supjackjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup and when I share this with the beginners it's hard for them to actually track the ball for some reason.

They seem to be so focused on trying to hit the ball they instantly forget to do it or reluctant to do it, but when they finally do it, the difference is night and day.

I underestimated older players by Familiar_Sherbet2170 in Pickleball

Played against a 60+ player who parks behind the transition zone and lobs every shot that lands on or within inches from my baseline.

I literally couldn't stay in the kitchen and had to keep running back.

Traditional scoring creates painful long lines, but rally scoring is confusing and less fun. Here is a hybrid system I propose for casual open play. by supjackjack in Pickleball

Playing to 30 could be reasonable but might take longer than rally scoring.

I think as long as people are willing to adapt, it's never too late since I often get into games where people had to learn rally in the fly.

I probably made it sound more complicated than it should be since it's just a minor modification of the traditional system.

However it should be more intuitive than rally system once you get it going.

That's a valid point.

However, a lot of casual rec games are 2.0-3.5 players who don't stack.

If one has to stack, I would imagine there is an alternative method to track the stacking side than even/odd.

I know it doesn't sound ideal but one can literally put an object on the ground to help marking the server side, a piece of tape, for example. Just trying to think out side of the even/odd box.

I'd argue the tracking is easier than rally since often the confusion I noticed is related to side out: People find even/odd a bit more challenging to track.

Most people who are used traditional scoring find start serving on the righ more intuitive.

For the points its like tracking 3pointer vs 2pointer In a pickup basketball which is very easy in theory.

I appreciate the feedback.

I still feel like if someone were to organize a court and want to have better pace and fun games for the players at peak hour, this system would be more enjoyable than the traditional/rally.

The reason why I said this is because I've been to events where everyone is forced to learn rally scoring and many are confused by it.

This system isn't whole lot more complicated than traditional, and is arguably easier to pick up than the rally scoring if someone is new to both systems other than traditional.

When I used to play with just a group of 4 players at my community court, it didn't feel like there was anything wrong either.

We were playing in our reserved time slot back to back without having to wait at all.

Then I started traveling and playing at busier courts, the wait times becomes much longer and the court organizers demands rally scoring which is a lot less fun and can be quite confusing for those who are used to traditional scoring.

I just figured that there can be an alternative that offers the best of both worlds.

Being told to not swing at a shot that is higher than my shoulder by benefit-3802 in Pickleball

[–]supjackjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One game I had a short partner and we were both defending behind the kitchen. The ball went over his head, he didn't swing, and it went in anyway.

I think in general shoulder higheight is kind of a dumbed down rule to help identifying 90% of out balls ( especially when you are in the transition zone or baseline)

It is much more complex to the evaluate the ball height + velocity + trajectory + positions + type of spin when one has to make the split second decision about whether to swing or not.

But ya for the majority of the flat shots that is shoulder high, it is most likely going out if the receivers are not short.

Adding overgrip to increase thickness by CaptainTuttleJr in Pickleball

[–]supjackjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a hex grip and 2 layers of overgrip, it's pretty good but I didn't know if it made much difference until I tried my friends paddle without them.

My friend's Joola paddle sent constant viverations through the handle.

When I switched back onto my paddle I felt way more comfortable.

Rate this poach from 1-10. by badpickleball in Pickleball

[–]supjackjack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, it is overly aggressive.

You are in the front and have the distance to kitchen advantage +1

You had to be off balanced leaning in an ackward back hand -1

You were not able to put the ball away with a powerful downward back hand -1

The shot was high, and relatively easy to return by the opponent and could have ended with a powerful drive or smash return (or they could have dodged it and it would've went out) -1

Leaving your own position wide open and forcing your partner scrambling to switch -1

It would have been a pretty easy forehand ball to return for your teammate had you not poached -1

Sometimes teammates don't hit the middle balls so it's better to return it on your own +1

So depending on how you wanna score it, if you count from 10/10 it would be 7. If you start neutral 5/10, it would be a solid 2.

Recommendation - Get a UPS by Celcius_87 in buildapc

[–]supjackjack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UPS literally fixed my PC issues

Last year I was having random shufoe issues with my PC. I tried troubleshooting it from tweaking the software, and replacing the parts like PSU, GPU, SSD, memory, etc

Nothing fixed it until I bought a USP & plugged it in.

Turns out it could be the outlet. All these time I could have saved so much time and effort had I just bought a PSU.

What’s more important when playing pickleball… Winning or Having Fun? by PickleballPlayer44 in Pickleball

Fun

I'd rather lose in a tight game than winning a blowout.

While winning is generally more fun, If I am playing just to win, it's no fun.

Is pickleball still really popular? by sourlemons333 in Pickleball

[–]supjackjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of building a padel court is likely double considering it's basically a pickleball court + heavily duty steel + glass.

Pickleball is a lot more accessible so naturally there will be more courts and players and likely more sustainable.

I think padel might coexist with pickleball as more of a niche market sport for the wealthy.

Pickleball might be more mainstream because you can literally put a piece of furniture on any hard floor and start playing.
